Will support India against friendly neighbour: Medvedev

I'm not saying that nothing has changed. China has grow huge than it was in '70s, both economically and military. may be Russia need China more than they need India. But that doesn't void the decades old relation.

If by any chance India make healthy relation with China in coming decade and after that India threatens Pak for survival or limited conflict than despite of India's large economy and market, China is not going to abandon you,are they?
Who says we'd need China to defend ourselves from Indian trash talk fights?

Did we ask China to intervene in 1999, 2002, 2008 standoffs? That is another thing China hurried its supply of 250 F-7Pgs in 2002 when war seemed imminent.

LOL, so what happened during 1962?

Russia, being an ally of both India and China, stayed out of it. Just like all the other wars that India has fought.

Its been 48 years, lots have been changed. You dont even support North Korea they way used too. US does not support Pakistan the way they used too. But you are right USSR was not in India's court during 1962.

There is difference between standoffs and fully grown war front. But nothing can be certain that's for sure.

That can be hardly called as war! No air force, no navy and Russia was ready to help India. Read the words of Nikita Khrushchev.

Russia, being an ally of both India and China, stayed out of it. Just like all the other wars that India has fought.

That just imply that you know nothing! Read it first.

Nowadays, Pakistan has become an "vital artery" for China. Gwadar port and the Karakorum highway for instance, are vital strategic interests for China, that would be put at risk in the event of Indian aggression.

So any future war between India and Pakistan would end up threatening these vital Chinese interests, and draw China in to the fight.

So yes, times have changed. China is in a much stronger position than we were in 1962, now our economy is now FOUR times larger than the Indian economy and growing faster too.

India is capable of fighting joint China and Pakistan forces. Also there is little chance than India will be fighting alone! Thats what Medvedev mean. Also Japan, Taiwan, US etc will wait for that situation.

Larger economy doesn't mean more powerful. Japan is much larger economy than Russia but less firepower. Until 2010 Japan was bigger economy than China but less powerful.

I seriously doubt it, how can you beat two, when you can't even beat one?

Anyway, I guess we'll see how it turns out.

Who is talking about beating anyone? In modern war when big powers fight no one wins. We will only see how much unacceptable damage can we cause. Do you think joint Pak-China force can beat India? No.

Fair enough, I am not aware of all the things that happened during the India-Pakistan wars... however since when did Russia "intervene" on behalf of anyone?

"When Pakistan's defeat in the eastern sector seemed certain, Nixon ordered the USS Enterprise into the Bay of Bengal. On 6 December and 13 December, the Soviet Navy dispatched two groups of ships and a submarine, armed with nuclear missiles, from Vladivostok; they trailed U.S. Task Force 74 into the Indian Ocean from 18 December 1971 until 7 January 1972. The Soviets also had a nuclear submarine to help ward off the threat posed by USS Enterprise task force in the Indian Ocean."

:rofl::rofl: History lessons..Atleast a simple search on net will give the details..
However Russia did make it clear by alerting its M-Sites during the troubled time that it will not shy from repeating 1971..Go Figure..

Thanks for the info.

This doesn't apply to China though, since China is also an ally of Russia. :azn:
