The Indian MIRV Technology : An Overview

. .
So if Agni-V is MIRVed, have we already tested this technology?

.
No MIRV has NOT been Tested Yet.
But we do have the Building Blocks in Place and India is making Serious Efforts to achieve this tech ASAP.

. .
who knows:cheesy: never mentioned in public by DRDO

If India is testing a weapon, the test date would be leaked the the press even before the final decision is made and the number of people tracking the test of increase the number of people in PDF India section by 10 folds.

Even though I personally would prefer them to be more discrete, what you are saying is not always true.

There have been several cases when India has pulled out a rabbit from the hat, all of a sudden.

What finally matters is the results, not the publicity.

MIRV technology will surely provide an assured second strike capability which will have potential to cause irreparable damage.

no brother, MIRV technology is does not provide assured second strike capability. it only enhances u r chances of striking the the enemy. If u r MIRV missile is land based then it can be taken out in the first nuclear strike.

only a functional TRIAD gives u assured second strike capability and SLBMs are the best proponents of TRIAD. MIRV technology has got lil or no relevance with concept of second strike capability.

Yes, MIRV with SLBM. That is what you need.

Not necessarily ,In early 1990s when Agni-1 was first tested ,late Rajiv Gandhi (then PM) said it was only a technology demonstrator ,today 20 years later we have Agni-III in service.

I understand your point. The thing is, when we have a 5000 km range ballistic missile, it can be launched from practically any site in the country. In case of a nuclear attack, all of our sites cannot be taken out simultaneously. And the MIRV technology will assure a 100% strike success.

That will be more then perfect. But a MIRV will have a large diameter. To accommodate them in SSBNs will need larger submarines with displacement of range 10000 Tonnes (just a random guess) rather than 6000 tonnes in arihant.

I have roomies whose friends work in L&T Hazira. They say the second hull is much larger than the first one. So keep your fingers crossed.
