It's not whether Imran khan is right or wrong, whether he has performed well or he hasn't. Even this can be debated as he doesn't have any corruption charges on him, unlike the other thugs.

The way he is being forced out of the govt, the utter humiliation for all the 220 million residents of the 7th nuclear power in the world, it's too much to bear.

There is a tirade regarding the army keeping out of politics so they tried to minimize it(considering that many have relationships just through their daily lives or as family). But now here is a foreign sponsored manipulation of Pakistan’s destiny through people that Pakistanis accept themselves & bring into power which likely has caught this “establishment” off guard as well and maybe it is ok to assume that aren’t that savvy to know how to respond to it either?
Maybe they were panicking as well considering all the effort to depoliticize the military and intelligence services to now where it will have to interfere to keep this government in play?
Maybe they don’t want to disturb the system to whatever extent possible even as they fight internal pressure to do so?

After all, the Fauj is a disciplined organization but even then those that make it up are human beings with hopes, dreams and emotions which may be palpable at the mockery of Pakistan’s sovereignty through these corrupt animals?

So is it possible that the leadership not only has to manage this crisis without truly interfering but also has to calm its own rank & file down so the aspect of institution isn’t eroded?

Just like with the speed IHC, during the middle of the night found time to issue a ruling on IK asking him to not leak the paper - likewise Zardari was kept away from the mess, for precisely the reason to act as a sword over incumbents.


This process is neither new, nor surprising. It happens with every civilian gov in power, they are kept in check. And these steps are pretty much part of institutional memory after having repeated so many times.

That said, to suggest that Khaki folks were caught off guard would be to cut them a huge slack, specially when they are coming out strongly to put the right people in place to get this to happen. Do tell me who'd call Justice Athar at night to get this ruling out.. if not for you know who's.

But at the end, you get the leadership you deserve. So I totally am happy that forces will land in the same shit, they began with. And it will show, soon enough.

I don’t believe you and I disagree but maybe approach this differently. The establishment if whatever it is also believes in self preservation. So if its interests include a threat from Zardari of starting an insurgency and/or exposing the corruption in cahoots with establishment in Sindh they will capitulate.
My contention is that we assume them to be smart but they aren’t really more than you or me. They are average Pakistanis with the same selfish characteristics that take over when their primary interests(which isn’t Pakistan as much as any Pakistani likes to claim) is in danger.
So instead of thinking of them as some all powerful powerhouse just because they have troops and tanks is a folly. No one in their right mind see troops or tanks as a tactic against their own people even if it is Zardari so what is left is dirty maneuvering which is a much more even playing field than is assumed.

When I say off guard it is that IK mismanaged this situation and in general the establishment has been trying to keep its shoes shined in front of the country as neutral. So whatever plan they had to try and tackle this crisis from behind the scenes as failed and now they are in for their skin and not trying for IK or otherwise.

The institutional memory is self preservation - the lifestyle and the privileges in terms of money making should never be questioned by the public and the institution will continue as it is.
