What's new

Pakistan wants strategic, broad ties, US legislators told

1. India has large trade due to its size, but its lack of diverse industries and exports means its sustainability is questionable.
2. India USED to have diverse strategic interests, but is now having to reset itself after having sat on the fence for ages. The Russians had made subtle noises on this. Japan, Europe or the Arab states can't be a stand-in for a superpower.
3. There is no achilles heel here, you just refer to that term in order to divert attention to the the fact that you are hemmed in by two military powers and need to reach out to the US. The Pakistan/China partnership goes back decades, where as the US/India one is a new thing, after years of non-alignment and your close ties to the Soviets.
4. India actually has towed the US line of a fair few occasions e.g. voting against Iran at the UN, during a time where you supposedly enjoyed close ties, something the Iranians never forgot. Crucial litmus tests are coming e.g. your S-400 deal and impending US sanctions. Let's see how it pans out. I will however give you that i.e. Pakistan has been far more accommodating though than India.

Your analogy after is plain silly. Pakistan already refused access to the US military for base use, something which they desperately lobbied for. There's two way chasing going on here.

I will tackle each point seperately

1. Indian GDP strength being driven by massive middl;e class of 300 million or 400 million home market is actual strength NOT weakness......... This is why indian GDP growth is consistent because what happens in mideast or USA or Europe does nt overly effect Indian GDP ......... i Agree a $3 trillion GDP is massive numbers and yet exports are onnlt $350 billion a year but this excludes the huge $120 billion a year india makes from IT service industry.

2. Russia in indian eyes is not super power a GDP of half indian.s size means we needed USA . The only 2 super powers are China & USA ....... we chose USA ,..............you pakistanis chose china !!!!!!

4. You pakistanis have made the S400 a massive make or break deal............. DID YOU NOT REALISE that USA have already assured india back door of its intentions over S400 being symbolic only

Here read this as example of india usa alliance ........its deep and has ony just started

India will buy $billions billions of dollars of USA equipment AND get the s400 at the same time

India is essential to QUAD and USA interests in Asia and buffer against China .

Typical "little" indian mentality, you guys have an inferiority complex.

The real politic of the situation is clear. The USA needs Pakistan for overflight access for strikes against any future AQ types or if they need to retake Afghanistan. Plus most USA experts believe the Kabul gov will fail at some point and the USA is hedging its bets.

Pakistan should continue counter terrorism cooperation with USA. It was a mistake of history that both sides did not work together in the 90's against such threats. Both countries could have avoided huge problems. We must learn from our mistakes.

Best to keep India and China out of the conversation and develop a working relationship based on counter terrorism and economic development, IMO.

. .
they want and need nothing from.pakistan..
what possibly can you give them.
they have the largest and most influential power in South Asia in quad.
which part of every usa president flys over pakistan straight to new,Delhi do you find difficult to understand.
they are not remotely interested be it Trump Clinton bush Obama they all paid state visits,to India .why
it was China or usa,. they ditched, you ..
you went running to China
you can't have both
What USA needs, India can simply not provide (access to Afghanistan for counter terrorism) or already has rejected (sending troops to Afghanistan).

Most of what SMQ said is nice nice talk. Pakistan is in the China camp. However, the USA and Pakistan will develop some sort of working relationship for counter terrorism, IMO.

Good development, but couldn't a FM meeting have been held with Blinken...

Unless the US can help resolve the Kashmir question without provoking Palestine type bloodshed then not much use in any relationship.

Being ravaged by the Indian constantly mutating CIVID and the Chinese constantly resurgent land grabs, does India have also got something to say?!??

Already they are being kicked out from Iran, and come 9/11 Afganistan will be like a no man’s land for them. Pak is constantly consolidating her gains - both in geopolitical and geoeconomics terms - to start afresh on Kashmir much earlier than India is ready for it....

It’s just the beginning of the end for India....

*The Turkish technologically advanced defense products will come handy for Kashmir. Recently they’re showing great success in the Northern Irak, Libya, the East Med etc. in the similar geographic domains (high mountains, barren deserts, sea coasts etc.) against the best the West and the East can offer.

But US does not need Pakistan. As far as the US is concerned, Indian market is much more lucrative than Pakistani market.

with security situation worsening on all three borders, political turmoil in Pakistan, religious extremist running wild, Corrupt mafia is mocking the government, Judicial system failed to convict corrupt mafia and recover stolen money, and incompetent people in bureaucracy and government, it will take a miracle to see any significant improvements in Pakistani economy in near future. Foreign Countries and companies won’t take a chance with their investment with so much uncertainty.

Wrong sighted view. If USA can help grow our economy then we can be in a better position to solve our problems.

They haven't been able to do it in the last 72 Years what makes you think they will do it now? Also the US always end up causing a coup or regime change.

.
The Brits could have easily resolved Kashmir in 1947. Why didn't they?

It was a mistake for many Pakistani to think that USA could resolve Kashmir issue for so many years. Strengthen yourself and resolve the issue on your own. That should have been the goal since 47.

If America starts seeing and dealing with Pakistan without the lens of Afghanistan, it will be huge. Since 9/11 All American Presidents see and made Pakistan Policy from the lens of Afghanistan and its peace Process, now The Afghan war is coming to an end (Hopefully) so this is the time to sit down and re-examine the Pakistan policy from Washington.

What pak wants is a balance between the two. Both should get routes for investment, trade, economic corporation etc. In the end its good for pak. We dont want USA to start fucking with CPEC.
USA cannot find with CPEC or China will f with USA

America will always pick India over Pakistan
