Captured CST Terrorist

This should not come as a surprise:

Ex-soldier trained terrorists, says Kasab
1 Dec 2008, 0226 hrs IST, S Ahmed Ali, TNN

MUMBAI: "There were 24 of us who took one-year training in camps organised by Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) at Mansera and Muzzarafabad in Punjab province of Pakistan. Ten of us were later handpicked for the Mumbai operation,'' said Ajmal Amir Kasab during interrogations.
According to sources, Kasab, 21, the only terrorist arrested by the Mumbai police, told his interrogators that Abdul Rahman, an ex-soldier popularly called Chacha, had given them training.
The sources said Kasab explained that the training was divided into seven phases. "He said the first phase was of ‘very hard physical training’ of three months which included running 10 to 15 km. The next three months were for marine training like swimming, surfing, diving and boating in high seas. The rest included arms and ammunition training,'' said a source.
After the training was over, they were sent to Mumbai for a "short internship'', Kasab is believed to have told the cops. This was the period when the accused did the reccee of the city and even went to the five star hotels (Taj and Oberoi), the sources said.
Sources said the Mumbai operation plot was planned in Karachi some six months ago. Joint commissioner of police (crime) Rakesh Maria said,"We are closely working with the all the central agencies who have earlier handled such situations.''
In a fresh development in the investigations, the Mumbai police called up their Gujarat counterparts to enquire about whether the terrorists used Amar Narayan, the skipper of the fishing trawler used by them, as a mole. Narayan was detained by Pakistan for three months for illegally entering into the Pak waters.
Police are now taking the help of top technical experts to break into the details of the GPS system and the satellite phone which they recovered from a terrorist at the Taj hotel. This GPS helped them to navigate the sea route from Karachi to Mumbai via Porbander, cops said.

The police have launched a manhunt for the few locals who have given the terrorists logistic support in the operation.

Of course the individuals are out of India's reach, Pakistan is not going to let India into her territory, but that's not the point - I am referring to these individuals now going underground and also being out of Pakistan's reach in the Tribal areas etc. Which almost eliminates any chance of Pakistan being able to deliver these people given that it is struggling to control parts of FATA.

The best we would be able to hope for in that situation is some US drone strike eventually killing them ala Rashid Rauf, but who knows when actionable intel on them would be obtained.

Comparing this with 911 isn't a good example. In the end the US had to invade a country to try and get the people it wanted, and still hasn't captured them because they went underground.

The professional thing to do would have been to keep the identities under wraps until evidence was shared and Pakistani law enforcement could act to detain the suspects. So, if this evidence is true, India has been busy 'point scoring' and inflaming sentiment (perhaps to ward of communal tension at home) while reducing the chances of actually grabbing these guys.

Who knows, if the allegations are true, perhaps these individuals will be cocky enough to stay put, and Pakistani LEA's can still pick them up, but my guess is that at this point they are en route to the Waziristan's.

I agree. I think the fact that this did not happen points to a trust deficit.

Mumbai Terror Suspect's Arrest Captured on Video

FOX News sister network Sky News has obtained exclusive footage of the moment security services captured the man said to be the only surviving terrorist behind the Mumbai attacks.

The footage, which was captured on a mobile phone, shows a furious crowd beating the alleged terrorist, Ajmal Qasab, before he is taken away.

It allegedly shows him with other gunmen on Marine Drive, a few streets away from the train station where the group had just carried out a killing spree.

Fleeing the scene of the carnage, the gunmen were forced to stop because the tyres of their getaway car had blown out.

Within seconds, they were surrounded by unarmed police.

At least 172 people were killed and hundreds more hurt when 10 militants armed with automatic weapons and grenades attacked sites across the Indian city last week.

Sky reporter Ashish Joshi, in Mumbai, said: "Officers told them to come out of the car with their hands up. They did, but Qasab had a gun between his legs which he then brought out and shot three officers dead.

"It was seen by passers-by who shouted 'Look, look, they're killing police officers' and then suddenly from every direction a mob gathered.

"They over-powered him and started beating and attacking him. Then another police unit arrived and he was arrested."

A senior Indian police officer said Qasab - who has been referred to by different names in various reports - later told interrogators he belonged to a Pakistani militant group with links to the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.

Joint police commissioner Rakesh Maria said Qasab admitted he had been trained at a Lashkar-e-Taiba camp in Pakistan.

The group has long been seen as a creation of the Pakistani intelligence service to help fight India in Kashmir.

It was banned in Pakistan in 2002 after pressure from the U.S., a year after Washington and Britain listed it a terrorist group.

The bloody attacks in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) have sparked fears of a confrontation between the two countries, both of which have nuclear weapons.

Great. I am in a way happy that the public got a chance to do some "haath sekna" over the terrorist.

Amazing stroke of luck to get a terrorist captured this way.

Wow...that photographer had some guts man - he could have simply fled for his life.

Instead, he kept following them and taking pictures - that's really courageous.

Courageous, yes. But in a way, inevitable.

Now with almost everyone carrying a video mobile all the time, it is almost impossible for anything of significance to occur in public and no one recording it. There may well be some other recordings of the same event that may surface soon.

The question is how did they get so close to him and if I understand the vid properly the guy kneeling at the end surrounded by police is the terrorist.

Breaking News - India has handed over hard evidence to Pakistan regarding Dawood Ibrahim's involvement to the Pakistani High-Commission.

Now lets wait and watch.

In the meantime .....

Here is some more footage of the CST attack -

There were reports that the terrorist were from Britain too but I saw no such reaction from British.

The British connection turned out to be false. Up to 7 of the terrorists were British they were saying initially! All wrong.

Then he was from Pakistan.

Now he's from Bangladesh. I think they're twisting his knee caps too much.
