Say impossible to Turks than sit and watch!

We done it finally also there are some good news about Firtina's engine which 1000 HP and indigious locomotive's engine which 1200 HP.

Korean engine will be used until BATU power pack get ready to serial production for first phase of Altay's deliver. After first batch we will contunie with local power pack.

Our modern tank fleet is enough for east side but we need next generation MBTs for west side, so thats why it is better to use Korean power pack to speed up project.

Following the success in indigenous electric high-speed train sets, the successful progress of indigenous locomotive engines is a great achievement for the Turkish industry. It will generate billions of dollars of added value in the coming decades.

Likewise, BMC-Power's 800, 1000 and 1500hp indigenous diesel engines and transmissions work will add power to both the heavy duty vehicles and shipbuilding industries with derivative engines in the future.

Although the Turkish automotive industry is at a very important point, especially in engine design and manufacturing, unfortunately, these activities were being carried out as a sub-branch of global automotive/heavy vehicle companies such as Ford, Fiat and Mercedes. But more specifically, the defense industry in particular felt the lack of a fully indigenous engine because of tons of shit that were came from so called allies. However, this problem was felt to a greater or lesser extent in many industrial fields, from natural gas cycle power plants in the energy sector to marine diesel engines in the shipbuilding industry.

These developments in the defense industry will be able to respond to each of these areas with derivative civilian variants. In short, we are at a historic threshold for Turkish industry. While focusing on new generation propulsion systems and electric power generation, we are also rapidly closing the gap in our industrial areas in internal combustion engines and turbine engines with the leverage effect of the defense industry. In light of current developments, by 2028-2029, the Turkish industry will be able to supply all engine and power packages built-in-house, which alone will great x-factor to the Turkish defense industry.

I think Turkiye and Pakistan should form a consortium to jointly develop, manufacture and sell their respective Tanks and armored vehicles. Typically the cost of large scale manufacturing in Pakistan is much lower than Turkiye. It will increase viability of Altay MBTs for international clients.

funny how long Turkey needed to find a replacement for the stonage old 1500hp MTU powerpack... still shocking that even south Korea needed years to come up with a own engine/transmission solution still not in the same reliability range as the MTU/Renk pack

It's actually not that surprising. Especially when it is considered that the Germans have achieved this durability and reliability in more than 100 years, especially in the transmission field.

The Altay project was a very wrongly executed a defence project. Tender canceled due to political reasons, not including the power package in the project at the very beginning, incorrect determination of military requirements, etc. It went into textbooks on "How to screw up a defence project", after Arjun!

However, one way or another, the project has come to an end. No problem with the domestic engine. As for transmission, it looks like we will switch to a serial hybrid system, if we fail to develop a mechanical transmission.

Also we've made significant progress in other subsystems. Especially on composite armor and active protection systems.

Well the plan was to use the best in class engine and transmission from Germany, and then later down the road develop domestic power packs for later versions. IMO its not a bad plan, if you try to do all things at once, that has liabilities too, just look at the HAL Tejas, the indians tried to develop the engine at the same time as building the aircraft. what happened is that the engine development didn't go as planned and that delayed production and held up parts of the project that were already finished and waiting on integration of other systems. The Tejas project only got rescued after the aircraft was decoupled from the domestic engine project allowing other parts of the project to go forward with a foreign imported powerplant . There is no magic bullet in development philosophy, you make choices between speed of development/production and complete control via a domestic supplychain, and sometimes unforeseen things happen.

There was no expectation of an embargo over the Syria operation against the PKK, or PKK lobbying in Europe. Now if you want to argue that the operation against the PKK state south of Turkey's border was not worth having the blowback on the Altay, thats a different point. IMO the mistake Turkey made was allowing the relationship between the PKK and the US to be created. Turkey should have launched a Euphrates Shield operation in 2014(when the Kobane thing was happening and the US decided to give the PKK air support to expand their controlled territory and take back areas from Daesh), to create a buffer zone on the border with syrian partners, and then allow a safezone there for refugees. Though Turkey was a bit gunshy about going into Syria, and instead the PKK capitalized and the US got stuck with the reliance on the PKK.

Yeah there was a deal to replace the German engine and transmission with the South Korean Engine and transmission. though I'm still a bit skeptical about the Korean transmission considering that South Korea still hasn't certified and started using it for their K2 Panthers, and are only using the Korean engine with the RENK german transmission.

This source is notoriously unreliable. Just 6 Fırtına-2 will be delivered at once. There are 6 Fırtına-2 in the inventory, the number will increase to 12.

No news for Altay Tank.

"It is claimed that the ALTAY tank will be taken off the production line." That's the title of the news. Claim of a local newspaper.

If there was such a development, BMC company would first announce it on its corporate twitter account. I repeat, there is no confirmed news for the Altay Tank.

it is without a doubt the most embarrassing failure of the Turkish defence industry since it's inception.

A New generation of tanks came out like the T-14 Armata, the KF-51 Panther etc. and Altay still isn't in production.

Altay being a Leopard 2 equivalent, is quickly getting older. Even if the production starts right now, this chassis will be obsolete in 10 years.

Sensible thing to do would be cancelling this project and developing a next generation tank. But of course AKP wouldn't want to admit failure so Altay will keep on limping on. Hopefully the production starts next year.. or the year after that :drag:
