Twist in MMRCA

not about the pride it is about there condition
even if they r offering it for less money
it is bst for us to go for rafale or eurofighter

if i am wrong correct me....
as it is a light weight aircraft not of use as we already have 5o + of these and our lca mk2 is better option

I guess you are talking about Price..
Regarding their condition..Be assured they are almost brand new..Some of them are ~10 yrs old..

You are right , we should go for them provided they are available to us by 2013 , and i mean all 80 of them , and also provided they cost not more than 45 Million USD
Then we can retire our crash prone Mig 27 and non bison Mig21
ie 150 mig 21/27 could be replace by these aircrafts , which can serve till 2030

However there are some problems , while Qatar can deliver its 13 Mirage 2005 immediately after signing such a deal , same cannot be said about UAE , which would like to induct rafales first before retiring there 68 Mirage 2009 and that too in a phased manner ie in batches of 16-18 aircrafts spread over 4 yrs starting 2014 , and i am pretty sure that UAE will charge more than 45 Million USD for there aircrafts

Frontrunners for the force are French fighter Dassault Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon built by the European consortium. Bernhard Gerwert, Chief, EADS, says “If you are taking into account the portfolio of EADS we can bring the bridge between civil aviation and military aviation.” But the Americans and Russians have lost out. Boeing’s F18 no longer a frontrunner and Sweden’s Gripen too falling off the Indian radar.

Despite MiG 35s big thunder, its engine failing to impress while the F-16, according to the IAF has no future. Another reason favouring Rafale and Eurofighter is political. Thomas Matussek, German Ambassador, “We regard India as a strategic security partner and this is why we do not insist on an end user monitoring agreement period.” So when the mother of all defence deals is signed for the 126 Multi-Role Combat Aircraft either Rafale or the Eurofighter will fly away with the Rs 42,000 crore deal.

This will be a very bad idea. But i think our political leadership does not care. They just enjoy spending money ignoring CAG. I just have one question, if govt. do decides to go for this purchase : Then why in the gods name, we upgraded mig21 and mig 27 if in the end we decides to replace it and that too with the second hand fighters ??/

in this case i think PAF should have replaced their old mirages with UAE mirages ut dont know why PAF is counting much with one platform JF 17

if 68+12=80 second hand mirage comes immdiatly , the shortage of aircrafts in IAF will be fullfilled and IAF can afford to hang on for another 5-6 years to wait FGFA and MMRCA could be scraped....

i remember qater asked for $67ml for each of those mirage in 2006...

basicallt IAF wont cancel MMRCA after coming so far , it will definately hamper our image in defence world plus if we look at planes which are in interest of IAF are much superior than mirages so IAF definitely wants more advanced planes with TOT through this MMRCA deal
so there is no way this old mirages can REPLACE MMRCA.

we can still buy this 60-80 planes if they have enough life(15-20years) left and coming for a price of 20-25 mmrca birds becuase
1. IAF currently operates mirages so experience in operating them already exists with good maintainance infrastructure hence no extra cost for it
2.this birds can replace all MIG 21 except those with BISON upgrade right away
3. since this planes are already there so there wont be any time wasted in procurement of them once deal is finalised like time needed for construction of aircraft's after ordering them.

but with 80 such second hand mirage , the initial order number for MMRCA could be reduce....

and also initially order for 126+74 was considered for MMRCA so we can JUST keep it to 126.
and it will give good amount of time for OUR TEJAS MK2 to evolve and mature.

with these 80 mirages , the MMRCA figures could reduce to 60+20 , and most probably the MIG-35...

Karan.1970 mentioned, as a stopgap to the MIG-21, these planes fit as a perfect replacement....
If the cost is reasonable....this may not be a bad proposition....

However has anyone considered the timeline for delivery of these?.....
UAE and Qatar will not just let IAF fly away these birds tomorrow....Since these will be replaced by Rafales, there will definitely be a very slow and gradual process in procuring these....

Now the question is, 5-7 years from now, will these plane still be worth their weight?...do they come with any upgrades?....Will the armament be upgraded?....

i think IAF will get them in short time , france has also proposed india to have 40 rafale in flyaway condition from their own inventery so , they can give some 40 odd rafale to UAE...
