U.S. to issue new Iran sanctions, opening shot in get-tough strategy: sources

U.S. sends Navy destroyer to patrol off Yemen amid Iran tensions: officials

The United States has sent a Navy destroyer to patrol off the coast of Yemen to protect waterways from Houthi militia aligned with Iran, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Friday, amid heightened tension between Washington and Tehran.

The USS Cole arrived in the vicinity of the Bab al-Mandab Strait off southwestern Yemen where it will carry out patrols, including escorting vessels, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

In 2000, the USS Cole was attacked when al Qaeda bombers steered a boat full of explosives into the side of the American warship while it refueled in the Yemini port of Aden, killing 17 U.S. sailors and wounding about three dozen others.

While U.S. military vessels have carried out routine operations in the region in the past, this movement, first reported by Reuters, is part of an increased presence there aimed at protecting shipping from the Houthis, the officials said.

The Houthis are allied to Iran, which is at odds with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. The country recently test launched a ballistic missile.

Trump said on Thursday “nothing is off the table” in dealing with Iran, a day after his national security adviser, Michael Flynn said he was putting Iran “on notice.”

The officials said the decision to move the USS Cole was made before the most recent comments.

Earlier this week, the armed Houthi movement attacked a Saudi warship off the western coast of Yemen, causing an explosion that killed two crew members.

That incident was part of an escalation in combat on Yemen's western coast between the militia and the coalition backing the country's internationally recognized government.

Last October, the U.S. military launched cruise missile strikes to knock out three coastal radars located in areas of Yemen controlled by Houthi forces, retaliating after failed missile attacks on another U.S. destroyer, the USS Mason.

Tensions with Iran increased further on Friday when the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions on 13 people and 12 entities under U.S. Iran sanctions authority.

Trump is quickly becoming an embarrassing enigma for us Americans regarding certain issues (He has many points and ideas that I agree with).

But behaving this agrrssively to Iran with almost no real threat coming from Iran is just selling out. Trump quite literally is Netanyahu's and Israelis mouthpiece in the sit of the presidents chair.

God, this is just shameful.

Iran is the 'biggest' threat for israel.

Egypt is completly foiled for decades. Smaller threats like Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen got finished but Iran is still standing.

I've been saying this for a while too.

America doesn't have the guts to invade a country that can actually hit back (against the American Mainland in particular).

Which is why i would someday prefer my country to test an ICBM and a full spectrum nuclear capability with an assured second strike capability.

WE should leave Israel and Palestinian to themselves to sort out their problem, it's not our problem we've our own problems to solve. I don't get it why we have to keep defending Palestinians, what's in it for us besides trouble?! let other Arab countries ( whom are US allies) in the region defend them.

That's also my line of thinking as well. If you're constantly being called by derogatory names you might as well cut the cord and go for it. enough dancing around the matter. I really would love to know what percentage of population within Iran would support building nukes? I bet trump is only boosting that sentiment with his actions.
Would you believe me if I say 99% if not 100%

As if Iran even needs nukes.

I would love to see Trump even try and take action.

The US may have a successful military victory against Iran, but good luck holding that place down.

If you thought Vietnam was bad, welcome to Persia.

The US is bound to fail.

I love how they tie everything to Iran even if Iran has nothing to do with them. Another country has used a missile built by another country and has hit the frigate of another country and all of a sudden Iran's leg has been pulled into this.

It seems without Iran, the US would've no foreign policy, 99% of their foreign policy is about Iran. It seems they even dream of Iran when they sleep. Bunch of creepy senile white supremacist crusaders are running the white house.

I have no problem with Iran going for nukes, any country in the crosshairs of Zio'Murica should go for nukes. But don't expect the world governments to look at it favorably, even friendly countries like Russia and China will be against it. Superpowers don't want anyone else but themselves to possess nukes, so Iran will be looking at a period of struggle from international sanctions. Ride through this rough period, but it's the only guarantee to not being turned into another Iraq/Libya.

As for the North Koreans, I would argue that the insane Kim regime serves US imperialist interest. They are absolutely no threat to the US, and Japan/South Korea safety is not really a concern for Yanks, it's all about China. All the yanks have to do is poke the porky a bit and they'll issue some crazy statement about flattening Seoul and wiping out the entire US west coast. They are a perfect Hollywood villain, and gives the US a reason to heavily millitarize Asia to surround China. The whole THAAD missile defence is supposed to intercept NK missiles but their real reason are Chinese missiles.

Very similar reason US installed ABM system in EU to counter the so called " Iranian missile threat" but everybody know is about limiting Russian strike capability same scenario goes for THAAD in South Korea is all about limiting China's power.

I've been saying this for a while too.

America doesn't have the guts to invade a country that can actually hit back (against the American Mainland in particular).

See how they run around crying their heads off about an undeveloped country like North Korea.

America only likes to fight when the other side can't fight back. It's like an adult (superpower) who only has the guts to fight against a baby. When a toddler comes along (undeveloped country like North Korea) the USA runs away crying.

I was saying this for ages ...

but what today my heart was broken , some of gutless people in response of USA banning Iranian from entering USA , asked from FM to let American citizen to come to Iran without any passport !!!

its not about nuclear program or missles , some people asked to disbanding Army and was saying that our region MIDDLE EAST is safe and we don't need army ...
