Dr Ambedkar was against Article 370: Subramanian Swamy

NAGPUR: BJP leader SubramanianSwamy claimed on Saturday that Dr BRAmbedkar, father of Indian Constitution, and most of the Congressmen were against Article 370 and it was only Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who imposed it.
Addressing a gathering at Sai Sabhagraha, Swamy said, "Nehru's decision was illegal. He did not take permission from the cabinet. When the issue came up for discussion in constituent assembly, Dr Ambedkar was so disgusted that he did not take part in it."
The BJP leader said that India had no compulsion to carry on Nehru's illegal legacy and immediate steps should be taken to abrogate Article 370. "It is a misconception that it has to be passed by the Parliament. The Constitution clearly states it can be scrapped just by a notification issued by the President. Modi cabinet just needs to send a proposal to him," he said.
According to Swamy, India can get Aksai Chin back from China provided it does not act like a stooge of US. "If we take advantage of the rivalry between US and China, the latter will oblige us. However, our first priority should be to make China accept McMahon line," he said.
On Pakistan occupied Kashmir (Azad Kashmir), he said the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan was deteriorating and India will get a chance to get it back.
The BJP leader also stressed that India should implement uniform civil code (UCC). "If Muslims in US, Australia and France can accept it then why can't Indian Muslims do it. In Turkey and Tunisia, Muslims are not allowed to marry twice. Even in Pakistan a man has to take permission from a special tribunal to marry twice," he said.
Swamy asked if Muslims wanted a separate civil code then why did not they ask for a separate criminal code. "If a Muslim thief is caught he is sent to jail like a Hindu. His hands are not chopped off as per Sharia," he said.
