MULTAN/KHANEWAL, Nov 30: As Mumbai struggles to return to normalcy in the wake of terrorist attacks, a Pakistani village named Faridkot is being mentioned in the Indian media as the place of origin of the lone gunman arrested by Indian commandos. He has been identified as Ajmal Amir Kasab.

The media, however, conveniently avoids mentioning that there is also a town with the same name in the Indian state of Punjab.

In Pakistan, there are several villages named Faridkot, but three of them — one each in Khanewal, Pakpattan and Okara — attracted the attention of intelligence agencies and media to ‘prove’ that the terrorist was a Pakistani.

Faridkot in Khanewal, also known as Chak No 90/10-R, is a hamlet on the Jahanian Road, 53km from Multan and has a population of 5,000. This village has one primary school and two mosques — one managed by Barelvis and the other by Shias — and is known for sectarian harmony.

Interestingly, the Indian media is not even sure whether the alleged attacker is named Ajmal Amir Kamal, Muhammad Ajmal, Muhammad Amin Kasab, Azam Amir Kasav or Azam Amir Kasab.

People of this village said there were four people named Ajmal in the village — the one whose name also included Kamal had died 15 years ago. The numberdar of the village, Haqnawaz Baloch, told Dawn that Kamal was son of Muhammad Shafi. Another man named Ajmal had shifted to Ahmedpur East several years ago. The third Ajmal worked in a tea processing factory and the fourth one was a labourer, he said.

He said there was no person by the name of Amin or Azam and did not know what ‘Kasab’ or ‘Kasav’ meant. He said people of the village were peaceful and no one from Faridkot had visited India.

Khanewal police raided Faridkot twice over the past two days to gather details about the alleged terrorist. “We thoroughly checked the village record when Indian media started saying someone from this village was involved in the (Mumbai) attack. The hype is misplaced,” said District Police Officer Kamran Khan. He said police had done the checking on their own, without any instruction from the government.

According to BBCUrdu.com, another village named Faridkot is near Pakpattan. It has a population of 2,000 and most of them are farmers.

Residents say they do not know anyone by the name of Ajmal or Akmal and no one from the village has links with jihadi or other banned outfits.

Another Faridkot is a remote village in Deepalpur tehsil in Okara district.

The Economic Times, an Indian paper, claimed that Azam Amir Kasav, 21, belonged to this village and “speaks fluent English”.

“We can tell you who this man is and how he has become the vital link for investigating agencies to crack the terror plot,” the paper says.

I don't think there is going to be a big difference in Hindi or Urdu being spoken with a Punjabi accents.

They would both use "bolchal ki jaban" and not the pure version and that is practically the same in both countries.

STRAIGHT TALK: Sharad Pawar accepts the attacks have dented the credibility of the government.

Nationalist Congress Party chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has accepted that security establishments in the country were totally unprepared to handle an attack like the one in Mumbai. He said that except the Indian Army and the National Security Guards, no one else is prepared to handle such a concerted attack. Pawar said, "It is true that even Mumbai Police got some sophisticated equipment but not (in) that number. Here those who came - they came with number one rigorous training for number of months, number two commitment, number three excellent equipment"

"(We were) absolutely unprepared and even today we are not well prepared to fight this kind of terror except for Indian Army and NSG. Any state government's police force is not very well equipped, and they are not prepared. They are capable, but they have to be trained and equipped."

On being asked that why has India failed to learned any lessons from past terror attacks, by not strengthening coastal security for instance - a loophole that was used by terrorists to bring in explosives, in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts also, he sought to make an important distinction between the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and those in 1993.

He said, "In 1993 those who were responsible - they were from Mumbai, they were local people, they were from around Mumbai, they were Indians. But here (in 2008) that is not the case...here these 10 Johnnies who were involved were all from Pakistan."

He also accepted that the attacks are likely to dent the credibility of the government.

NEW DELHI, Nov 30: Pro-Indian Kashmiri leader Farooq Abdullah has said the Indian government should stop blaming Pakistan for the Mumbai bloodbath.

He told The Tribune daily in Jammu that instead of wasting time on a blame game, Pakistan and India should launch joint efforts to combat terrorism because New Delhi alone could not eliminate it.

“We must make a combined effort to deal with the problem and at the same time help the Pakistan government and its people to come out of the morass of terrorism,” he said.

“Islamabad (itself) is trying to deal with the problem, so linking the Pakistan government with the Mumbai attack is not wise on our part,” he added.—APP

Dawood is an Indian criminal, Masood committed crimes against India and was in Indian prison before he was exchanged for the hostages.

They are both international terrorists that are wanted in India for crimes against India. So it seems you are supporting terrorists here.

You did send so many Pakistani terrorists to Gitmo. Dawood is an Indian. Why are you hosting him? Just because he is a terrorist?

Why L K Advani is most wanted in Pakistan

NEW DELHI: Close on heels of the December 2001 attack on the Parliament, a Pakistani newspaper claimed officials in Karachi were reviewing charges
against former Deputy PM , LK Advani's alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate Mohammed Ali Jinnah, shortly after the Partition in 1947.

The news report quoted that the charges were originally drawn up against 18 Hindu fundamentalists in Pakistan in September 1947 in connection with an alleged plot to kill Mohammed Ali Jinnah and other Pakistani leaders.

Most of them managed to evade arrest, including Mr Advani.

The then India's Minister of State, Home ID Swami swiftly retorted back saying that the Pakistani newspaper reports were an act of retaliation by Pakistan for the list of 20 wanted people Delhi handed over to Islamabad immediately after the wake of attack on the Indian parliament.

ID Swami added that if the Pakistani authorities took action over the affair, it would expose them as revenge seekers leaving enough scope in the minds of doubting Thomases, questioning critics and even the fence sitters that there could be an element of truth in the Pakistani news reports.

Senior officials of the Sindh High Court in Karachi confirmed that they were reviewing charges against Advani over his alleged involvement in a plot to kill Pakistan's founding father, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, soon after the partition quotes a Pakistani website.

A senior court official has been quoted saying to the AFP that indeed the case does exist.
However the Pakistani government has refused to confirm reports it would demand his extradition.


Though Advani's hawkish stand has been softened from the time he held the charge of home affairs during the previous NDA regime, his rivals point out that it is mere political posturing.

Advani has, in a recently televised interview, held Gen.Pervez Musharraf singularly responsible for the breakdown of talks at Agra.

At the same time, he hoped that the Pakistani President would find a solution to the problem of Kashmir.

LK Advani and his family hail from Karachi and left Pakistan in 1957. His family originates from Karachi, although they left Pakistan for India in 1957.

What remains muddy is if Advani was alleged to have masterminded the assassination of Jinnah, how did he avoid questioning from the authorities for ten long years before he left for India.

Though what is clear is that six people were convicted in the case and were extradited to India in 1948, but 12 absconded, including LK Advani.

Highly unlikely - the guy was extremely close to Musharraf and AFAIK supported his policies of raaprochement with India.

At this point quite frankly the Indian media has gone bonkers, with all the contradictory information being reported from 'reliable intelligence sources'.

Any more 'news flash's', especially like these, need to come with valid links and sources, otherwise I can see this thread going down the tubes.
