Wankhede chosen for a Sachin special: Lorgat

people should treat that statement by ICC chief with a pinch of salt. Mumbai is the home of indian cricket just like lords for english cricket & wembley for english football. it's only appropriate final is played in Bombay!!

He could have given some better reason than all those assumptions that he made to justify the venue. Any ways the guy gave a stupid statement and we expect him to come up with something better next time.:)

Nothing stupid because considering the price of a single ticket, they need to come up with sort of thing.

Well even without that stupid statement people would have come to watch that match. The thing is as I said he is assuming too much and that makes him stupid.:)

something fishy here!!!!!!!!!!111111

means india gonna play final

Well I don't think so. Even though the very "capable" ICC chief himself is hell bend on making ICC's biggest tournament fishy but I don't think their is anything fishy till now except one or two matches. :)

Not many would come if they price the tickets at 25K an 30K each. Sitting in Pakistan and hearing the name Sachin may seem stupid to you and it is rather natural, but being in Mumbai and enquiring about the ticket every day it makes perfect commercial sense to a whole lot of us.

Actually thinking about it - Sachin deserves it. After all legends are born, not made.

seems like he is representing indian not ICC seems like he is writting script himself and he is anti against all teams and just want tendulkar to score hundred in wenkade thats why they kept final in mumbai im not against final in mumbai but think tank of lorgat is scary for other nations becoz he is not ICC CEO let him be bcci ceo if than he aska i have no probleum with him but being a icc chief his good will should lies with all teams not alone india

Ahmedabad: ICC chief Haroon Lorgat defended the decision to stage the World Cup final in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, saying it would provide the perfect setting for the city's favourite son Sachin Tendulkar to script a "fairytale" ending.

Choosing the arena for the finale raised a few eyebrows amid growing frustration for shortage of tickets as the 33,442-seater stadium has the second lowest capacity out of the eight Indian venues hosting matches during the six-week tournament.

While Kolkata's revamped Eden Gardens could hold almost 60,000 fans, Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla and Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel grounds have around 50,000 seats but all of them were overlooked for the April 2 final.

"You know you have got choices to make," International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Lorgat told reporters on Wednesday.

"Can you imagine a (more) fairytale ending with Sachin Tendulkar getting a hundred in the final and India winning at the Wankhede which is his home ground?

"And no matter what the number (of seats), we do not have sufficient tickets."

Fans, seeking tickets, have regularly clashed with baton-wielding police in the subcontinent bringing the tournament on the verge of being a public-relations disaster.

The violence forced the organisers to shelve plans of selling some tickets for the final through box offices.

Lorgat said the organisers simply did not have the means to satisfy the ticketing demands of a cricket-loving country that boasts a billion plus population.

"Attendances have been phenomenal. We expect that from the quarter-final stages every single seat in the house will be sold," Lorgat said.

"It's an unfortunate reality that it's a finite sum of tickets and there is huge demand for it."

Demand of tickets for matches featuring the three co-hosts, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, have far exceeded supply.

Last month the official online ticket website crashed due to 10 million people chasing just 1,000 tickets for the final.

There have also been reports in the local media about allegations of black marketing of tickets while people waited in in long queues.

About 200 people shouted slogans and displayed placards against the local organisers outside the Sardar Patel Stadium -- which will host the India v Australia quarter-final on Thursday -- alleging mismanagement of tickets and black marketing.

"We simply don't tolerate black marketing of tickets and where we have found those instances we have certainly taken action," the top ICC executive said.

"In certain instances there have been arrests. We do alert police and other officials to ensure that does not happen."

The tournament has been a learning point for the ICC and the governing body will look at ways to handle the ticketing issues better in the future, the chief executive said.

"There is always a better way of doing certain things and there are few lessons that we can learn from it," Lorgat said.

"But the fact is that the demand has been absolutely phenomenal and no matter how well we tried we could not fit in the demand into the supply that we have got."

Wankhede chosen for a Sachin special: Lorgat
Two things comes to my mind:-

1.Sachin would not be playing his fairytale innings at Wankhade coz his Fairy tale and also his career in one days will be ended by Pakistan at Mohali.
2.If even one percent of this news is true then this world cup has been fixed by none other than BCCI itself for Sachin's fairy tale innings. So if(thats BIG IF) india reaches final then its all well be proven that this tournament is fixed.

Again this isn't about Sachin or how great he is. The thing is giving such statements and that too by the ICC chief himself is a bit absurd. That's why I call it stupid. It is a final of ICC wc and people would love to come to watch this match anyways even without this pathetic statement. What this knucklehead did is he created doubts and suspicions about the WC's and ICC's credibility by giving such stupid statements. Even in this thread people are raising doubts that this WC is fixed and all those things thanks to Mr Haroon. With such type of ICC chief one can never expect cricket to prosper and become popular.:)

mumbai is the heart of Indian cricket.....

where Lorgat thinks england would be hosting the final , at Lords or at queensland..?

False analogy all together. In India, final could be held at Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, etc. Whereas in England, Lord's is a unique ground. The statements sounds too fishy to be honest.

Well Well Well, If he had chosen it for Sachin than he should now look for new venue, cuz final would be Pakistan vs Srilanka.Inshallah

They should choose Rawalpindi or Colombo now.:pakistan:
