There should be no surprise---. When a nation is desperate to sell---the buyer always wants the best and gets the best.

In the 80's---the cobra gunship helis given to pakistan were more advanced than what the us army had at that time---.

36 would be a good number to reach. It would mirror the 36 Gripen E Brazil is going to operate as well as the 36 F-16s operated by the Chileans.

Argentina also has a very anti-military culture, which is why it has had low military spending for a long time now.

I'm still a bit iffy on that, as we've gotten no real confirmation of it.

We know that the Russians tested it in mid 2020, and mentioned it was meant for a single engine fighter, and the only single engine fighter that uses the rd93 engine is the JF-17. We still don't know if it is ready, or if Pakistan even wants to upgrade any time soon.

Some reports are quoting China has offered JF17 final price with weapons and training at 50milUSD. They have also offered long term loan hence the deal for the 12 aircraft to be 600mil USD. Hence 100-120 JF-17Block 3 could be acquired in 10 years and the cost would also significantly reduce from 50milUSD to 32-35milUSD. This offer is impossible to beat by any other other aircraft producer as transfer of technology with local manufacture would also increase exports in that region something the Argentinian's can easily afford and offset would also boost jobs and financial situation.

While true, its a little misleading as well. AH-1W were already entering service with the Marine Corps by the time PA got their AH-1S in the late 1980s. That was also the standard export model by that time (AH-1S and later F) so Pakistan was not unique into getting them. Not to mention that the US Army already had Apaches in service by then and had decided it would be the mainstay of their attack helicopter force. But the weapons we got in the mid to late 80s were more or less near top of the line for that era.
It was also the case in the 60s and 70s when we bought Mi-8s, Mirages, Sea Kings, and basically most of the new aircraft acquisitions.
AH-1Zs wouldve been the same had we been able to take their deliveries.
