You always miss in time counter ... you think we has only SAM-2 of 1970s to handle with nowaday aircraft ?
US capability of 1970s are most advanced at that time, the technology gap between Vietnam and US at that time much bigger than nowaday Vietnam and China . That's the properly conclusion

Your current gap with China is a lot of bigger than your gap with USA during the Vietnam War.

Your current capability doesn't progress that much by yourself, since you can buy Su-27 from Russia, but your certainly can't produce it by yourself.

With the time passed, all great nations have progressed tremendously with their technological capability, while those small nations still remain same as decades before.

when you build some military airports near the Russia/Mongolia/India border vs China ...
you can not only using that airport to attack Vietnam, but also have to build the air defense, aircrafts, ... to protect it from related countries strike ...
So your large quantity of airports, aircrafts, even army, artilery, tanks ... only means more trouble you must face, not means you could use the large to dominate a well-protected small country with enough forces ...

We are not at the forefront in terms of making the best engines and some other components but no one except some stupid and ignorant fanboys can deny our potential of making planes which can defend our territories

the vietcongs may buy jet fighters but they can NEVER buy the best models. Russia or USA or anyone WILL NOT sell their best fighter-jets to you. They are doing business! They are not your buddies!

Also the price factor.You can break your banks to buy just a squadron and then to face endless nightmares of paying rip-off prices for spare parts
; PLUS possible embargo, while on equivalent terms we save money, gaining experience at the same time by making our own jets and investment in R and D!
