Kohora, May 31: Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, the newly elected BJP MP from Jorhat, will launch a campaign to deport illegal migrants from his constituency.

Tasa told this to reporters on the sidelines of the extended office-bearers’ meet after the election held at the Kaziranga convention centre here.

“The campaign will be initiated by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the party within the next 15 days. In the first phase of the campaign, we will appeal to illegal immigrants to leave our land and also launch a house-to-house movement urging people not to engage these immigrants in any kind of work,” Tasa said.

The campaign can be seen as the outcome of Narendra Modi’s ultimatum to the illegal immigrants to leave the country after May 16.

Today’s meet was organised to work out plans for the party’s strategy for the municipality elections and review the results of the party in the Lok Sabha election and assess the cause for being unsuccessful despite putting up a tough fight in the constituencies where the BJP candidates lost.

State BJP president and Union minister of state, independent charge for sports and youth affairs, skill development and entrepreneurship, Sarbananda Sonowal, addressed a news conference after the meet.

He said they chose Kaziranga as the venue for the meet to send a strong message to illegal migrants who have been encroaching the national park for quite some time.

It was also chosen as a symbol of protest against the state government’s alleged failure to stop the menace of rhino killing in the national park.

“A lot of concern has been displayed by several indigenous organisations of the state regarding the killing of the one-horned rhino and the presence of a large number of suspected Bangladeshi migrants that is threatening the very existence of Kaziranga National Park. But ironically the state government blatantly denied the issue as baseless, and even conspired to provide safeguards to them,” Sonowal said. “We will go to the root of the poaching that is going unabated and no one will be spared, including bureaucrats or even ministers, if found guilty,” Sonowal added.

Sonowal said he had a meeting with Kiren Rijiju, Union minister of state for home affairs, regarding flushing out of illegal immigrants.

The government will establish the maximum number of foreigners’ tribunals to identify and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants, he added. Sonowal said the new president of the party would be selected through a democratic process.

Altogether 120 delegates attended today’s meet from 36 district committees, including all the MLAs and four of the newly elected MPs of the party. The Golaghat district unit of the BJP imposed a ban on forest minister Rakibul Hussain from entering Kaziranga, alleging his inaction in controlling poaching inside the park. The BJP has also threatened dire consequences if the minister tries to enter the park.

what is this rubbish... brown shirt movement? There is a judicial process and federal agencies job to do this and no youth movement should be allowed to harass any people

Illegals harassing locals, is okay? Since judiciary and government has failed, they need to take this matter into their hands.

Great move.

Logic is simple. Once this campaign starts in Assam, illegal BD immigrants will move to West Bengal. There is no way WB govt can sustain with these numbers, then Mamata will come to understanding with center and she will be the happiest person to depot illegals back to BD.

anyone harassing is the criminal system job and you work to improve it ... unless you are trying to become nazi India...no youth movement or anyone outside the criminal justice system should go around with vigilantism .

If you are civilized democracy - then there is no LOGIC , just Nazi styled vilagaties- if you have others go around harassing people or going home to home.

Judiciary and Government has failed because, they didnt take genuine steps.. Let the government take a strong stand and we will see how police will send them back.. Its not a job for party workers.. We clearly do not want a parallel law establishment??Next what?? Implementing culture by beating women and lovers in public??

Begum Mamata will kick Bengali Hindus to accomodate Bangladeshi Muslims. Have you ever heard Mamta tallking about plight of Bengali Hindus in Bangladesh? Our Bengali Begum only raises voice against deportation of Bangladeshi Muslims.

Why do you think they are driving them away by going door2door? I think it's all just making them aware of the policy and telling them to leave before any action taken by the GOVT in future.

They already gave enough time to the Government. If someone illegaly grabs your land, are you going to remain quiet? If they remain quiet then it would be suicidal for indegnious Assamese.

Which government?? I thought believed in Modi government?? Its clearly not the duty of some youth movement.. We have a police force to do that job.. Do you want a parallel police force in this country like those Taliban who will declare fatwa for each and everything.. By initiating and supporting this, we are going in the same path as our neighbour is going..

Police cannot really do nmuch other than look for documents. On the other hand, a legally sanctioned brigade of disciplined young officials aware of what a Bangladeshi looks and talks like, can help deport many of them.

Even if we kick them or somehow we should nor worry whether Dhaka will accept then or not. Let UN find them a place.

Not our problem.

because it is not the job of some vigilante youth group... unless you want to become a fascist regime with brown shirts manning public behaviour and policy

In the " Civilized world" - The police can arrest illegals. the immigration department can prosecute and send them back.

Your idea of band of " civilian mob justice" was what Nazi germany used....

here they're handing out leaflets to make neighbours know about the Jews and how they need to be thrown out.
