Turkish Air Defence Programs

The new HISAR-A and HISAR-O air defence missile systems are due to complete testing next year.

Tolga Gungor, lead engineer at Aselsan for low/medium altitude air defence missile systems, told Shephard at IDEF 2017 that subsystems qualification and integration is finished and total systems testing is underway.

He said that HISAR-A autonomous short range (interception out to 15km) missile system completed vertical firing tests in December 2016 and established a datalink with the missile. This followed missile control tests earlier that year.

The medium range (interception out to 25km) HISAR-O system is about a year behind the HISAR-A schedule and is expected to be ready for production in 2019.

For HISAR-A the next step will take place in mid-2017 with a missile firing with the datalink again but also with a seeker on the missile which will see a target – although there will not be an interception. That test is expected in 2018 alongside full system testing, communications, interfaces and scenarios and it is made ready.

HISAR-A is fitted to a tracked chassis from FNSS and has four ready-to-fire missiles and the Gungor said it is equipped with its own radar, C2 and fire control units and also has communication links to higher command. This means a battery of three units can operate away from main force elements and are mobile across rougher terrain to offer air protection in remote areas.

It has a fighter tracking range out to more than 25km using a search radar and IFF, infrared sensors and laser range finder, with data links and firing the vertical launch bi-pulsed air defence missile that has an IR seeker. It is also CBRN capable.

The HISAR-O system however is for air defence for larger groupings and stationary assets. A battery consists of three launcher units, each with six missile launch containers mounted on a Mercedes Zetros 6x6 truck chassis. This launcher can fire both HISAR-O and HISAR-A missiles. Looking for exports, Aselsan has already offered the HISAR-O for Poland's short-medium range air defence programme at MSPO in 2015.

The battery also has a battalion-level Fire Control Centre and C2 unit on a Mercedes Zetros 2733 truck that collects the information from the sensors and the battery level radar in the form of the Kalkan-II mobile medium altitude X-band 3D air defence radar. It provides this to the FCC for firing.

Kalkan-II can track fighters to an altitude of 10km and out to at least 50km with an overall range of 120km and the ability to track multiple targets.

An EOS vehicle is also linked to the FCC for a post firing kill assessment and there is a Tactical Data Link Centre System (TDLCS) vehicle that maintains communications to wider allied forces using Link-16. The battery containing all these vehicles offers a integrated air defence picture in excess of what the Turkish Army has at present in its KMS very short range system.

Aselsan is the prime contractor for the system working with Turkish industrial partners to provide all the subsystems that it is responsible for integrating and delivering the final product for military acceptance. The company was contracted in 2011 although there had been development work prior to this.

ASELSAN Lazer Savunma Sistemi LSS

The Laser Defense System (LSS) is used for threats of up to 500 meters range,
mini and micro UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) / IME (unmanned aerial vehicle) / IDA (unmanned aerial vehicle), camouflages used by resident terrorist elements and EYP (handmade explosive) It is an improved system against suspicious packages on the road side.

With its successful performance in the tests, the Laser Defense System, which makes the unmanned aerial instrument ineffective by the laser, will be eliminated with high sensitivity and short time.

The system consists of a fiber laser source with high laser output power, a focus / focus controller, an infrared / day camera, a laser rangefinder, a steering unit, associated power / control electronics, software, cooling and power generation / storage subcomponents.

The system consists of fiber laser source (ASELFİBER family product group), Focus Variable Firing Controller (ODAK), infrared / day camera (MRLR), routing unit and all related mechatronics, software, hardware designs and productions ASELSAN Signature. ASELFİBER family product group is working as a high efficiency laser source in 1 micrometer wavelength band.

The FOCUS was designed on an architecture that can be quickly adjusted autonomously over 1 kilometer from 50 meters.

Priority areas of use are ship platforms, power plants, airports, border police stations, headquarters buildings and convoy transit routes.

How long after the focus is can it damage anybody know?

Microwave would cook their organs, it could get attention from international human right organisations. But they cannot complain about low energy 1kw lasers which would burn only their skins (or make them blind) :P

Remember , in the Gulf war USA used microwave emitters against Saddams soldiers in bunker complexes they had severe burnings and surrendered.

HİSAR-O RF develops a domesticiASTER 30 comparable system -U version develops also parallely.
The current X-band Kalkan II can detect aircrafts from 120 km and small targets from 40 km distance.
In the next 3-4 years i S-band EIRS radar system will be added and active,
the land based version of CAFRAD with detecting and tracking BMs.
ASELSAN says open we are capable and have the technology. There are no obstacles that all will be realized soon if Roketsan can icrease the range of its guided missiles asap too. Except for urgent needs there is no reason for ready purchase, it is possible that we can activate our systems in max. 4 years. Despite to Aselsan Roketsan people are very secretive , behave like men in black and constructing galactical vessels. That's the reason that information on their systems are very limited and depend on sources from other companies and some insiders from Turkish Armed Forces.

Superior protection to shorelines Egean, Mediterranean, Blacksea.

- 2500 - 3000 m/s speed
- 300 km range
- Hidden munitions, power supply's.
- Bullet size depends on railsize. It's changeable. 155 mm possible.
- Unmoving means uncomplicated which could be more prefered.
- Missiles make no chance.

This is the way you deterre other countries from provocating you. Nobody is gonna try to **** with you when your army is beefed up and can flatten them in a matter of days.
