ISPR PRESS RELEASE – 22/2019

Rawalpindi, 17th January 2019:

US delegation headed by H.E Mr Zalmay Khalilzad, General Austin Scott Miller, Commander Resolute Support Mission met COAS at GHQ. Regional security environment and Afghan peace and reconciliation process was discussed. The delegation appreciated Pak’s efforts towards peace process. General Qamar Javed Bajwa reiterated that peace in Afghanistan is important for Pakistan and assured continued efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region.
Ms Lisa Curtis, Deputy Assistant to US President & senior director for South and Central Asia and US charge d’ affairs to Pakistan were also present.

How it unfolds has a direct impact on Pakistan and whether the war spills over or if we can contain it if the need arises. If there is a rapid withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan Pakistan needs to do it's calculations, who to support, to what extent and the consequences. Do we just shut the stable door or peer inside to see what the Indians are doing? In the event of a rapid US pull out there is going to be rapid collapse of Kabul and we need to monitor very carefully what game the pesky Indians play next. Afghanistan friend or foe has a direct bearing on Pakistan and India and the region as a whole. Mad Talibs heading for the Kashmir Valley is our best option.

chips that are falling into place like this, iran will facilitate india in afghanistan or try to as they are a major purchaser of their oil! uncertainty is hanging over everyones head because of the unknown but I will say this much. we are seeing an explosion in violence because we are entering the final act in this play. india is desperate to stay in that country by hook or crook. As I mentioned before Pakistan should facilitate Turkey into afghanistan like iran will try to peddle india. Pakistan and China are on the same page vis a vis afghanistan that is great. the yanks leaving will be the best thing that can happen, they are NOT architects of peace. They are a hindrance!!
