No role in declassification of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose files: National Advisory Council

The National Advisory Council (NAC) has clarified that its chairperson plays no role in the declassification of secret documents relating to the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

"I have been desired to inform that this matter does not relate to the chairperson, National Advisory Council," said a letter written by Dhiraj Srivastava, private secretary to NAC chairperson, while replying to a legal notice from Kolkata-based NGO India's Smile.

The activists had issued a legal notice to NAC demanding declassification of all documents, including top-secret files, relating to Netaji so that the mystery surrounding his disappearance could be solved.

They have also filed a PIL in the Division Bench of Calcutta High Court. It is expected to come up before the Bench comprising Chief justice Arun Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi tomorrow.

The Prime Minister's Office had earlier refused to furnish data on documents and records it held on Netaji's disappearance, saying the disclosure would harm India's relations with foreign countries. The petition demands a judicial review on whether the documents should remain secret in public interest.

When under house arrest by the Britishers, Netaji had escaped from India in 1941 to seek international support for the country's freedom struggle. After organising the Indian National Army with Japanese help he went missing in 1945.

He was last seen at the Bangkok Airport on 17th August 1945.

The Mukherjee Commission had rejected the opinion that he died in a plane crash in Taiwan on August 18, 1945.

So the thread is about nothing?

Well.. it's about something! Thread title should give you a clue! ;)

In all seriousness... there has been innumerable amount of speculations, lot of theories & lot of debates regarding his death. It's not all hearsay! & also there have been considerable amount of speculations with regard to state being complicit in his exit. Hence the question...

But I didn't find much info on the title.

Why no declassification of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose files?

You need to understand that this is the most guarded secret in South-Asia, I donno whats there in those files, But am sure that the contents of those files will result in a huge public out-cry and a huge blot on the Indian National Congress.

What will de classification achieve today? Nothing!!!!
IMHO it has nothing to do with todays India.

True. But it's our duty to make sure that history records the deeds of a person who fought for his country.

And we need to know about Nehru's role in it all. Since, His descendants are still ruling the country using his name.

let me give a couple of examples from a bit modern day situations.

One can fight for a country by using war lordism aka Talib-arbarians
or
one can fight using non-violence like Mandela

What style / approach do you think Neta Ji was using?

p.s. in either case, files must be declassified now considering the military related info is pretty much historic and not applicable anymore. No one can use this info militarily. So the files should be given to the public.

It's very much relevant even for today's India my friend. Netaji is not a forgotten character of yesteryear! He was very much part of Indian struggle & Indian history books. He is still very much respected & revered figure for Indians. Indians ought have the right to know the truth! There are lot of Indians out there who wants to know the truth. It's same like a recent declassification of British secret files. Ofcourse it's going to ruffle more feathers, even then people have the right to know the truth behind an incident of this magnitude!

His role as per modern day history books may be more of romantic rather than being correct in political or military perspectives.

Netaji didn't kill innocent civilians like taliban, He created his own army with the help of foreign powers and then fought an open-war against the British.

obviously it wasn't non violent but comparing their struggle with the likes of Taliban is ridiculous although their allies(Japanese) had similar barbarian instincts like Taliban
