Blast from the past. When Pakistani soldiers stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II Coronation in 1953

England’s Monarchy is the second oldest, dating back to the Middle Ages. Its home is Buckingham Palace. The changing of the guards for the reigning monarchy has always been a colorful event that is full of ceremony that has been maintained over the ages.

Back in 1953, after the creation of Pakistan in 1947, a contingent of Pakistani soldiers took over guard duty at Buckingham Palace for the Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation that took place on June 2 of 1953. The Changing of the guard ceremony took place prior to that.

A young Pakistani Army was since then classified as capable and strong because such a responsibility fell on their soldier on such a big day for English Royalty.

The army was NOT young. The name "Pakistan" was young. Regiments are organic to a army. They are the building blocks of any army. Frontier Regiments or Punjab Regiments were at least century old in 1953.

These regiments set up in 1850s from what is now Pakistan a fact obvious in their names like Baloch, Frontier or Punjab regiments were configured in the British Raj army but after 1947 they were reconfigured and titled "Pakistan Army".

None of his own doing as such, it was the doing of Liaqat ali Khan who embraced the United States and made Pakistan the "Basiton of the free world" in Asia. We were the poster boys for the US alliances in the region.. the ticker tape parade for him in the US was because Pakistan was to fight the Soviets. It has zilch to do with the man who abandoned his troops in Burma.

Plain economics and(sadly) the embracing of sycophantic diplomacy vis-a-vis all our neighbours and allies. We need to stop being belligerent to India as we can prepare for them regardless whilst still sucking up to them. We need to root out extremism by deporting or eliminating any mention and support of extremist thought. We need to reform Islam in Pakistan so that it isnt left oscillating between maddening extremism and a vision of Veena Malik in Astaghfar.

And we dont need to do this as a government or state, it has to be done on a personal level. That is what Ataturk did, and despite his misled intentions; it worked for Turkey.

Pakistan failed and is failing to produce intensive high value industries that can earn it top dollar gains in key markets. That is why our economy is generally fragile and prone to international shocks. Imagine being an exporter of high capital goods such as aircraft, tractors, ships, etc, I.e. goods that countries generally import on a constant basis. Rough global economy? No problem, that's where our labour costs come into play. Blame this on shortsighted and corruption-laden leadership. And let's not forget our utterly useless diplomatic corps and its inability (read: unwillingness) to aggressively win favourable trade agreements in markets where even essentials such as food and cotton are in need.

When looking at Pakistan, the first thing we should do is capitalize on our agriculture and win highly populated markets. Create a taxation scheme based on the land, and use proceeds to develop high margin advanced industrial goods. Use our cheap currency and low labour costs to eat into the market. Get buyers into the PKR and let it raise its value a bit, and use it to import, I.e leverage economic weight.

you must realize that high value industry doesnt come out of nowhere.

High value industry development results from at least 50+ years of full freedom to industrialists.
Chinese INdian and Japanese industrialists have been at it for 100s of years.

Ayub Khan was the most effective leader of Pakistan, our GDP growth went to 6% that was 3 times more than Indian's. he United the country and significantly reduced sectarianism his constant reforms resulted in massive increases in all positive factors.
