Saare Jahan Se Achchha (Urdu:سارے جہاں سے اچھا), formal name: Tarana-e-Hindi (Urdu: ترانۂ ہندی "Anthem of the People of Hindustan"), is one of the enduring patriotic poems of the Urdu language. Written originally for children in the ghazal style of Urdu poetry by poet Muhammad Iqbal, the poem was published in the weekly journal Ittehad on 16 August 1904.[1] Recited by Iqbal the following year at Government College, Lahore, now in Pakistan, it quickly became an anthem of opposition to the British rule in India. The song, an ode to Hindustan—the land comprising present-day Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan—both celebrated and cherished the land even as it lamented its age-old anguish. As Tarana-e-Hindi, it was later published in 1924 in the Urdu book Bang-i-Dara.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Better than the entire world, is our Hindustan,
We are its nightingales, and it (is) our garden abode
If we are in an alien place, the heart remains in the homeland,
Know us to be only there where our heart is.
That tallest mountain, that shade-sharer of the sky,
It (is) our sentry, it (is) our watchman
In its lap frolic those thousands of rivers,
Whose vitality makes our garden the envy of Paradise.
O the flowing waters of the Ganges, do you remember that day
When our caravan first disembarked on your waterfront?
Religion does not teach us to bear ill-will among ourselves
We are of Hind, our homeland is Hindustan.
In a world in which ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome have all vanished without trace
Our own attributes (name and sign) live on today.
Such is our existence that it cannot be erased
Even though, for centuries, the cycle of time has been our enemy.
Iqbal! We have no confidence in this world
What does any one know of our hidden pain?

- By Ram Prasad Bismil

cheen o arab humaara, hindustan humaara
Muslim hain, hum watan hain, saara jahan humaara

Another nice poem on India is Iqbal's Hindustani Bacchon ka Qaumi Geet (National Song of Hindustani Kids)

Chishti ne jis zamin me paigam-I-haq sunaya
Nanak ne jis chaman me Wahdat ka git gaya
Tatarion ne jisko apna watan banaya
Jis ne hijazion se dasht-e-Arab chhuRaya,
Mera watan wohi hai, mera watan wohi hai.

Mera watan wohi hai, mera watan wohi hai.

meeer E Arab ko aai Thandi hawa jahan say
mera Watan wohi hai mera WataN woh hai.

bande kaleem jis kai, parwat jahan ki sena
nuhai nabi ka aa kar, tahra jahan safeena
rafat hai jis zameen ki, bamey falak tha zeena
jannat ki zindagi hai,jis ki fiza mei jeena

mera watan wohi hai, mera watan wohi hai x4
-Iqbal

Just attempting a rough translation for those who don't know Urdu

This is the land where Chishti preached the message of truth;
Where nanak sang the song of Unity of God;
Where the Tartars made their home.
And enabled the people of Hijaz to leave the deserts of Arabia.
This is my homeland, this is my homeland.

The nation that had shocked the Greeks -->referring to Alexander's invasion
And taught knwoledge and skill to the whole world
The Soil which the Lord made valuable
And gave priceless treasures to the world
This is my homeland, This is my homeland

The stars that had fallen from the Iranian sky
Were taken up and lifted to shine the entire universe
The place where the world heard the words of unity
The place where the prophet Muhammed felt a cool breeze from
That is my homeland, That is my homeland

The place whose people are intelligence and where the mountains are its army
The place where prophet Noah's boat came and stopped ---> This is referring to the belief that Prophet Nuh is buried in UP India
The place whose land is hallowed and its sky is an adornment
Living in its atmoshephere is like living in Jannat(heaven)
This is my homeland, This is my homeland

Ofcourse I can't do justice to the Urdu words when I translate.

to show that hindustan humara hai

Wo tu china bhi hamara hai :) If u read the 2nd tarana of Iqbal.

Chin o Arab hamara Hindoosatan hamra
Muslim hai, hum watan hain, sara jahan hamara

We are happy that it is poets from India who are considered the national poets of even neighboring countries - Tagore for India, Tagore for Bangladesh, Iqbal for Pakistan and the guy who wrote Sri Lankan anthem was also a student of Tagore.
