Could Myanmar and Bangladesh Go To War Over the Rohingya Crisis?

I seriously think we should go joint production of some sort of fighter plane with Turkey/Iran/Saudi/Bangladesh etc. Without a fighter plane of the capability of SU-30 or F-15 muslim world cant stand a chance against its adversaries. May be take Koreans with the project as they have the techs to support such project.

Well, I think only worthy partner could be Turkey or Iran. Even though we had some scuffle with Turkey a while back, it should be sorted out and we should discuss our interest. Turkey likes taking a lead role in Islamic world, something we can leverage and collude with them for military complexes. Learn simple things such as helicopters, UAVs, trainers etc. For ground forces, Iran is a good choice. They have done more than enough under sanctions and we should take that as motivation and expand our military ties with them.

The only good thing going for us is the initiatives in shipbuilding. We've already began making warships of our own and that is a positive sign. It has been possible because of our long history in this industry. However, for land and air that cant be said.

Iran even has a strong automobile industry. Loved them.

Yes, and that has happened due to strong leadership and unity within the country. This is something we lack and not too sure if we would see it anytime soon. That's a problem when you have cat-fighting women leading a nation.

You are correct on your sentiments. We need learn from history and change our alignment in international diplomacy. China is a friend and would probably remain so owing to the huge defence and economic ties. I encourage it to continue for our benefit. What we should learn from the Chinese is also their business mentality. We are an emotional nation who does not tend to use practical comprehension. We need to separate business, interest and diplomacy by its own means and seek for the best in each of these areas.

One thing I really appreciate of Pakistan is their ability do things on their own. Within all these hard years, wars, internal conflict, problematic neighbors.. they still managed to go nuclear and build up a decent defense industry. So credit is due where it is deserved. If they can do it, we can and we should too. We dont lack in anything - intellectual/knowledge workers, infrastructure, resources, talent.. but initiative. That should get sorted and the ruling elite should realize that we need to look after our own a$$. Making BD-08 and morters ain't gonna do jack. Invest in aeronautics, specialized complex for arms, defense R&D, develop cooperation program with other friendly countries etc. We need to gradually stop being dependent because its a costly string that anyone can pull to make us get back in line. We cannot afford that in a volatile days of world diplomacy.

@ Our Foreign Policy is "Dhuri mach na choi pani" means catching fish without touching water. On the other hand we have kept all the eggs in one basket and that is our so called beloved friend India. Time and again it has been proved that India cannot be our friend.

@ We don not have any cordial relation with Islamic countries rather we had tried to avoid them. Without realizing that our most of the foreign remittance comes from Middle East or Islamic World.

@ Next, our foreign exchange earning comes from Garments. But most of the times we are abusing USA.

@ For the last 42 years our Armed Forces had been build in line with Chinese help but suddenly we have ordered huge amount of armament from Russia.

@ We, our-self don not know who is our enemy ? Till, 1991/92 we never dreamed that even Myanmar can be our potential enemy.

@ Every day our Govt is abusing and blaming Pakistan for every thing. Even about the "Rohinga Issue" Govt is telling that Pakistan's IS is behind this crisis. Well, Pakistan is a strong Muslim military power they can very well sponsor the ARSA, it hardly matters.

India went to war in 1971 due to 10 million Bangladeshi refugees who kept pouring in for 9 months. Will BD go to war for 4 lakh?

I agree that there is a lot of cowardice in BD. This is reflected by some of the posters here on PDF who are acting like if BD has a choice whether to go to war or not. War has been imposed on BD and BD must fight.

It is not a coincidence that Modi was the only leader to go to Myanmar during the ethnic cleansing and give full support to the rogue regime. India is the other country that has labelled millions of their own citizens as illegal BD'shi but it has not identified them individually yet due to ethnic similarities. The two countries are acting in concert to deport their citizens for reasons of economics and/or demographics and see BD as a soft dumping ground. The way that BD is acting now, they are proving to be correct.

We have another BD poster(@Philia ) who forecasts decades of war with Myanmar if BD invades Arakan. If he would care to take a look at GDP figures, he would see that BD has 3.5 times the population and 3.5 times the GDP of Myanmar. Simply BD is an inherently more powerful country than Myanmar and can impose it's will on it if it chooses to. Myanmar would go bankrupt if it tried to keep up with BD defence spending if it was raised from current 1.5% to a hardly burdensome 2.0% of GDP.

Unless BD quickly sees the huge threat that both Myanmar and India pose to it's wellbeing, then BD deserves to remain forerver an impoverished and bullied country.

Bangladesh is stronger than Myanmar on its own theoretically I agree. However the equation is not Bangladesh vs Myanmar only. Rather both India and China have sided with Myanmar. In such a scenario Bangladesh stands no chance as only support from a country the size of the US would balance things. Such a move is not forthcoming. Pakistan, Turkey, Iran etc are not capable of turning the tide on such a balance of equation, hence why Myanmar is acting with such impunity. If Bangladesh had either China or India on its side then it could realistically have stood a chance in a conflict but that is not the case.

Nobody is asking bd to go to war over it. But what is required is to call a spade a spade. In international forum and domestic forum bd needs to appropriately acknowledge the ordeal of rohingya instead of calling them terrorist, extremist and drug peddler.

After UN general conference everything will be clear of the big nations stances about Rohingya issue who with whom.

India is actually irrelevant as BD needs India neither for arms or economic support.

China is the key player here. BD's Military is pretty much all Chinese and in a war would depend on Chinese resupply. I am not sure whether China would actually take sides here as China would just alienate a lot of Muslims for little gain.At the end of the day Myanmar needs China just as much as China needs Myanmar.

BD's 3.5x larger economy makes little difference as leadership is lacking.

Lots of women leader ships are upcoming in BD. Tarek zia's wife, one daughter & Koko's wife & two daughter.

These people need to shut up.
Mullahs cant fight a war neither have the courage for it. Big talks.

Not possible for them to make any mark. Hasina and Khaleda came to politics right after the assassination of Mujib and Zia when emotion ran high.
The only contender I think is Tareq Zia himself who has strong acceptance in Junior leaders.

Do not expect any help from the Rohingya Refugees Trump: Hasina

Rashid Riaz: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in an interview with Reuters, the US President Donald Trump knows about the refugees and does not expect any help from him. Asked by Reuters journalist Michel Nicolaus about his conversation with President Trump at the UN session, the Prime Minister said, for a few minutes the President trump stood and asked me how is Bangladesh? I told him, Bangladesh is good, the only problem is the refugees coming from Myanmar. However, President Trump did not comment on the refugees.

The Prime Minister said the situation of the trump is clear on the refugees, so it does not make any sense to seek help from the Rohingya Muslim refugees. The United States has already announced that they will not take any refugees. What do I expect from them and especially to President Trump? He already said his attitude, why should I ask him?

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh is not a rich country, but if we can feed 16 million people, we can feed more 500 or 7 lakh people.

But a senior White House official told Reuters he is not aware of the conversation between them, but there is a deep interest in the Rohingya issue. If presented to him, he must be involved in the matter.

After President Trump has come to power, in January, the US refugee program tried to suspend for 120 days. Then he banned the migrants from six Muslim countries to 90 days in their own country.

On Friday, President Trumpp said on Twitter that the United States should make such immigrant ban more elaborate, rigorous and specific. Although it would not be right to do it politically.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is staying in New York to attend the United Nations 72th General Assembly He will give a speech on Thursday next.

According to Reuters, there were about 10 million Rohingyas living in the Rakhine state till recent violence. Most of them have restrictions on movement. Myanmar did not even have their citizenship. Many of the local Buddhist communities consider them as illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Reuters, she wants to see more international pressure on Myanmar to take back Rohingyas.
Nobel laureate Suu Kyi is being criticized internationally for not taking initiative to stop violence in Myanmar. Myanmar National Security Advisor Thong Tun told Reuters yesterday, those who left the house, they have to make sure to return to Myanmar. But this is done through a process. For this we have to discuss.

Meanwhile, US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Heli urges the Myanmar government to stop military operations. He also urged the Rohingyas to return to Myanmar.

After participating in a meeting in New York organized by the United Kingdom on the Rohingya crisis, Heli said people (Rohingya) are still at risk of being attacked or killed. Normal people crossing the border crossing into Bangladesh.

reuters-hasina.jpg

Exactly this!

Say Bangladesh retaliates, and manages to shoot down a helicopter or somehow this thing escalates state to state. Bangladesh is literally alone. The 2 big players in the region have openly backed Myanmar. That scenario is troubling to the say the least. Also of note, most military hardware is Chinese sourced. Very easy for the Chinese to turn the screws to Bangladesh if need be.

This situation has unleashed a lot into the equation that the Bangladesh government needs to think about going forward.

All of a sudden, Myanmar seems to be an open enemy to us on the outside, despite either the strategic non recognition of that fact by the ruling Bangladesh government, or the lack of stomach for confrontation.

Either way, any future government of Bangladesh needs to take heed of the reactions of the various players in this current scenario.

A major reset in foreign policy and thinking needs to take place.

I remain extremely skeptical however, of any future good governance and derivation of lessons from this humiliation however.

Bangladesh will be betting on Turkey/Japan a lot in the future.
UK is the only country I have seen in my entire life stood by our side. I dont know why but they probably still remember Bengal as their gateway to the empire until 20th century.
