China denies visa to top general in Indian Occupied Kashmir

It is time to change the India’s Tibet policy. In a democracy Government represents people will and not the other way round…Please remember India is not some banana republic and does not need to follow an appeasement policy wrt China.

First lets not delude ourselves that all the people's opinions are represented in any democracy, most people below the poverty line do not have their opinions expressed and thats quite a large group of India's population at the moment.

The bottom line is China needs India more than India needs China and China has to take the first steps

Is this comment made in context to controlling southern Asia? I'm assuming you don't economically or technological innovations etc.

This move is nothing else but unnecessary needling. Why did China suddenly feel the urge to do this? As the news report stated, A General of the Eastern Command (covering Arunachal pradesh) had already visited China earlier. Why did China not have a problem with a General of AP but one of J&K? Beats me.

And whats even more perplexing is that in retaliation India has canceled a course for Chinese officials at the National Defense College. That means military relation were going on smoothly uptill now. So what really grabbed China's throat so much that it stooped to such cheap tactics?
Nothing.......its silly. Denying a visa will do what?

We will not go there...so what wwill happen. If they are for peace theen they will act as a responsible one.

Well the Gujarat CM was denied visa for his role in Muslim massacre in Gujarat. :toast_sign: China denied visa to you general of a disputed territory where Indian army is busy in human rights violations on hourly basis.

Chill out, y'all.
I think one has to understand the strategic aims of the Indian and Chinese more than anything else.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir, if you realize, has immense strategic value. It is a gateway from central Asia to Pakistan/India and hence the sea-lanes of the Indian Ocean. The stakes are bigger than most of us can imagine.

For a start, I've never believed that Pakistanis really sympathize with Kashmiris. They don't give a ***'s a$$ if every one of them dies at the hand of Indian soldiers, as long as India gets egg on it's face. They don't speak a word about Ughiurs (my Chinese friends will resent this reference, I'm sure)..............It's all about '71!!!!

The Chinese, on the other hand, really need control over that region because it offers an alternative land route to receiving resources as opposed to the sea route that, again, passes through India's region of influence. IMHO one of the biggest reasons for the China-Pakistan love affair is this strategically important region. Everyone has a stake there, Pakistan's is based on revenge/loss of face- India's on Ego/Strategy and China's purely based on strategy.

Moreover, IMO the Chinese are passively aggressive as a nation(as opposed to being remarkably balanced as individuals)-their long-term strategy is of throwing out a firecracker like this once in a while and seeing how India reacts, and then deciding on what to do next. It's more about reminding the other that one still has leverage in a topic.

Tibet is a lost cause for India- it was a strategic blunder to recognize Tibet as a part of China without solving the border dispute, but it's too late for that. Almost. India still has some leverage as it hosts the Dalai Lama- something that it uses very occasionally and subtly.

Last I heard that China was reconsidering the decision to deny the visa, and that conciliatory noises were being made from both sides. In a week, life will go on and the great game resumes.

The best post so far

I think Chinese will continue to use such kind of pressure tactics until we come on the table to discuss the disputed area in J and k territory, here i am referring to 'Aksi Chin' and not any other territory. Even though Chinese control it we still maintain a political claim over it and constitute it as a part of J and K area as reflected in the official Map of India.
I think it is the time for us to get to the table to China to sort out Aksi Chin claim issue. I believe if we do this and reach some agreement with them, then it will help us to soften there support to our western neighbors on J and K issue.

do not get provoked, maintain the hold on Kashmir. It is just that Chinese are good allies of Pakistan. It could be pre planned on Pakistan's Request just to inform us China has started interfering.

LOL so we made our displeasure known to them, big deal. Equations are simple

you deny us visa = we will deny you visa
you harp on Kashmir = we will start harping on Tibet

India wants friendly relations with China, it's up to China what they want

Visa denial row: Be more “sensitive”, India tells China

New Delh: China and India should show "sensitivity to each others' concerns", the Indian foreign ministry said Friday amid reports that China had denied a visa to a senior army officer responsible for Jammu and Kashmir.

"While we value our exchanges with China, there must be sensitivity to each others' concerns," said ministry of external affairs spokesperson Vishnu Prakash.

The statement follows a media report that General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Area Command, BS Jaswal was supposed to visit China for a high-level exchange but was denied a visa as he had Jammu and Kashmir under his area of control.

However, Prakash just said that the visit was cancelled due to "certain reasons". He added that talks were still on with China to resolve the issue. "Our dialogue with China on these issues is ongoing," the MEA spokesperson said.

The ministry also said that India and China had a "important, multi-faceted and complex relationship".

"Our interaction has been growing in a number of areas, including defence. In recent years, we have had useful defence exchanges at various levels," he added.

According to the report in a daily, following the latest visa denial, the defence ministry had stopped the visit of two Chinese army officials to the National Defence College.
Responding to questions on the issue, Defence Minister AK Antony said in Hyderabad: "It is not the question of breaking ties."

"There are occasional problems but that will not affect our broader approach," he told reporters.
