The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to curtail all regular Sukhoi-30 MKI interceptor sorties barring ''emergent and limited flights,'' pending investigations into Tuesday's Pune air crash which is being carried out by top IAF officials and aeronautical engineers from Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL).

A highly-placed defence official from Lohegaon in the Pune district while talking to Deccan Herald said, “ Except for training and emergency flights, we do not intend to carry out any regular air exercises till we find the cause of the technical snag that led to the crash.” The board of inquiry constituted to ferret out the technical antecedents leading to the crash will submit its report in a week’s time.

“We have recovered the flight data recorder, the information in it is being analysed and till we complete our analysis, we will not be carrying out Su-30MKI sorties on a regular basis. From Friday we will be carrying out training flights but only on emergent basis,” the defence official added. On Wednesday, Air Marshall A K Gogoi met the pilots who had ejected from the aircraft before it turned into a ball of fire and crashed into the “flying area or gliding path,” of Lohegaon air base. Air Marshall Gogoi was apprised of the situation and asked that pending board of inquiry findings, Sukhoi-30 MKI regular flying exercises should be “immediately curtailed.”
