Syrian Airdefences shot down Turkish plane

A Syrian military spokesman told the official news agency SANA that anti-aircraft batteries opened fire on an "unidentified target" after it entered their airspace, bringing it down in Syrian waters.

They subsequently established it was a Turkish fighter and the two countries' navies were now cooperating in an operation to find the two missing pilots, the agency reported.

so obviously was the turkish pilots fault

RQ-170 is unmanned, was composed of 'expendable' technology (technology that we could afford to 'give away', a requirement for a drone)

It should also be noted that treating the attack as a cassus belli is as always the purview of the government on the recieving end of the attack, the US and NATO will not take specific action if Turkey does not request it.

Whatever plane you are talking about would be news to me, got links? As for that UK SAS incident, the UK decided not to escalate.

LOL at believing NATO = Georgia.
if this help you to go to the bed tonight , then it's ok ...

VERY IMPORTANT THING: F-4 is a phantom and usually do the bombing missions , so if it was armed , it was going to bomb somewhere but i couldn't and destroyed ....

not only religiously

Stop looking at everything from your religious glasses. You are in freaking 21th century.

Israel as a state was ally of Turkey before Erdogan, while these "Muslim brothers" you see around are the worst enemies of Turkey, I'm exactly talking about Iran and Syria, biggest supporters of pkk in past.

so obviously was the turkish pilots fault

first of all, they had to contact the jet,and want them to identify himself, and then warn him; the last solution done in the first place, if you did read the article you post, they say they did shoot down the jet and then did realize the info about it; so it is totally a hostile attitude.

.
Without a reason? Without a warning?
Can you provide the source? No you can't, because we don't know that yet. But if your predictions are right, then you are right.

Yes. Most probably, The event occured without warning. If Syrians communicated with plane for issue a warning, They wouldn't have declared that "We realized It was Turkish aircraft after shot it down".

Maybe there was something with the radio?

And the bold part, is something like that possible? You are familiar with the military systems...

true but its look like, its Georgia again :agree:. as, if the war escalates then Russian tanks would cross Georgia within just 3-4 hours, with 40km/hour speed to Turkey border. there is hardly 120kn to 130km distance in between Russian and Turkey border, through Georgia? :undecided:

and, if Turkey will have to defend itself then it will be only Turkey who will have to fight, not NATO. its true that entering in others border is hard, for Turkish and Syrian forces both but once Russian tanks and Russian air force will have crossed Georgia and take a strike on Turkey, it will be mainly Iranian military who will invade Turkey, together with Surian army. Russian role would be just to make it easy..........

we do lose aircrafts and sometimes military personnel also but it is wise for Turkey to forget if something like this happened or may again happen in future . as, it will be definitely very hard for EU+US to send their troops to that region and then fight but it won't be that hard for Russia+Syria+Iran to invade Turkey with combined efforts, once russian tanks reach Turkey's border with straight 40km/hour speed through Georgia. a NATO's AC would hardly be worth for one SU30/Su27 once it come close but a war is fought on ground, and it will be only the Turkey's military who will face all the consequences once they will be attacked from 3 sides.........

Communicating with planes/ships watching international channel are as usual thing for every country. A marine VHF can even help you to communicate with a ship or aircraft using same channel. It is not a hard work so This can't be a justification.

Turkey laid the military options on the table for Syria. One of the options is the NATO

Turkish people are eagerly awaited how Turkiye will take a position after Syria shot down the aircraft. Whether Turkiye will solve this problem via military option or the task of diplomacy is unknown, but on the table one of the strongest assets, of course, is the NATO.

Article 5 says that NATO follows:

" The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security."

Turkiye Will Decide

Spokeswoman of U.S. Secretary of State said in a statement after the incident that it is the best thing to leave the decision to Turkiye on this issue. It is considered a sign that the U.S. gave the green light to Turkiye.

Ivo Daalder of the United States Permanent Representative to NATO, had said in a statement the following expressions:

''Syria or anywhere else in case of an attack to Turkiye, can be considered the operation of Article 5 of NATO "

During the Daalder'e press conference in Washington, the question was brought to the agenda ''Is it possible to implement Article Number 5 of NATO for Syria’s border violation against Turkey? ''

Ivo Daalder said ''If there were to be an armed attack against Turkey, then the North Atlantic Council and the countries of NATO would come together to decide whether or not this met the test of invoking – what is called invoking this Article 5, and would lead to an appropriate response.

Syria shot down the warplane without knowing it was a Turkish warplane

The Prime Minister said in a statement after the 2-hour critical peak, it is understood that the lost Turkish F-4 fighter jets brought down by Syria in the Mediterranean. Syria said, "Turkish warplanes entered our land 1 km and we hit it. We realized that the target was a Turkish plane after the shooting"

Before Turkish warplane shot down, the pilots sent a fault report that aircraft navigational system was broken. The possibility of accidentally shot down an unarmed reconnaissance F-4 aircraft reportedly is not possible. A similar event took place in 1989. Cadastral plane belonging to Turkey, violating Syrian airspace, shot down by Syria. After this incident took place, father al-Assad of Syria apologized and paid compensation to Turkiye "

The news says like that but I do not think any military option will be implemented.
