BAF Chief wants high quality combat Aircraft

.
Dude needs to select the plane and put in request to government to approve.

Why is he saying he wants these aircraft? What is the point of that apart from time wasting?

PS - In case he is not smart enough to work round the corona thing, he needs to select his best team of pilots and technicians to go to say Sweden and then they will first quarantine for 14 days in a hotel, then do their evaluation on the Gripen and finally quarantine for 14 days on their return back to BD in a hotel.
He probably has put forward his proposals. But Hasina bibi probably being too over ambitious
But if we have no other option but to take any side , then we will choose Chinese block instead of west
Yeah wait till west cuts off trade with us... who will buy 2$ t shirts? The Chinese? They probably make theirs for a dollar

.
so you admit that Pakistan wasnt exactly arming them to the teeth because they didnt need that many guns. Taliban werent planning on conquering the world.

the americans could have helped bring the taliban to the negotiating table after the soviets left. but no. the Americans are always "wham bam, thank you ma'am". then they blame Pakistan for having to get comfortable with Taliban being our neighbours and having good ties with them otherwise there will be bloodshed.

oh yeah? who controlled the Northern Alliance, especially after the Soviets left and till the 2001? it was Iran. they were supporting them in their fight against Taliban. Iran doesnt meddle in other countries and make money? then who controls the Iraqi shias?

Pakistan was arming the Taliban

What is USA supposed to do with the Taliban when Pakistan is arming and funding them ?

The Northern Alliance was motley collection of groups that joined together for survival against the Taliban. They got help from Iran, India and Russia after they saw Pakistan trying to conquer Afghanistan through Taliban proxies

which time period are we talking?

so you admit you were wrong about Iran not trying to profit from Afghanistan situation by supporting the Northern Alliance.

It was only my vote, and it's for China.

I said we can't remain neutral , so we have to join either western block or Chinese block.

What's your answer for the question?

Is it possible for us to remain neutral?

A country can always remain neutral if its insignificant in the larger game. Bangladesh does not pose a threat to anyone Economically or Militarily. It is in a compromised geographic position. And it doesn't have and highly sought-after resources such as oil. So why would any major powers really care? I think we greatly oversell Bangladesh's geopolitical importance at the moment. This is both a blessing and a curse

If you think of the era of cold war , Pakistan played a very important role against Soviet Union. But could Pakistan remain neutral even if it wanted? The answer is simply no.

When the new cold war is about to start ( or already started ) , Bangladesh also can't remain neutral.

Also we can also overcome our geographical limitation using the land of China through Myanmar.

It will work as direct land connection between Bangladesh and the Muslim belt.

Nowadays we are surrounded by the cow belt ( hindutva ) and in long run it will just slice ourselves.

Things aren't as easy as we see with bare eyes. Even if we don't want to pose threat to them , they will end up slicing us, or end up making a client state.

We are in a situation where either we must stand tall , or get annihilated.

If we join Chinese block , it will be our life line.

As long as India is United , we can remain under Chinese block without any problem.

But if India ever become balkanized, then you will get a direct rout through the balkanized India.

So if later China will create trouble for us ( that's highly unlikely though ) , we still have the connection with Muslim belt.

Yes even a balkanized India ( if it ever happen) will be remain Hindu majority , but we never have and will never have any problems with Hindus.

In Bangladesh we ( both Muslim and Hindu ) are living in peace together.

But for belt is different thing , it's hindutva with an agenda of Akhand Bharat , and already Hyderabad state and Sikkim became victims.

That's why Hindu majority Nepal doesn't believe India.

West wont cut trade off, if anything west is now ever more reliant on cheap labor and on immigrants to run Econom.

Chinese block best bet

The West can easily divert garment sourcing to other cheap labour countries in the long term.
Bangladesh should continue to not join any camps.

This!!!! ^^^^^^^^^

I wish I could like this post a thousand times.

Even though the govt has approved fighter procurement at the cabinet level, there arr many many bureaucratic approval processes that the military needs to go through to get major purchases finalised.

BAF is too incompetent to fight it out and prefers to whinge instead.

Unless Bangladesh has a want to expand its airforce into 300 aircraft - I think it’s better off buying a Tejas / Mig-35 mix and calling it a day. Or, if it really doesn’t want to toe the Indian line in every aspect it can opt for a Su-30MS + Gripen(extremely well suited to BD force dispersal needs) and try to assemble the SAAB jet via CKD.

I say gripen. I wish the chief would actually do something other than cry online like a teenager.

If BD can get gripen and set up the assembly plant in BD😌. Throw in some drones and ya.... India can cry a river

If they could have, they would have done so by now. Diversification is not as easy as changing shopping malls

This is why I said long term. Diversification is already at play with Vietnam almost catching up.
Setting up garments factories is not rocket science. Bangladesh can be completely sidelined in 10 years time.
Name one small or medium sized economy which is doing well despite joining an anti-US camp?
China's non-interference policy means they will never come and bail you out militarily.
Best to remain neutral and let the major powers compete for stakes.

Gripen all day every day.

Dispersal being key.

That is of course if Bangladesh is serious about its defense needs.

If Bangladesh IS an Indian vassal as alot of people here say, then yea you WILL see Tejas, Mig-35 or a Flanker variant in time.
