[Former post #3 from last year comparing U.S., China, and Russia.]

Let me try to persuade some members that the world changes over time. Does an anti-ship ballistic missile that travels at Mach 10 before impact qualify as ground-breaking world-class weapon technology?

"US panic at China's new ship killer"

The institute's report said the Dong Feng missile was thought to have a range of about 2000 kilometres and a speed of Mach 10: "The size of the missile enables it to carry a warhead big enough to inflict significant damage on a large vessel, providing the Chinese the capability of destroying a US supercarrier in one strike."

The result, 13 years later, is the Dong Feng 21. "It's a technological leap that's never [before] been made," says Schriver, now the head of a non-partisan research body, Project 2049 Institute, and a founding partner of the consulting firm Armitage International.

"The Russians couldn't do it. If it works, it will have the range of a ballistic missile and the accuracy of a cruise missile.

"The Chinese would have the ability to hold our carriers at a great distance - it almost makes the aircraft carriers obsolete.

"What did we do in 1996? We sent carriers. What are the Chinese doing? Taking the carriers out of the equation." He thinks it prudent to expect such missiles to be operating within a couple of years.

RAHUL INDIAN, you ruined one of my threads last year and you're trolling again. How about going over to the Indian sub-forum and making as many anti-China threads as you like?

I have a feeling that ptldM3 will take this opportunity and disappear on me. I will never get to hear about Russia's impressive industrial and technological capability and the explanation for six consecutive 3M54E1 Klub missile test failures.

do whatever u want...but spare the members ur logic like below,

China can take on japan..why
coz China got missiles(sorry must add number of them..)...
but Russia cant take on Japan...coz Russia not got missiles....:rofl:

:rofl::rofl:
u r one fully little brat....
ooh so many wrong perceptions u have...keep them...India is equal to China....

:rofl:In this world, no country hear you and care you in the world event. The only thing we wanna do is get raw metiral and send product to india to earn money. Your country is just a pasture, just for us to get milk(money). Hope this will help you.

god u chinese are so over confident and indulge in day dreaming and exaggerate things like no one in this world....

That's not what I said. The conventional military powers and economies between China and Japan are fairly close. Russia does not match up with its inferior weapons (e.g. six consecutive Klub missile test failures, 15-year Bulava SLBM failure, etc.) or tiny economy.

Based on a non-competitive conventional military (e.g. see "technical inferiority" against Georgia) and tiny economy, we never reach the question of whether Russia's conventional missile force may play a balancing role.

I just want you to move over to the Indian sub-forum and rant about China as much as you want. You have cheated me of an opportunity to learn more about ptldM3's views about mighty Russia. Can't you troll in some other thread and stop interrupting a serious discussion that I'm having with another member? You always say the same things and they're inane. Go away! SHOO! SHOO!

You are very funny.:lol:And your country has been paranoid about china for 48years.

BEIJING: India's paranoid attitude towards Chinese investment, including import of telecom equipment made by Huawei Technologies, will damage the India-China relationship and dissipate the Copenhagen spirit of friendship that evolved during the climate change conference last year, environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh said on Saturday.

"If we continue to be paranoid about Chinese investment in India, we are not going to be able to derive the full benefits of the Copenhagen spirit," Ramesh told Indian journalists after attending a meeting of environment ministers from across the globe. "The point is that Huawei is creating assets in India, it is hiring Indian professionals, over 80% of its employees are Indians," he said.

Ramesh made these remarks in the face of resistance from the home ministry and the security establishment, who feel that the use of Huawei-manufactured equipment in India's telecommunications sector will make the country vulnerable to security challenges.
"Both the PM and the NSA were gung-ho about preserving the Copenhagen spirit of friendship with China, but it was the home ministry that put up roadblocks with its suspicious attitude," he said. "What we preach to Pakistan and Sri Lanka, we are not ready to accept the logic of the same argument when it comes to buying from China," Ramesh said while referring to New Delhi's insistence that Islamabad and Colombo increase their purchases from India.

Consider yourself lucky ptldM3. I am really interested in hearing your responses to all of the points that I have raised regarding Russia's six-consecutive Klub cruise missile failures, endless 15-year flagship Bulava SLBM development, "technical inferiority" against tiny Georgia, etc. Unfortunately, I have a repeat-offender and crazed Indian who refuses to rant somewhere else.

When an Indian troll is hell-bent on ruining other people's discussion regarding a comparison of Russian and Japanese conventional forces, there is not much that I can do. I hate Indian trolls. They ruin it for everyone else. I'm sure that everyone wanted to hear ptldM3's defense of Russia's mighty, if greatly flawed, military.

ptldM3, you forgot to read post #17 (reproduced below):

In my opinion, combat-proven advanced fourth-generation U.S. fighters are superior to Russian fighters that are comparable only on paper. Are you claiming that you think Russia will win a conventional war over the Northern Territories/Kuril Islands against technologically-advanced Japan (e.g. $5.1 trillion-dollar GDP), which also possesses an economy four times larger than Russia (e.g. $1.2 trillion)?

The Russian military will be flying planes built by a decrepit military-industrial-complex. See fifth article below.

Russian Air Force - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Air Force continues to suffer from a lack of resources for pilot training. In the 1990s Russian pilots achieved approximately 10% of the flight hours of the United States Air Force. The 2007 edition of the IISS Military Balance listed pilots of tactical aviation flying 20–25 hours a year, 61st Air Army pilots (former Military Transport Aviation), 60 hours a year, and Army Aviation under VVS control 55 hours a year.[9]
...
On 5 June 2009, the Chief of the General Staff, Nikolai Makarov said of the Russian Air Force that "They can run bombing missions only in daytime with the sun shining, but they miss their targets anyway".[19] Maj. Gen. Pavel Androsov said that Russia's long-range bombers would be upgraded in 2009 with the aim of being able to hit within 20 meters of their targets.[20]

In February 2009, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that 200 of the 291 MiG-29s currently in service across all Russian air arms were unsafe and would have to be permanently grounded.[21] This action would remove from service about a third of Russia's total fighter force, some 650 aircraft."

"Weak Russian Military Suggestive of Nuclear First Strike Doctrine
Posted by Matt in December 27th, 2009

The bottom line is that Russia reserves the right to launch a nuclear preemptive strike to protect itself and its allies.

Russia’s military is falling apart, therefore, it’s becoming clear that Russia will increasingly rely on its nuclear weapons for protection. This will include threats and/or preemptive nuclear strikes.

Therefore, Russia now announced its right to use nuclear weapons not only in case of aggression against itself, but also as a “response to a threat of using (or usage) against itself and (or) its allies of nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction, as well as a response to the aggression with regular weapons in the situations critical for the Russian Federation."

As Its Military Industry Withers, Russia Looks to Buy Arms Abroad

"As Its Military Industry Withers, Russia Looks to Buy Arms Abroad

MOSCOW -- Ask a Russian what the country makes well, and the answer, more often than not, will be the Kalashnikov rifle.
Russian-made cars may be rickety, and its passenger airplanes such fuel-guzzlers that even the country's flag carrier, AeRoflot, has switched to a mostly Western fleet. But Russians could always point with pride to the fearsome reputation of their weapons -- the Kalashnikov and the MIG and Sukhoi fighter jets.
Indeed, until recently, Russia's military exports were second in volume only to the United States.
But in today's Russia, the $40 billion military equipment industry is withering alongside civilian manufacturing.
Once-legendary Russian weapons are suffering embarrassing quality-control problems. Algeria, for example, recently returned a shipment of MIG jets because of defects.
An aircraft carrier refurbishment for India is four years late and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget.
In perhaps the most poignant sign of trouble, Russia's own military is now voting with its rubles: Moscow is in talks with France to buy four French amphibious assault ships.
If a deal is struck, it would be Russia's most significant acquisition of foreign weapons since World War II.
The purchase of Mistral-class ships would be ''the most salient example of the deficiencies in the Russian defense industry,'' said Dmitri Trenin, a military analyst at the Carnegie Moscow Center, a policy research organization."

There are major problems in at least five critical areas concerning Russian military-industrial capability and the manufacture of important weapons.

1) Cruise missiles - Six consecutive Klub missile-test failures.

2) Ballistic missiles - 15-year Bulava SLBM program plagued by failures with no clue on how to fix them.

3) Combat aircrafts - "In February 2009, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that 200 of the 291 MiG-29s currently in service across all Russian air arms were unsafe and would have to be permanently grounded.[21] This action would remove from service about a third of Russia's total fighter force, some 650 aircraft."

4) Shipbuilding - "The purchase of Mistral-class ships would be ''the most salient example of the deficiencies in the Russian defense industry,'' said Dmitri Trenin, a military analyst at the Carnegie Moscow Center, a policy research organization."

5) Submarines - The quality of the engines for Russian Kilo submarines is suspect.

"Russian submarine towed to port after engine malfunction

01:4223/11/2009

MOSCOW, November 23 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian diesel-electric submarine from the Black Sea Fleet is being towed to the port of Novorossiisk after suffering an engine malfunction during sea drills, a Black Sea Fleet official said.

The Alrosa, a Kilo class diesel submarine, was on a training exercise in the Black Sea on Saturday when it reportedly experienced some problems with its jet propulsion system.

"The submarine is being towed in a surfaced position to the port of Novorossiisk. Its arrival is expected on Monday. Experts will establish the cause of the malfunction there," the source said.

A Russian Navy spokesman earlier said the situation on the submarine was under control and there was no danger to the crew.

He also said the submarine would continue the drills after the problem is fixed.

Alrosa, commissioned in 1990, is the only submarine in active service with the Black Sea Fleet. It is based at a Russian naval base in Sevastopol on Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula."
