I have so much shame right now (about our own R&D gaps), I'm tagging you all to share it.

As always, Pakistan is missing the train with Turkey by not investing in such projects during their early phases, so they can be true partners. It’s not just in the military domain that these sorts of indecision are being made. The same is happening in civilian projects. Turkey is making massive strides in rail technology, electric vehicles, medical technology & other fields. Pakistani decision makers would rather spend billions of dollars each year on unproductive enterprises such as PIA, PSM & Pakistan Railways. Or buy the technology off the shelf.

So pitiful, really. Both the military and civilian leadership has failed Pakistan.

The domestic transmission of the Altay tank is ready to be integrated into the engine

Speaking at the Circle of Mind program on CNN Türk, President of the Turkish Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir also made statements about the power group of the Altay main battle tank.

İsmail Demir explained that the power group, which was decided during the development process, could not be supplied when it came to the mass production process, and that the process was disrupted. In the process of bringing alternatives, which continues in parallel, significant progress has been achieved in the national and domestic power group. İsmail Demir stated that while the 1500 hp engine developed for Altay AMT was going through the test process, the developed transmission is ready to be integrated into the engine. Demir stated that when the power group is ready, the tank will be produced and delivered in less than 18 months. Demir also referred to the talks with Korea and stated that the mass production process could begin with the power group after the signatures were signed.

In the past, it was stated that BMC, the main contractor in the Altay tank mass production project, reached an agreement with two Korean companies to work on the power package of the Altay tank. As announced by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the declaration of intent regarding the supply of Altay Tank engine was signed by the Korean interlocutors. In his statement, Demir stated that one of the alternative countries in the power group is the Republic of Korea and reminded that there was a serious slowdown in the process due to the epidemic. Signatures are expected after the completion of the legal process in Korea. Demir also announced that he plans to meet face-to-face with Korean counterparts in Ankara in February 2022.

A senior official from BMC said that the company signed an agreement with Doosan and S&T Dynamics to supply Altay's engine and transmission mechanism. “These agreements are the result of a strategic understanding between our companies and our countries , ” the official said.



found some interesting news on the domestic transmission Turkey was developing, apparently its set to be integrated and tested in 18 months?

It will be interesting b/c the transmission is probably the hardest part with designing tanks, even the South Koreans are still using a German RENK transmission.

can we get some clarifications on the Turkish turboshaft engines

T625 Gokbey is using LHTEC CTS800 engines

however a home grown engine has been built called TS1400

this engine has been tested on T625 Gokbey and will be used on T129 attack helicopter

T129 also is using the LHTEC CTS800 engines and soon shall use Turkish TS1400 after its been tested and proved on 625 Gokbey

Has TAI got any timeline when the TS1400 will be used on T129, is the first flight expected to be in 2022?

Theoretically yes but practically may be no, certification engine for a heli is a long process and expensive, for limited number like 30 may not be feasible. it is said T129 licence agreement will end in 5-6 years. after that Turkey will go with T629(medium) and T929(heavy) helicopters, for now TSK has 70 T129 and will complete 100+.

so it means no indigenous engine will power T129 for export to Pakistan ?

if US blocks sale of the engine means T129 cannot be exported
