Basic Training?

Again the issue comes down to how much per capita you spend on a soldier. US Army has replaced LAW with AT-4 now. However PA has ways to go before something more sophisticated can be used. The AT-4 costs approx. $1500 for US Army. PA can ill-afford something at that unit cost when RPG-7s can be produced by POF for $300-400. Its the same dilemma as the conversion from 7.62 to 5.56mm. Need money which usually is not easily available.

Ok well maybe the Pak army can look into a newer warhead such as the PG-7VR (tandem (dual-warhead) HEAT grenade). It would greatly increase the effectiveness of the RPG-7 with out the huge cost of a newer weapon.

The German army use Panzerfaust 3 which is composed of a rocket and launcher like RPG and I have read that it can be rigged up as an offroad mine.

Does RPG 7 have such a capability?

I do like the Panzerfaust 3. It is a nice piece of kit. However as Blain has said it is probably too expensive to re-equip with it.

I meant more about the ability to set it up as a remote anti armour weapon.

Earliar in the thread range was mentioned to be a factor limiting the RPGs capability.

On a recent visit to Pakistan my Grandfather met his sister who is married to Lt General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (Retd) who is serving as the Governer of Peshawar.

They discussed the problems in Waziristan and it was mentioned that the equipment of the fighters was more advanced than that of the Pakistan Army serving there.

Given that more well equiped armies are struggling against such fighters across the border how are Pakistani troops trained or told how to react to such a situation and fight such campaigns.

Most of the systems that I checked were of a similar range (300-400 metres). They tend to cover the gap between heavier longer range systems.
Incidently according to the Pakdef forums Pak has Milan as well......Any truth to this??????

I think that is a mistake (and that too made by JANES which was copied onto PakDef). As far as I know, we do not operate Milan. The current Heavy Anti-Tank (HAT) inventory is limited to TOW and Baktar Shikan variants.

Here is a typical load-out for infantrymen in the PA (keep in mind that things have changed a bit. Uniform, webbing, helmet are all different now).

The kit is referred to as FSMO and has a few more items that are not shown in the pic.

Boys are really skinny but have very good stamina. :)

You can also see the differences in the original production G-3 and the updated one with more hardened plastic on the rifle.

hey blain, can u post some new info and pics regarding the new webbing and helmets? is it the same as the US or what?

Pakistan's industry joins international competition for new NATO-standard rifle
Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) has supplied the Pakistan Army with trials PK-8 assault rifles as the Ministry of Defence (MoD) considers changing from 7.62 mm weapons to a 5.56 mm system. But POF is facing competition from international companies including FN Herstal, which has already supplied certain units within the Pakistan armed forces with 5.56 mm weapons.

That's good news.

I have not been able to find any pictures of this assault rifle, searched every where on google images, etc. If any one has any luck please do post.

keyser,

What are the advantages of using 5.56 mm?

Thanks.

You can carry lots more ammunition. Since there is a lot of "suppression" (keeping the others guys head down instead of shooting back at you while you assualt element goes in and clears them out) going on in firefights you go through it very quickly. (I went through 300 hundred rounds in 35 minutes once.)

The 7.62 has LOTS more stopping power though.........

I see. Stopping power in what sense though?

So 7.62 mm can be used in a different situation more effectively without worrying about loosing ammunition. Lets assume in a defensive position with access to lots of ammunition if needed.
