China requires censoring all computers

it's just a software ,offering us a choice to filter the pornographic imformation .you don't have this kind of software in india ?it's odd, indian might probably kill a young girl if she lost her virgin before getting married。 since you know nothing about software, let me tell you a secret , sofeware can be deleted anytime.....

You should learn something about this world before telling an Indian what a software is!!

U r one biased crackpot aren't you?:tsk:

No. It is just an attempt to divert the thread. More inflammatory the post is, less people notice that it is off topic :-)
The thread is about Censorship in China and Censorship in general. Not an India-Pak-China comparison.

how do you know the existence of this 30000 opinion makers, can you provide some evidence,or you are working for our "evil "government?30000 opinion makers?wow ,what a accurate number, you called the roll one by one。sorry i disappointed you ,if i am working for my government to make the opinion on a foreign forum ,my english will be better than this

The censorship story has been confirmed by China itself

The 30,000 figure is from a variety of sources
New York times gave the figure of 30,000 in the story.
Time says the same China's Web Watchers - TIME
Another Chinese publication says the same (I think they are not china based though)

If it can not be turn off, it will suck, since millions will not be able to watch **** online anymore. I see an uprising coming.

Apparently the software rule is not applicable in Hong Kong.

Anyway, the writers of the software have claimed it can be turned off, while others say that there is no way to be sure it is actually off.

I spend most of time in Shanghai, so this is applicable to me.

It is actually more dangerous to filter pornographic context than blocking a few political informations against the government, as Chinese netizens care much more about the former.

It's the same everywhere I think :-) .

I am totally confused about China again. You can get away with posting that comment, but they are talking about installing spy ware on each computer? I am taking a flight out to Shanghai at the next opportunity - I'll see the place and hopefully find out what censorship really looks like.

India tried blocking Pakistani newspapers during the Kargil war. It was trivial to get through the block and access Dawn. My IP should have been easily traceable, but no one seemed to care. That's the only experience with govt. censorship I have.

If there's one thing I hate about the Communist Party, it's how they are ultra-sensitive control freaks.

I am not surprised at all that you are confused for the same reason that Chinese government sometimes wants to censor some stuff. Bias, hostility from others.

You are the smart one to exam everything yourself though. If you indeed come to Shanghai, let me know, I will definitely buy you a drink and talk about everything. For now if you like you can go on to Chinadaily Forum to see yourself. Remember that it is one of the major government owned media outlet. You will be surprised that what kind of stuff people can talk about there. So much for so call censorship. I don't deny that censorship exists, but it is only applicable to certain sensitive issues. Also government don't seem to care people talk about that outside of their controlled domains such as this one.

P.S The Chinadaily forum I gave to you is in English, so you will not have any problem reading it. Also you can find quite few people from India there as well.

Thanks. I'll start reading that!

I had a chance last year to visit either Russia or China. And (fortunately or unfortunately) I picked Russia - that place was eye-opening. Moscow is like a bigger, badder New York. I am ready to be surprised again when I get to China. I have a few friends in Shanghai and one in Beijing. So I should get there in a year or so.

How was Moscow? Since it is rated most expensive city in the world. I am always curious.

I am confident that you will be more surprised when you get to Shanghai. It is more than meets the eyes. Hehe....

This post may be offtopic, but hopefully will illustrate the difference between what one hears and what one sees.

The picture you get from US is that it is authoritarian and cut-throat. You also tend to think of the place as something rapidly changing from the USSR times. I thought of it as something similar to a Eastern European capital (I had been to Romania before).

Once you get there you see that it is much bigger than you expected (and with huge cars). The people went about their life almost like in New York - people not smiling, subways are the mode of transport etc.

I could not see authoritarianism but there was huge amount of corruption. That's something I am used to from India, though. I also got stopped by cops while wandering about. I was told it was racism, but from more detailed conversations with locals it was more due to a fear of Chechens. There were a lot of Africans who went by untroubled.

On the other hand, the amount of economic progress they made in 10 years is amazing. They were selling securitized products (CDO like stuff) in an investment bank I went to. India or China do not even have public company bond market, let alone CDO's.

Turns out what gets called Authoritarianism was old-fashioned corruption by govt. officials and what was called racism was just fear of terrorists etc.
Not a place I'd take another vacation to, though - too cold and no one spoke English. My Russian is barely passable and it takes me 5 minutes to read a Cyrillic road sign- rules out driving around.

I am sure you will have better experience in China. At least in Shanghai or any other major cities, corruptions are to its minimum, and I am sure you won't be harassed by the police until you really do something. Police here is relatively easy and relaxed especially you are a foreigner. I got away with many traffic violations including DUI just with a US or HK driving licenses. Technically I am still a Chinese citizen as for all the people hold HKSAR passports. You won't believe what kind of stuff my Americans friends got away with.

Language might be a problem, but since there is a sizable foreigner community here in Shanghai, I guess you can get by depends on where you go to.

As for CDOs, I think China already have them.

I can tell you about my experience today.

I and someone had a really sensible debate going in the forum I gave to you. But then the mods went on a deleting frenzy. A lot of our posts got deleted. The reason for this censor frenzy is because someone named power2people started threads like "Rise up all the Chinese people who are repressed" and "Free Tibet". One of our debate was in one of the threads. Also I guess discussing the ineffectiveness of the mods censorship really did not helped our cause either.
