Syrian Airdefences shot down Turkish plane

The reaction by turkey has been absolutely incredible, in a good way.

Instead of jumping the gun, they wait for investigation findings that where the jet was shot down and whose space was it.

Then Syria is helping Turkey find the pilot, so it's a joint rescue effort.

Good response by both sides, mature by Turkey.

But if indeed the jet was inside Turkey or on international space, then what?

Bomb the SAM sites. I recommend at least 12 of them in response.

. .
The point is, this kind of action is not taken without forethought by any professional military, including Syrian army.

Syrian army, before firing the SAM, did take any possible reaction into account in their assessment. This was a very calculated move. What if Turkey shows no reaction? What if Turkey launches a full scale invasion? All factors were taken into account.

In the same way, unlike some angry Turks here, Erdogan is sane minded. Let's not forget he was bitching about invading Syria not 6 months ago. Now, he knows that Russian tanks would probably roll over to Istanbul if he tries any sort of misadventure.

As you said, humiliation of having one plane shot down is far less than having tanks roll over to Istanbul. Unlike some angry Turks here, Erdogan knows this very well. It would be better if the hot-headed Turks realized this.

If so, Russia will be fighting a war away from its border. Do you think Russia has the capability to do that especially against Turkey with the NATO firmly behind it? Even Putin will be cringing at Syria's stupidity now.

Turkey can not do anything by itself. Now article 4 of NATO has been invoked by Turkey for "consultation". Syria on its part has not acted alone, it has backing from Russia. Turkish govt in the name of "zero problem" with neighbors policy created enemy with

Israel
Syria
Iraq
Iran (indirectly)
France
Russia (in the making)
China (already annoyed)

Now same Turkish govt by aiding and hosting NATO terrorists staging itself as playground for strategic struggle of bigger powers. Hope Turkish people has stomach for destruction of their country.

.
Syria is the only secular country in that region. wife of Mr Assad is British and his kids are studying in Europe and he won't just start killing women and kids so that he may give enough reasons to those who want him to leave, isn't it? its clear that Mr Assad would only try to prove that Syria is peaceful, people are happy, even if he may have to increase attractive subsidies to Syrian civilians also. why would he organize any type of killing of civilians for no reason while he and his family did enough during their long rule over Syria, to guide Syria on the path of higher progress? otherwise have a look on the arms, these Arab terrorist have on their back, can they be talked other than shoot at site? also, CIA has high tech arms and they use tested Arab origin Al Qaeda terrorists, they used since Cold War. is there any way to talk to these terrorists other than shooting them at a distance. see this picture of #521, it was taken by Reuters itself? :meeting:
¨

I don't know which planet you live on (Jupiter?) but Assad is anything from peaceful:
Acording to various sources, including the United Nations, up to 15,200–21,435 people have been killed, of which about half were civilians. 180,000 refugees. There are currently 40.000 refugees alone in Turkey as we speak. Are they on vacation?

Turkey calls Nato meeting on warplane downed by Syria

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-18568207
Syria said it engaged the aircraft in its airspace "according to the laws that govern such situations"

Turkey has called a meeting of Nato member states to discuss its response to the shooting down of one of its warplanes by Syrian forces on Friday.

Ankara has invoked Article 4 of Nato's charter, under which consultations can be requested when an ally feels their security is threatened, officials say.

Earlier, Turkey's foreign minister said the F-4 Phantom was in international airspace when it was shot down.

Syria has insisted the jet was engaged while it was inside its airspace.

It has also said no act of hostility was intended, noting that as soon the military discovered the "unidentified" aircraft was Turkish its navy joined efforts to rescue the two crew members.

The Turkish coast guard is still searching for them in the Mediterranean Sea, though hopes are fading of them being found alive.

Turkish news channels are reporting that the wreckage of the jet has been located in Syrian territorial waters at a depth of 1,300m (4 265ft), according the Reuters news agency.

The government has also reportedly issued a diplomatic note to Syria.

'Training mission'
Nato spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said the North Atlantic Council, the principal political decision-making body within the military alliance, would meet in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the incident.

This outrageous act underlines how far beyond accepted behaviour the Syrian regime has put itself”

William Hague
UK Foreign Secretary
"Turkey has requested consultations under article 4 of Nato's founding Washington Treaty," she told Reuters.

"Under article 4, any ally can request consultations whenever, in the opinion of any of them, their territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened."

Turkey wants to be sure of the strongest backing once it decides its official response, reports the BBC's Jonathan Head in Istanbul.

The government has promised that it will be strong, decisive and legitimate, and that it will share all the information it has with the public.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu became the first senior Turkish official to challenge Syria's account of the downing of the jet.

After lengthy meetings with military chiefs, he told TRT state television that the unarmed jet had "momentarily" entered Syrian airspace by mistake on Friday but had left when it was shot down 15 minutes later.

"According to our conclusions, our plane was shot down in international airspace, 13 nautical miles (24km) from Syria," he said.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the aircraft was unarmed, and on a routine training mission
According to international law, a country's airspace extends 12 nautical miles (22.2km) from its coastline, corresponding with its territorial waters.

Mr Davutoglu also insisted that the jet had not been on a "covert mission related to Syria" but had instead been carrying out a training flight to test Turkey's radar capabilities.

He said the plane had not "shown any hostility", been clearly marked as Turkish, and that he did not agree with the Syrian military's statement that it had not known to whom it belonged.

UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said the Syrian military's actions were "outrageous" and underlined "how far beyond accepted behaviour the Syrian regime has put itself".

"It will be held to account for its behaviour. The UK stands ready to pursue robust action at the United Nations Security Council," he said.

'Unidentified target'
The Turkish military said it lost radio contact with the F-4 Phantom at 11:58 (08:58 GMT) on Friday while it was flying over Hatay province, about 90 minutes after it took off from Erhac airbase in the province of Malatya, to the north-west.

Later, the Syrian military said an "unidentified air target" had penetrated Syrian airspace from the west at 11:40 local time (08:40 GMT), travelling at very low altitude and at high speed.

It said that in line with the laws prevailing in such cases, Syrian air defences engaged the craft, and scored a direct hit about 1km (0.5 nautical miles) from its coastline.

It burst into flames, and crashed into the sea at a point 10km (5 nautical miles) from the village of Om al-Tuyour, off the coast of Latakia province, well within Syrian territorial waters, the statement added.

Relations between Nato-member Turkey and Syria, once close allies, have deteriorated sharply since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011. More than 30,000 Syrian refugees have fled the violence across the border into Turkey.

This smells like war

Syrian turmoil has resurfaced the old shia-sunni conflict in the middle east and it will only end when the region will be dominated by one single regional power with its allies. In present context it seems that neo ottoman with GCC & Brotherhood's Egypt will lead the course.

You know what me make very very sad.. is that iran and syria looking in to the hands of the kafeers (russia/china) and Turkey looking in to the hands over other kafeers (USA/NATO) and these both scumbag imperialist fkrs (Russia/china/nato/usa) wants the muslim brothers kill eachother.

We are really never gonna win untill we unite around the Qur'aan, the Book of Allah. You guys think everything is about world benefits. Thats not true.. If we have reached the day of now (independence) its still because of Allah. But if we fight again agains eachother, only the kafeers will win.

We are not affraid to die but the only problem is muslim vs muslim and thanks to the traitor leaders the people will suffer from this.

May Allah protect us and give us 100% jihaad feelings in our hearts. This is not only a issue of Turkey/syria/iran but the whole ummah.

And what you guys all saying about russia is this and thas.. man let these noobs come. Let Nato come to we dont care. We will change middle-east in to fire for everybody. If Russia interfere, the ethnic groups in russia will enterfere and Azerbaycan will attack Armenia. Turkey is the last real independence state of the Turks.

. .
its time to ANNEX our OTTOMAN territory in Syria!

who are they to shut down our aircraft?

dont give me equality blah blah 21st century crap!

Syria is never our equal!

they will and they should taste the turkish revenge.

there should not be a building left standing in damascus

YA ALLAH BISMILLAH ALLAHU EKBER

SULTAN ERDOGAN WILL LEAD THE OTTOMAN ARMY OF TURKEY
.

here as per the news we are getting, Turkey has asked NATO for help on this issue as they think "Turkey's Security is Threatened" and Britain has assured them to take "Robust Action in UNSC", as below. then here, what if Syria may shoot down one more Turkey's plane within 1-2 days, if it will again cross the air border as expected? also, anyhow Syrian forces are already crushing these CIA's armed terrorists, funded by different honored Arab nations also, as per the link in my post #521? then here, is there any hope of open response or just begging to NATO for 'threatened security' and British 'robust response' in UNSC? :undecided:

look, Syria is anyhow on attack by CIA's armed Arab terrorists, funded by honored Arab nations, as per the link of my post #521. then here, from now onward Turkey and these 'honored' Arab nations will keep losing an aircraft one by one, if they will not stop funding terror in Syria. but the main 'threat' is about 'losing mental balance', as, in case of losing even little mental balance, Iran already has border with Turkey and Russian military is at a distance of just 3-4 hours from Turkey, as per my post as below:
http://www.defence.pk/forums/turkey...s-shot-down-turkish-plane-19.html#post3092048

and if the things will continue for bit longer, the route of russian tanks will go down on this map, as in my post as below:
