Procurement of new aircraft for BD airforce seems not in the card, at least for now. There were reports of purchasing a few squadrons of jf-17 and then of j-10. Airforce officers were also sent to China to check out the ptechnical aspects of these planes. Even another squadron of mig-29 was also talked about.
But, the GoB may have other priorities. It is giving more emphasise on procuring surface to air missile defence systems. It is now also upgrading all the T-59 tanks to T-90/96. BD has wuite a few hundred T-59 tanks. These upgraded tanks will be fitted with 1200 hp engines. It has also ordered 44 units of new T-2000 tanks.
GoB is also continuously purchasing or building naval ships, big and small. But, it still is not after a purchase of planes. GoB thinks it unwise to spend 20 or 30 million dollars on each plane when its ground defence system lacks strength. Without a defence on the ground, the enemy planes can easily destroy them. So, it is purchasing SAMs with the necessary radar system, instead. Enough SAMs can protect whatever military assets BD has on the ground.
Therefore, the 1st priority has been set at procuring SAM missile systems with radars that can spot enemy planes in the sky and instruct the ground to fire multiple missiles. The 2nd is purchasing and upgrading tanks. 3rd is the purchase of surface ships. 4th is the procurement of planes for the airforce, and 5th is the purchase of submarines.
By observing the purchsing records of the last few years I do not think BD will go fast with any purchase of planes.
