Vikramaditya aircraft carrier to Start Sea Trials in May

You are absolutely correct. Other than aircratf carriers, Russia can build everything else. Let me share with you what Chinese military commentators think as to why the overhaul takes so long. In their opinion Russia is making great use of this oppotunity to re-learn how to build them in the future. The whole project helps to build facilities, train designers, engineers, and workers. In other words, Russia goes to school with its tuition paid by India.

No doubt on that, they lost some knowledge and facilities in the fall of the Soviet Union and now has to build it up again, the long time they needed to modify the Gorshkov is for sure a proof for that and that they are learning again. Another proof is, that they went for French Mistral class LHDs, build under licence instead of developing similar vessels on their own. On the one side, they also use the advantage of an open European defence market here, but they opted for the costly deal, which includes licence production under ToT because they need to get these know how again.
We pay for their learning curve, their operational capability and even fund further developments for them, but the outcome is very favourable for us as well, because for Russia we are not only a source of money (they could have the same from China as well), but the only reliable partner for further developments and politically India is a key for them as well, be it to western countries or to Asian. So it's a mutual relation where both sides have things to offer, what the other one needs!

That's what I thought as well, it would have freed more space on deck for additional aircrafts. For the size of the carrier, it handles not many aircrafts, but for the limited roles of sea control mainly, the carrier will be suitable enough.

there will be more space for aircrafts.

You mean in the front, but that depends on the final location of the take off positions. If it's like this:

...the simultaneous take off and landing would not be possible like Dash mentioned. But if it is more similar to the Admiral Kuznetsov class, the front of the island would be used for 1 take off position:

Also keep in mind that there are no helicopters in these Vikramaditya models, but ASW and AEW aircrafts are normally parked around the island as well. That's why Dash and I said, a smaller island would have given some more space for fighters or helicopters.

At 3:25 you can see Mig 29K taking off from Admiral Kuznetsov carriers rear take off position, at 3:40 from the forward position

Fair enough...if you guys consider that it's win-win deal

Of course it is, we only lose money, but highly benefit in terms of getting high end weapons and techs like FGFA, MRTA, Brahmos, Chakra SSN and even the INS Vikramaditya, which we couldn't have got from other nations, nor would have been able to develop alone at the same time. That increases our military and improves our defence industry, so as long we have the money I don't see a problem.

Not just in front but from other side as well

That's not the Vikramaditya model, but of Admiral Kuznetsov and as you can see the island is much smaller!

thats not Kuznetsov actually, and i just showed how aircrafts can be placed. same layout will be available. the deck was increased on Gorshkov.

Indian Inspectors Satisfied With INS Vikramaditya Construction Progress | marine insight

As a result of inspection held by Indian officers, the parties signed a bilateral protocol and numerous appendixes outlining main preparatory activities for the carrier’s sea trials to start on May 25. Despite some delay in general schedule, Indian partners expressed satisfaction with the ship’s current condition and confidence that sea trials would start in due time. Sevmash shipwrights will face a difficult period soon, i.e. to conduct full-scale trials of the carrier and her air-technical means with test landings on the flight deck within the short polar summer. Delivery date of INS Vikramaditya remains unchanged – December 4, 2012.

Please compare your own pics and you will see that not only the deck is increased (which btw is not the case on the real Vikramaditya as you can see on the pics that Roybot posted earlier), but that the island is much smaller that of the Vikramaditya. So no matter which model this is, it has nothing to do with the real INS Vikramaditya.

BTW how many fighter planes can be stationed on INS Viramaditya ???
