45 More MiG 29K for Indian Navy.

.
This if true would hurt some Rafale fanboy who told we went for Mig29k just because we dont have any other option .

.
yeh mat pucho rakhenge kaha, yeh pucho ki chalayega kaun (IN is short of officers & pilots)

The article clearly talks of additional 45 over and above 16+29 earlier & i think additional orders were always on card.

so in a decade or so IN now has:

90 mig 29ks + 60 NLCA + around 50-60 Rafale (not sure of this) so around 200 4.5 gen fighters
It won't be the Rafale, but the N-LCA Mk. II. the Navy has stated it's firm requirement of of 43 N-LCA and 60 N-LCA Mk. II.
These would be followed by N-AMCA which is confirmed due to considerable Naval funding in the program.......:victory::victory:

any link ....

As per Admiral Nirmal Verma, IN will have (in 12-15 years time) around >500 aircrafts (both fixed & rotatory wing), now it is becoming more & more clearer that it will include around 200 fighters  navy's eye is completely set on to become a truly expeditionary force which can inflict damage on land far from Indian shores. This will be the time when our Naval air arm will be included in the top 15 (maybe even top 10) air forces in the world :enjoy:

.
i doubt this news as there has been no mention of it in the national media.

i am also not sure about the same but i think IN will surely go for more Mig's, though the timing of the deal could be a few months or year late.

. .
INS Vikramaditya and IAC-1 will accommodate around 60 Mig-29Ks while other 30s will be stationed in Goa naval air base as a replacement for maintenance and overhauling. IN is not repeating the mistakes it committed while acquiring Sea Harriers.

Will love to have Rafale-M.....:smitten:

No doubt, IN will go sooner or later for the Rafale, it is waiting for the planes to be inducted in the IAF after which it can order for the naval version, it is on the same lines as the tejas, when tejas for IAF was in advanced stage navy requested for it's naval version, this helps in combined training & logistics support from the IAF. I see no reason why IN will not induct the fighters as it is a proven carrier fighter & IAF is inducting at least 200 of these beasts.

+ one reason for elimination of Eurofighter Typhoon can be because of it having no naval version.

+ If IN goes for F-35 in future it may not go for Rafale than.

As far as i know, there is very less chance for more MIGs

We ordered 45 Migs for Vik and IAC I which will be enough,as at max Vik can carry only 16 to 20 MIgs.
There will be 25-29 Migs left.considering IAC I can carry up to 30-35 fighters it will be a mix of Migs and N-LCAs.

  • INS Vikramaditya - (16-20) MIGs
  • IAC I - (25-29) MIGs + (8-10) N-LCAs = 30-35
  • IAC II - (30-45) Rafale-M or F 35 or SH
  • IAC III - (40-60) N-PAK FA or AMCA :woot:

Also every MIGs due to crash will be replaced with N - LCAs.
we should also look at the carrier configuration. If IN go for IAC II in CATOBAR / EMALS then there is no chance for MIG as very capable fighters are waiting for our go.
MIG 29 are not the best out there for future use when comparing Rafale-M or F 35 or SH.
That's what N-MMRCA is all about.
I would go for Rafale without a rethink.
But when we negotiate for EMALS they probably going to sell F35 and EMALS as a package.Same catch as with INS Vik.
But F35 can be very helpful for our future LPDs.

.
^^ I think Agent 47 has gotten pretty close to the truth and what will actually happen.

.
Since we are talking about carrier fighters, I want to know when will the construction of IAC-2 start, since now even the requirements are not given by the navy & we are talking about it's commissioning in 2017??

Most likely within a year/18 months of IAC-1 being completed/commissioned. Commisiong will poorly be ~2018/19, 2017 is a maybe but a huge long shot.

it is interesting that Mig29k is as good as Mirage2000-5mk2 and F16 block 52, while even if Mig29s have been traditionally a front line air superiority aircrafts, it has improved its a2g capabilities considerably, making it a true multi role aircraft, and now russian navy has also ordered a big number of this aircrafts. and also, you are just paying $2bil for 45 aircrafts, means hardly around $45mil each, which is very cheap, even if its maintenance cost is little high. and you simply can't get any other aircraft like this front line 4.5 gen aircraft for so low price which is mainly because it has a running production line. even if you think for Rafale, say, you will have to pay $110mil first, then wait for 4-5 years until they will have made its production line in India with having proposed upgrades including more powerful AESA radar etc etc. while right now 9 Mig29k in being delivered to you per year right now, and delivery rate is expected to be increased by next 1-2 years as per this new expected deal of 45 more. also, even if you may get Rafale for $110mil from 2015/16 onwards, your pilot will need training on them for 2-3 years before they may fly it to border areas while Indian pilots already have full training on Mig29s, with full infrastruture of it in India itself

India need fast delivery of 4.5 gen aircrafts to replace its old aircrafts and right now they are getting around 42 every year (33 SU30mki + 9 Mig29k), and we hope to have the same delivery rate, or higher for Mig29ks as per this new deal, until production like of Rafale F4 and LCA mack2 is opened from 2015/16 onwards

Russia and India according to finalize the delivery schedule, Russia will be delivered to India in 2012, more 40 m-17V-5 type of military transport helicopters, 21 Su-30MKI (signed in 2000, according to contract to license the assembly), 12 Su-30MKI (according to the 2007 supply contracts signed) and nine carrier-based fighter aircraft MiG -29K/KUB.

think again, for Rafale as it won't be in service till 2020 as explained above, if not later. and think again for F35 also, as per the news we are getting as below:

Part of the presentation showed a computer simulation which calculated that the F-35 would be consistently defeated by the Russian-made SU-35 fighter aircraft. The defeat calculated by the scenario also showed the loss of the F-35's supporting airborne-early warning and air-to-air refueling aircraft,

Independent air combat analysts from Air Power Australia have also stated that the F-35 is not capable of facing high end threats; that what will be delivered (if it ever arrives) will be obsolete; and that the F-35 is not affordable or sustainable.
