What's new

Vietnam ordered stealth destroyers P28 of India

As of now,it's all mere speculations, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Are you sure about the P 15B armament assortment??
I saw a picture from Defexpo 2016.
Picture of specifications of P15B.

You mean a spec board,great!!I wish you could have taken a snap of it.But anyway,thanks m8. :)
I didn't go to Defexpo, I just saw pictures by others.

I see other things at the lower side of the truck launcher that takes space and that's only part of the truck launcher, that makes it less than 2.5 m for sure, but again, I use your other pic of the VLS at the trade show and I measured the difference and I come up with almost 2 m. That pic is at the right angle to measure, so its easy.
Sure, ignore that there are 4 missiles to the width of the of the frame that fits the truck.

Vietnamese ships use 76 mm guns. We can keep debating for ever, but we will not know for sure unless we have the measurements of that area of the ship, so lets agree that s possible, but can't confirm, shall we?

In this image, the gun ia a 100mm.

The whole point was - as far as I'm concerned - that it is not a given that Barak-8 and Brahmos will fit as simple drop-in units, as some here seem to assume more or less blindly. If it can be made to fit but only after a rather substantial redesign, then it may not be cost-effective and/or a viable commercial proposition. And such alterations do not necessarily make for a good ship.

The deck footprint of RBU-6000 is 2m x 1.75m, from what I gather (the square).

Personally, I think the Barak-8 launcher has a larger footprint compared to the RBU

Here, you can see Barak-8 has folding winglets. The missile body is 22.5cm. (For comparison, if I spread my hand out and measure from tip of pink to tip of thumb, that's 24 cm). If you look at where the wings fold though, that is some distance out from the missile body. Hence a 54cm quote for the canister inner diameter. Largest wingspan is 94 cm (overall).

Hmmmm............but the board doesn't specify the numbers of the aforementioned weapons.
4 BrahMos VLS = 32 BrahMos
127mm gun will be there.
I don't know about other weapons.

I can't open your link.
Look again at the 2 pictures that you posted about the naval VLS for Barak 8, both pictures show the missile emerging from the canister, one pic shows the whole length of the missile, so you can easily see that there is nothing else other than the regular diameter of the missile plus some empty space around it, I think that's clear enough, the wings fold. The truck mounted VLS is not the one that will go in the P28, so lets stick to the naval VLS, and anyway, we already know that India is going to install the Barak 8 there, so that confirms that it fits, so what's the point to keep discussing it? There is no evidence that such installation requires a modification of the ship.

I understand you man and I totally respect your opinion that its not a given that the Brahmos VLS can fit in the P28 deck area where the RBU6000s are now. I think it probably fits, you think it might not, that's fine. Since we don't have the measurements, neither one of us can confirm who is right.

That should be something like Source: https://defence.pk/threads/vietnam-...ers-p28-of-india.428137/page-11#ixzz47iTHl9T5

Ok, I'll try that, but I was just comparing the pictures of the naval and truck based VLS systems and it seems to me that the truck mounted VLS has more space between canisters, so that would account for the difference that we are seeing.

I finally got the picture, but it really doesn't change anything. We have the 22.5 cm diameter of the missile, that's the part that we know, that's the reference that can be used to measure the length of the VLS and that would be an accurate measurement since the angle of the VLS picture is just right for that. That gives a 2 meter length for the VLS. The horizontal stripe along the length of the missile fits into the empty space in the canister that surrounds the missile. It does not change the measurement of the VLS. That strip seems to be about 1 cm thick max, so if they need to be added to the total dimensions, that's just about 8 cm for the 4 missiles, not much difference.

You sure bout that??

What about the mini-BRAHMOS?

Concept-wise, it is very attractive. But, so many developments are taking place and hence we are not able to come up with a definitive plan. It is much smaller in size and range is quite good and it can be launched from several platforms. An aircraft can carry two or three BRAHMOS-Mini. It can go into torpedo tubes and smaller ships can use them too. Even a missile boat can carry it. It is miniaturization of the missile and its range will not be affected and it will go the full distance in the ideal trajectory. But in other trajectories, it may reduce. We have not started the program and it is too early to discuss it. But it is one of the business prospects.

Brahmos-M (I think its called NG now) would be very useful for the Vietnamese air force, carrying 3 of them in a SU-30MK2 would be great.
