What's new

This is the language most Pakistanis want to learn

Sure but the question still remains. If Chinese language can be taught in centres why can't online ? I mentioned some popular learning programs and they teach Mandrin and Cantonese.
...Have you ever tried to learn any of the Chinese languages?

I have tried both Mandarin and Cantonese ...

1 of the major problems is pronunciation:

  • All varieties of Chinese are tonal. This means that each syllable can have a number of different meanings depending on the intonation with which it is pronounced. For example Mandarin has 4 tones, Cantonese has between 6 and 9, and Taiwanese has 7 tones.
Meaning if not pronounced properly are talking rubbish!

If you want to learn to write it- thats another problem...coz they dont have alphabets but characters...

For example sailor has 2 characters - taken individually you will have 1 character meaning water and another hand....

Now you can prob memorize the characters but pronouncing is really a problem esp when you need to get the tones right...Mine sucked I heard myself pronouncing correctly but my teacher always told me I wasnt right

No it wasnt needed. How was it needed?
HE HAD PERFECT SOMEONE UNDER HIS THUMB WITH NO POWER AND YET COMPLETE AUTHORITY OVER REST OF MUSLIM WORLD!!!
And How many nation that void has destroyed and how many are suffering. If He was so great a Leader he should have seen the Importance Of Central LeaderShip Of Muslims.
Nope that wouldve trigfered a new revolt of secular Khalifa and that wouldve resulted in different regions declaring khilafat kufr and invention of new sects

I was just explaining my point why it would be tough to pick it online and actually pronounce it as the locals do....

Sure some might learn it online but it isnt something common coz you need someone to hear you and fix the pronunciation ..I tried my hand at a handful of languages but can only speak 3 :cray:

Doubt this finding. It shows BD's learning spanish. Most people and by people i mean educated middle and upper middle class knows english or wants to learn english. There r 3 categories of school- bengali medium , english medium based on BD curriculum , and English medium based on cambridge/edexcel curriculum. Apart from english , no other foreign language is taught in BD schools. Students also mostly go to english speaking countries for higher education. And this is also the case with PAK if i am not wrong.
man, why would you try to learn English in duolingo... English is taught in school in bd, right?

Perhaps the best way to learn it is to go and visit Deutschland, and find a nice Fraulein to teach you:agree:;)
Ja good advice mein freund :D

Check if pakistan has any goethe institutes ...the ministry of education in germany has these centres in all major cities across the world ...usually , if your city has a german consulate, then the chances are that it will have a goethe institute too...I learnt my german from the Goethe institute in Chennai...and I will vouch that it is the best institute to learn german anywhere in the world
Thanks :)

Your love for Ash increased substantially after she put on some weight.

true. ;)

the programme finished now and white salwar suit mey bhari bhari rapchik lag rahi thi. :agree:

uff, her soft plump arms filling the chikankari sleeves... :smitten:

and her manner of speaking also has changed since she married and became a mother... she is now more mature and more natural-talking and reactions are quite mature... no social awkwardness that even many elderly people have.

all in all

besides, seeing her reminds me of my local object of obsession who's also from mangalore.

Turkic and other Central Asian tribes have been migrating to the wider Indus region for millenia. Even to this day some have maintained a distinct identity (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlugh_Turks), although most have completly merged in with the local populace. Historically Turkic individuals like Qutbudin Aibek (buried in Lahore) and Nasir Uddin Qabacha to name just a few have had a profound impact on Pakistani history.
Then in the modern context, Turkey has been a country very close to Pakistan and we share a mutual respect for each other. So it shouldnt be that surprising if some Pakistanis do actually want to learn Turkish for this reason.

you mention qutbuddin aibak and his tomb in lahore but you do not mention qutb minar that he got built in delhi and that he ruled from delhi?? :)

and you should have looked at my previous mentioning of razia sultan who died a few decades after aibak and was entombed in delhi.

khair, i reject the partition of india so i decline to participate in this india-pakistan our-history/your-history silliness, so allow me to withdraw from this thread.

but like i said before if pakistanis want to emulate something from modern turkey it should be the turkish progressive/socialist movements like dhkp-c... anything reactionary ( like erdogan and his akp ikhwaanis ) must be rejected and made enemies with.

umm, the article is in turkish though there are photographs... will translate the article at leisure.

but must say that this news agency seems to be aligned with erdogan so we must be careful.

Dunno. Maybe try the following

British India ( which spread west from Bharat/Bangladesh )
Moghul Empire ( which spread east from what is now Pakistan )
The Sikh Empire

Since Bharat and Pakistan did not exist before 1947 we have multiple choice here ....

come on, you know that i being a socialist/communist see only futility in these 'nationalisms pulled into history' games, so please excuse me from this kind of discussion. :)

yet the greatest historic leader in south asia was tipu sultan from what then was mysore state in the dakkan and what is now south india... no one like him.

i consider myself among his ideological successors.

that is all. :)

Punjabis should have an easier time learning Mandarin as Punjabi is the only tonal Indo-European language :D. On a serious note, Mandarin is extremely hard to learn. In my experiance the easiest language to learn was Spanish. A lot of its vocabulary bears resemblance to English words (station = estacion, map = mapa etc), and it has borrowed a lot of Arabic words which we have in Pakistan as well (Kamiza = Shirt, Meza = Table etc). I studied it for only one year in college but felt like I learnt more in one year than I did after three years of studying Arabic.

Woh nasal wali tone nai

For me it was German....apart from the gutteral sound most of the words sounded English or derivatives then Italian again a language where you just add a suffix to most English words and add some attitude- viola you get Italian

I found Arabic hard Man that was some headache changing feminine/ masculine and then past/ present and lets not forget the 16 odd he /she /they for 2 they for 2 or more they female only they male and female....Man I forgot most of it now :cray:

Though pronouncing vice I found Mandarin harder than Cantonese....Actually I have problems with the Mandarin tones they have a very thick "err" sounding @Chinese-Dragon is that right?

You know your a affable guy (for a Indian) and your of course aware that I have soft spot for socialists. I think I probably would not be too far off the mark to call socialism the noblest creation of mankind's quest for political utopia. It is without doubt the finest expression of humanity.

There is a very popular French learning programme being run for many years in Peshawar

yes, you have spoken of this.

I think I probably would not be too far off the mark to call socialism the noblest creation of mankind's quest for political utopia. It is without doubt the finest expression of humanity.

fine words, sir, and truth they speak.

and very quotable words, if i may add.

Are you nuts, you support a terrorist organisation?
Do you even know what dhkp-c stands for?
They carried out a number of assassinations and suicide bombings, and are classified as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
Maybe you didnt know that not all who call themselves socialists, are indeed what they claim to be?
Should i support terror groups in India, cause i see you supporting them in Turkiye?
