Asia Cup 2008

Sri Lanka doesn't want to win. They will definitely beat India in Final though.

No country wants to loose, India's plan is to keep wickets not to bother much about wickets. India played 5 regular bowlers to restrict Srilanka to 308.

Not showing any effort. Replacing good bowlers with bowlers who have average of 50.

Is known as not wanting to win.

Oh well..Pakistan tried but in the end, crappy performances early on and bad luck ended the chance of making it to the finals. :argh:

India may have won, but their performance overall was less than impressive. Gambhir and Dhoni were the only two truly consistent players with a good mindset. Sehwag played some good strokes but took way too many risks and just got lucky time and time again; the same goes for Raina. The latter as an incoming youngster really needs to improve his game; the amount of uppish shots he plays indicate less than stellar technique. Yuvraj didn't look in solid touch either; his ability to play big strokes is certainly very entertaining and has made him very famous; but dare I say he too needs to solidify his technique a bit more. Dhoni on the other hand was brilliant, the way he interspersed the boundaries with steady 1-2 run shots was simply awesome; he does take a few chances by playing across the line (actually flicking across the line) close to the stumps when playing Murali, and that is exactly what got him undone; but his innings was simply marvelous.

The bowling was pathetic. The frontline pacemen tried their best to contain, but had virtually no support from Kumar and Pathan, who had an abysmal display today.

Unless these guys tighten up their belt and start playing seriously there is no way they are going to be able to beat a full strength SL especially with Vaas taking the new ball and Murali bowling in tandem with Ajantha Mendis.

Interesting! iwonder what happens in the pakistani camp afterwards. Is the coach due for replacement? Is the captain going? I think irrespective of what happens, Pakistan must keep relying on fresh blood . Asif must be duly and severely punished for his stupidity. Itr is important the board not let him get away like they did with Shoaib early on. We need a new bunch of Bowlers and Batsmen. i think Nasir Jamshed should be given an extended trial, along with Salman Butt, followed by, Younus, Yousuf, Misbah and Shoaib. Sarfaraz should come in whenever. What we need are a couple of Allrounders, followed by Sohail tanvir, umer gul and one more Bowler. I think kaneria should be in the side for the tests at least. we can relyon Afridi lower down as a bowler rather than an allrounder.
will the spectre of captaincy arise again?

SL wanted to win. no one wants to lose a winning streak. SL knew that if they lost yesterday, they lose momentum, and india will go into the finals with more confidence.

the pitch is flat and lifeless. in this series alone three times a target of 300 had been chased down, and that too, with ease.

India vs Pak 1st match - India chases down target of 300 with ease
India vs Pak 2nd match -Pak chases down target of 309 with ease
India vs SL - India chases down target of 309 with ease.

a traget of over 300 is no longer the assured victory it used to be. 308 was never enough on that pitch.

if this trend continues then win the toss - bat 1st - put up in excess of 350+ and then wait for the other team to make mistakes will ensure victory.

not necessarily. what's the guarantee u can put 350 on the board? if the pitch offers something to the bowlers, and has a bit of swing, batting first can be difficult, and the batsmen might make a lot of mistakes, getting out cheaply. the team batting second can learn from those mistakes and score more carefully.

Too little too late. It is interesting how one wrong decision can cost you a match and your chances of winning the game. However, as long as Pakistan uses this opportunity to reflect and learn form it, it will be good for them.
