China amends rules to improve Party work in armed forces

S10, can I ask you... since the international polls show that the vast majority of Chinese people support the government, do you think that their opinions should be "ignored" in the quest for "democracy"?

Also, Perestroika was an absolute disaster for the USSR.

Where is this poll you speak of? What is the sample frame? How many samples? What was the sampling strategy?

USSR doomed itself long before perestroika. Its fate was sealed after Yuri Andropov died.

If you mean stirr things up by demanding greater transparency in government, nationalized military, independent judiciary and freedom of the press, then yes. These keep society stable in the long run.

Ala Liu Xiaobo? Because that's what he was really after?

It was an unmonitored poll (if that's what your thinking) done by a long-standing western polling organization, they publish their methodology right on their website.

I think you are trying to speak for the Chinese people when they themselves have told you no.

No, he accepted money from American National Endowment of Democracy. From that point on he became a pawn in United State's scheme. China needs reformers with national interests at heart, not American puppets.

There was the Pew Global research one that I posted before, and the recent Edelman barometer one that had its own thread in China defence. Etc.

I am posting from a smartphone right now, but I'm sure you guys can find the links.

I'm glad we at least agree here. If we let the west neuter China it will be the greatest shame in China's 4000 years of history.

So where is this actual poll? I searched the survey section back to 2000 and nothing.

I think you are trying to speak for the Chinese people when they themselves have told you no.
I cannot speak for Chinese people anymore than a single poll can. Not everyone shares the same sentiment in China regarding CCP.

Right, no they don't but Chinese people want political freedom like anyone else and they're perfectly capable of doing what is in their best interest.

under the ascendant China heading.

China is clearly the most self-satisfied country in the survey. Nine-in-ten Chinese are happy with the direction of their country (87%), feel good about the current state of their economy (91%) and are optimistic about China’s economic future (87%). Moreover, about three-in-four Chinese (76%) think the U.S. takes into account Chinese interests when it makes foreign policy.

None of that directly address how CCP is viewed. That tells me China has a growing economy, and little of political change.

Yeah I know, here's one specifically about government trust.

Like you said no poll is ever going to be truly representative, but this should give you some idea about China's optimism and satisfaction with the current situation. I still talk to people at home, all of my family (both sides) are still in China, they are not rich people and they know that the government has its faults, but they know what's best for themselves.

Optimism in one sampling frame does not mean the same as another sampling frame. I still have not seen what sampling strategy they took. From the bolded part, they are most likely samples from major urban areas who benefited most from the economic boom. In times of economic woes however, government faults will magnify. Shortcomings are meant to be corrected, not swept under the rug. Political reforms are a way to ensure future stability of society.

"The annual Edelman Trust Barometer released on Wednesday shows China and Brazil drive the rise in the trust in government among the world's top 10 GDP countries, with China boasts the highest rate of 88 percent.

Edelman inquired 5,075 people from 23 countries. The subjects, aged between 25 and 64, all reported significant media consumption and engagement in business news and public policy.

The survey shows considerable increase in Chinese citizens' faith in almost all four pillars from the previous year, with the government winning 14 percent more faith."
