What's new

Type056 Corvette Handed Over to Bangladesh Navy

you need more of them when you are starting to expand your fleets

How about offering help us? I know you guys have built a decent industry...maybe...some JV with PT PAL and KSY?

1. as I said it includes TOT cost and it always includes weapons package
2. C13B probably has VDS anti sub system because if it does not have sub detecting thing then what is the purpose of having rocket launchers for anti-sub mission ?

No VDS yet...:(, from what they say they have the option on the next batch. No TOT yet either, KSY is too busy with Durjoy, and CSY has just gone through minor upgrades.

actually for oiler and replenishment ships our government ordered them from private owned shipyard like Daya Radar Utama, Citra Shipyard, Kodja Shipyard Maritime Engineering and so on. So we can freeing up PT PAL for warship building

Yes we have similar yards, Western Marine, Ananda etc that build bulk carriers for export. But we don't get contracts for large navy projects from the government, these will go to public/navy managed yards like KSY.

I would love to get PT PAL and PT Lundin to help setup a marine design centre in Bangladesh with KSY or even Western Marine....

China also has type 56 with no anti sub capabilities. These ships are highly customization, but the true purpose of it is how cheap it is to build.

If you need a bigger, more capable ship? We have those too, this is a ship that would allow you to field a vast number of them and in a pinch, can do a little bit of everything. Since 2011, China has already built 32 of them for ourselves, so 36 in total?.

Some people like to compare the capabilities of this ship with this that and the other one, but the true capability of the ship is that it exist in great numbers. Not a sexy feature, but it is the most useful feature in my opinion. Can't project force with the idea of a ship.

the idea of cheap, not sexy, work horse combat escort duty warship like type 056 is had been known since WW II with the concept of destroyer escort or Kaibokan in IJN.

The concept being abandoned for a while though with the large Navy (like USN, UK, JMSDF and France) after the end of Cold War to realign themselves into restructuring and downsizing programme especially in terms of manpower, hence they will prefer a larger and sophisticated ships to maximizing their manpower number.

It's older than that, it's not a particularly difficult concept. It works if done right.

Different time, different objective, and different situation. The US faces no enemies or annoyances in its immediate neighborhood, and thus the need for these things are not as apparent. The US is a global navy looking to take on all comers, and thus smaller ships are not going to be needed.

China has disputes in our immediate neighborhood, we can't send a destroyer or frigate every time something happens, it's not economical and can escalate a situation. There's also pirates, illegal fishing, and a whole lot of things that China needs to keep an eye on.

The presence of Type 056 has kept the Vietnamese coast guard, navy mostly in check during our stand off. Had it been a type 054, it may not have ended as well for China internationally. This way, it was brushed aside after a news cycle.

Bangladesh and Indonesia faces the same problem here, especially Indonesia. You have too much maritime territory, you can't sent a frigate every time a pirate with an AK-47 gets on the radar. Have these cheaper ships do the dirty work.

Essentially a second more powerful coast guard.

we are developing this kind of boats too, to deal with usual daily duties, for patrol, escort and so on.

I think he made a mistake. He should have referred not to the rifle, but the bullet.

The bullet as well.

INSAS has its own bullet.

One of the bullets MCIWS has to take is being built in house.

Beautiful additions. Will be a boost to our surface warfare capability. However, I am still worried about our ASW capability.

If BN is unwilling to purchase platform with those capabilities, just procure a batch of submarine chasers. Applying the swarming tactic as a stop gap option would achieve its purpose, untill we get better ships with ASW.

Cheers!!!
