Pakistan tops troop contributors in UN peacekeeping
UNITED NATIONS: With Pakistan topping the list of troop contributors, the U.N. peacekeeping deployment reached a historic high at the end of October, the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) has reported.
Nearly 81,000 military and police personnel and some15,000 civilians serving in peace operations around the world in 18 different missions, and a budget that could reach $7 billion, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Marie Guihenno said.
The 18 peacekeeping missions are in Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Peacekeeping personnel come from some 112 countries, the top thee troop contributors were: Pakistan (9,790), Bangladesh (9,655) and India (9,276).
