Syrian Airdefences shot down Turkish plane

The point is, this kind of action is not taken without forethought by any professional military, including Syrian army.

Syrian army, before firing the SAM, did take any possible reaction into account in their assessment. This was a very calculated move. What if Turkey shows no reaction? What if Turkey launches a full scale invasion? All factors were taken into account.

In the same way, unlike some angry Turks here, Erdogan is sane minded. Let's not forget he was bitching about invading Syria not 6 months ago. Now, he knows that Russian tanks would probably roll over to Istanbul if he tries any sort of misadventure.

As you said, humiliation of having one plane shot down is far less than having tanks roll over to Istanbul. Unlike some angry Turks here, Erdogan knows this very well. It would be better if the hot-headed Turks realized this.

Ahh pleaseee, stop with that Russian tanks in Istanbul BS.

No, Syrian army fvcked up big time. They shot the plane while it was flying in international airspace. If this was a calculated move, then the punishment will be swift.

A surveillance plane which was flying solo in international airspace has shot down by Syria and this is a humiliation? GTFO!
Foreign Minister said that the proofs will be shown to international community, and he added, Syrian radio records are contradicting with the Syrian claims about the shooting at an "unknown" plane. And there was no warning from Syria as expected.

So we'll se what is going to happen next, in tuesday.

they have one the four best tanks of the world ....

Yeah best for you Iranians... ahahahaha

Russian tanks are piece of crap . By the way the topic is not about russian junkyard tanks.

This time Assad has eaten his own sh*t ... :enjoy:

US never had war when they were attacked, whether its WW2, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghan, Libya etc, it was only US who bombed on others and others had to defend itself. even during WW2, they won it because they nuclear bombed on the civilians of Japan and when Japanese troops still didnt surrendered, US again dropped nuclear bomb on the civilians of another city of Japan just after 2 days which finally forced the Japanese troops to surrender otherwise US was going to bomb all the cities of Japan by nuclear bombs. even in case of Vietnam, they invaded there and kept fighting with as many as they could kill, as, anyhow people based in US+EU were safe. in case of Iraq, Afghan, Libya also, it was only NATO who bombed and others had to defend themselves. since WW2, NATO's aircrafts never had any real A2A combat with any country.

but this time they will face a new experience. this time they will face with those pilots who are better trained and have equally good 4th gen aircrafts. superior missile defence Russia has with having missile like Brahmos who exceed performance than NATO's missiles. over 20,000 tanks russia has and if Turkey provoke, Russia will put 2000 on Turkey's border, with start bombing on their different cities, which will finally mean by rolling tanks to Istanbul, and hopefully Turkey will then fall in control of Iran. rest, even one missile will hit a prime target of rest of Gulf, these Arabs will have pi$$ed in their pants just after that. losing one aircraft isn't as bad humiliation as compare to being rolled by tanks, the tanks which may then walks till Saudi Arabia also. therefore, they would better forget the things as a bad dream and stop sending terrorists to Syria from now onward

Turkey including other Gulf nations are on the ground attack target from Iran+Russia+Syria, while NATO's troops aren't credible enough for a face to face with heavily armed high tech military like Russia, while Iran itself has more than 1mil active troops with around 1.5 mil in reserve also. can NATO put this big strength in Gulf? no

I can't believe I've spent time responding to this.

A worthless "IRAN/SYRIA/RUSSIA STRONG!!!" post from a guy with no concept of logistics, force projection, history, and a a complete lack of reality.

look on the father of Arab origin Al Qaeda terrorists, how they are using their kids in Syria as below. no wonder Turkey is now talking to their 'NATO allies' on the plane's shot down issue, as, its mainly US who is using Turkey against Syria :agree:

Revealed: CIA secretly operates on Syrian border, supplies arms to rebels

American secret service operatives are distributing illegal assault rifles, anti-tank rocket launchers and other ammunition to Syrian opposition, the New York Times reports. But due to some rebels’ links to Al Qaeda, the CIA’s task is precarious.

The paper reports that for weeks now, officers based in southeast Turkey have supervised the flow of illegal arms to numerous opposition factions ready to fight the regime of President Bashar Assad. The only problem is some of the rebel groups have links with terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda, so the CIA mission must be careful not to arm proven terrorists by mistake.

Arms and ammunition are being brought into Syria mainly over the Turkish border with the help of Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood network and other groups, the report says. Expenses are being shared by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The NYT source, an unnamed Arab intelligence official, revealed that American officers are also collecting information on Syrian opposition groups and recruiting informants among their ranks. The source said the Obama administration is considering sharing its intelligence data, such as satellite images and detailed information on the location and maneuvers of Syrian troops.

According to the source, CIA operatives might be helping the rebels with organizing a rudimentary intelligence organization. The CIA agents have reportedly not set foot on Syrian soil, however.

While, it seems, supplying Syrian opposition with arms, the US would like to see Syria’s allies, Russia in the first place, stop supplying weapons to the regime of President Bashar Assad. Washington has expressed concern with Russia performing maintenance of Syrian Mi-25 assault helicopters.

Moscow has consistently denied supplying to Damascus any types of assault weapons that can be used against armed rebels. Russia’s Foreign Ministry says the country has only supplied Syria with defensive capabilities such as anti-air missile systems.

Russia is not violating any international sanctions against Syria, and Moscow has declared it will not cease military cooperation with Damascus.

Prior to the report about CIA officers operating on the Turkish-Syrian border, the Obama administration’s declared policy on the conflict in Syria centered on diplomacy and humanitarian aid. The State Department has reportedly allocated $15 million in medical supplies and communication equipment for armed opposition groups in Syria.

In the meantime it seems the Pentagon is considering various options for interference in the Syrian conflict, including establishing no-fly zones over the country, as was done in Libya a year ago.

American and Israeli generals are also concerned with securing alleged stockpiles of Syrian chemical weapons, the very existence of which has never been proven.

Maybe its Turkey who is using the U.S. Ever thought of that? Why use CIA when Turkey can do it all when they know the culture and terrain.

I think Saudi Arabia and Turkey want to get rid of Al-Assad ASAP but United Sates does not support any hard move because of election year and any prolonged conflict in Syria is in favor of Israel.

The reaction by turkey has been absolutely incredible, in a good way.

Instead of jumping the gun, they wait for investigation findings that where the jet was shot down and whose space was it.

Then Syria is helping Turkey find the pilot, so it's a joint rescue effort.

Good response by both sides, mature by Turkey.

But if indeed the jet was inside Turkey or on international space, then what?

Syria is the only secular country in that region. wife of Mr Assad is British and his kids are studying in Europe and he won't just start killing women and kids so that he may give enough reasons to those who want him to leave, isn't it? its clear that Mr Assad would only try to prove that Syria is peaceful, people are happy, even if he may have to increase attractive subsidies to Syrian civilians also. why would he organize any type of killing of civilians for no reason while he and his family did enough during their long rule over Syria, to guide Syria on the path of higher progress? otherwise have a look on the arms, these Arab terrorist have on their back, can they be talked other than shoot at site? also, CIA has high tech arms and they use tested Arab origin Al Qaeda terrorists, they used since Cold War. is there any way to talk to these terrorists other than shooting them at a distance. see this picture of #521, it was taken by Reuters itself? :meeting:
