They will hold their ground because they are the legitimate military force in that territory. Crimea is part of the The Ukraine, and the United States does not recognize Crimea as being an independent state nor will it recognize Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.

They will hold their ground. Because we're coming.

The region will polarize to NATO's court now. There have been talks of Sweden now joining NATO as well as the bolstered NATO force that will start military war games in Lithuania to the border of Russia this month. Around 15,000 NATO forces and Naval, Air Forces will be sent there, in addition the participation of Sweden's Forces, which is not normally part of NATO, as a contingnent of the Nordic Battle Group.

Russian Federation has isolated itself , and Moscow's foray into Crimea will be utilized as pretext for Baltic, Nordic states in addition to major NATO partners to greatly increase defense expenditure to contain Russia and quash it when the time comes.

The long term strategic consequences....will be to OUR favor.

:)

If they are the legitimate military force, then this is not what they are supposed to do when foreigners invade - they are supposed to defend the territory, not barricade themselves on the second floor. That's not what 'holding ground' means. It means preventing territory from falling into enemy hands, not locking themselves up and hoping that a saviour arrives before the Russians knock down the door.

P.S - What the US does or doesn't recognize doesn't really matter in this case. It is happening in Russia's backyard, and there is little that the US can or will do. USA is not coming, except if by ''coming'' you mean a few useless sanctions on low ranking govt officials.

Fresh report from the local authorities,waiting for more news:

Sniper fire in Simferopol kills 1 member of the Russian "Self Defence Force" and wounds another.

So,the first invader dropped by the ukrainian patriots.Congrats to the brave sniper.

RIP to the ukrainian soldier killed at the base.

Das vedanya to the dead Ruskie. Good job to our Ukrainian friends. :)

About time for them to fight for their land.Even if these are isolated incidents i congratulate the brave few who take a stand.

From what i'm reading the incident is confirmed.Sniper fire from an abandoned house towards the russians.

UPDATE:

Yatseniuk said he had ordered Ukraine's defense minister to call a meeting with his counterparts from Britain, France, and Russia - signatories to a 1994 treaty guaranteeing Ukraine's borders to "prevent an escalation of the conflict".

@flamer84 ,

Thats right. Its about time they defend it militarily and according to the statue of limitations, the Russians are at fault. They precipitated the event, in clear violation of the binding contract that states the Russian Federation will respect the territorial integrity of the Ukraine.

This is the attitude which creates the hatred for US. Why should anyone look for the recognition from US and not International community?

@Kloitra ,

Because we are the United States of America. And we are NATO. :)

The 6th Fleet has been placed on high alert. There is battle group already in the Black Sea Fleet in an undisclosed location. :)

Talking about hypocrites,Russia blabbers on about Kosovo this,Kosovo that but guess what ? Russia didn't recognise Kosovo and called it illegal !! Inconsistent much ?

How much food and water do they have left?
With Russian troops literally at the doorstep, I doubt if food and water management is on their minds at the moment.

And they are Russia, not Iraq or Afghanistan.:wave:

You may want to be hawkish according to your forum name, but you have to accept the reality - USA/NATO are not going to enter into a direct conflict with Russia for Crimea, or even for Ukraine as a whole. Cost benefit analysis and all that.
