বৃহষ্পতিবার (৪ জুন) থেকে আনুষ্ঠানিক সেবা কার্যক্রম শুরু করতে যাচ্ছে বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে বড় ‘শেখ হাসিনা জাতীয় বার্ণ ও প্লাস্টিক সার্জারি ইনস্টিটিউট’। স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ মন্ত্রী জাহিদ মালেক এর উদ্ধোধন করবেন বলে জানা গেছে। পোড়া রোগীদের চিকিৎসার জন্য স্থাপিত এ প্রতিষ্ঠানটি দেশের স্বাস্থ্যসেবায় নতুন মাইল ফলক বলে দাবি করছেন সংশ্লিষ্টরা। প্রতিষ্ঠানটি রোগীদের পাশাপাশি চিকিৎসক ও নার্সদের পেশাগত দক্ষতা বাড়াতে সহায়ক হবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।

ইনস্টিটিউটের প্রকল্প পরিচালক অধ্যাপক ডা. আবুল কালাম জানান, ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালে প্রথমে পাঁচটি শয্যা নিয়ে বার্ণ ইউনিটের যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছিল। এর পর ধাপে ধাপে তা ১শ শয্যায় রূপান্তরিত হয়। এখন এটি পাঁচশ’ শয্যার ইনস্টিটিউটে রূপান্তরিত হয়েছে।
জানা গেছে, রোগীর চিকিৎসার জন্য রয়েছে ৫০০ শয্যা। এ ছাড়া গুরুতর অসুস্থ রোগীদের চিকিৎসার জন্য ইন্টেনসিভ কেয়ার ইউনিটে (আইসিইউ) ২২টি শয্যা রয়েছে। রোগীর উন্নত চিকিৎসা নিশ্চিত করার জন্য ২২ শয্যা বিশিষ্ট হাই ডেফিসিয়েন্সি ইউনিট (এইচডিইউ), ১২টি অপারেশন থিয়েটার এবং একটি অত্যাধুনিক পোস্ট অপারেটিভ ওয়ার্ড আছে। দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে জরুরি চিকিৎসার প্রয়োজনে রোগী নিয়ে আসার জন্য ভবনের ছাদে হেলিপ্যাড সুবিধা রাখা হয়েছে। হাসপাতালের পার্কিংয়ে একসঙ্গে ১৮০টি গাড়ি রাখার ব্যবস্থা থাকবে।
বিএনপি-জামায়াত জোট ২০১৪ সালের ৫ জানুয়ারি নির্বাচন বর্জনের পরই দেশব্যাপী পেট্রোল বোমা হামলার ঘটনা ঘটে। শত শত মানুষ পেট্রোল বোমায় হতাহত হয়। দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে পেট্রোল বোমায় আহত হয়ে ঢাকায় আনার পথেই অনেকের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। আবার অনেকে বিভিন্ন হাসপাতালে ভর্তি হলেও চিকিৎসা না পেয়ে মৃত্যুবরণ করে। ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ ও হাসপাতালের বার্ণ ইউনিটে শয্যার তুলনায় কয়েক গুণ রোগী ভর্তি থাকায় সেখানেও সংকুলান করতে হিমশিম খেতে হয় কর্তৃপক্ষকে।
এসব বিষয় বিবেচনা করেই ২০১৫ সালের ২৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি ঢাকায় প্লাস্টিক সার্জারি বিষয়ক এক আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলনে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের একটি বার্ণ ও প্লাস্টিক সার্জারি ইনস্টিটিউট স্থাপনের ঘোষণা দেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা।
২০১৫ সালের নভেম্বরে জাতীয় অর্থনৈতিক পরিষদের নির্বাহী কমিটির (একনেক) সভায় এই ইনস্টিটিউটের অনুমোদন দেওয় হয়।
২০১৬ সালের ৬ এপ্রিল প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা চাঁনখারপুলে এই ইনস্টিটিউটের ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর স্থাপন করেন। ২৭ এপ্রিল বাংলদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কোর এর নির্মাণ কাজ শুরু করে।
১৯৮৬ সালে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের একটি ওয়ার্ডে ছয়টি বেড নিয়ে বার্ণ বিভাগ চালু করেন দেশের প্রথম প্লাস্টিক সার্জন অধ্যাপক ডা. মোহাম্মদ শহীদুল্লাহ। অধ্যাপক ডা. সামন্ত লালের প্রচেষ্টায় ২০০৩ সালে সেটি ৫০ বেডের পূর্ণাঙ্গ ইউনিট হিসেবে কাজ শুরু করে।
২০১০ সালের ৩ জুন পুরান ঢাকার নিমতলীতে ভয়াবহ অগ্নিকান্ডে ১২৭ জনের মৃত্যুর পর বার্ন ইউনিটের সক্ষমতা আরও বাড়ানোর বিষয়টি গুরুত্ব পায়। এ ইউনিটের বেডের সংখ্যা বেড়ে প্রথমে ১শ’ ও পরে ৩শ’ হয়।

The largest burning hospital in the world starts service.

The world's largest 'Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute' is going to start formal service from Thursday (June 4th). Health and family welfare minister Zahid Malek said that he will do it. The organization, which is set up for the treatment of burn patients, is a new mile blade in the health service of the country. It is expected that the organization will be helpful in increasing the professional skills of doctors and nurses as well as patients.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 18-storey Sheikh Hasina National Burning and Plastic Surgery Institute on October 24 last year, at a cost of 91.2 crore at Chandakharpur, under the supervision of the army. There are three blocks in the burn unit, plastic surgery unit and academic wing.
The project director of the institute Dr. Abul Kalam said, the burn unit started with the first five beds in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. After that, it was converted into a bed in step by step. Now it has turned into five hundred 'bedroom institute.
It is known that 500 beds for patient treatment. In addition, there are 22 beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the treatment of serious sick patients. There is a 22-bed high defensive unit (HDU), 12 operation theaters and a sophisticated post-operative ward to ensure better treatment for the patient. The helipad facility has been kept on the rooftop roof of the country to bring the patient to emergency treatment. There are 180 units of parking in the hospital parking area.
The BNP-Jamaat alliance on January 5, 2014 after the election boycott started petrol bomb attacks across the country. Hundreds of people were killed in petrol bombs. Many people have been killed in different parts of the country due to petrol bomb injuries. Many people are admitted to different hospitals but they died after getting treatment. Due to admission in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital burn unit few times than the bed, the patient has to face difficulty, but the authorities have to eat.
Considering these issues, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced the establishment of an International Standard Burning and Plastic Surgery Institute on 27th February 2015 at an International Conference on Plastic Surgery.
In November 2015, the approval of this institute was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
On 6 April 2016, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of this institute at Chanakhharpul. On April 27, the construction of the Engineering Corps of the Bengal Army started.
In 1986, the Burning Division took six beds in a ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the country's first plastic surgeon Prof. Mohammad Shahidullah Professor Dr. With the efforts of Samant Lal, it started in 2003 as a full-fledged unit of 50 beds.
After the death of 127 fire in Nimtali in Old Dhaka on June 3, 2010, it is important to increase the efficiency of the burn unit. The number of beds in this unit is increased to 1 hundred and three hundred first.
