Shutter down strike over blasphemy issue

Zia put these laws in place, did he get his education is Loot and lies and the blood of Palestinians he killed for the Hijazi king? knock out round?

Khuda kay liyay yaar... Zia did not study in a Madrassah... He was the best asset of the US all his life... Until his role was done and the Americans got rid of him...

Can't say I'm surprised, the mullahs never fail to disappoint.

I hope you realize that nobody cares about what you moderates have to say. You are weak and powerless (frankly speaking). You can't control the religious bigots because they're far too loud and far too many, complaining on the internet is one thing but at the end of the day the rest of us have to deal with the consequences of religious extremism brewing in your country.

If archaic laws such as this can cause such a stir it simply couldn't get anymore ominous. Do you guys really wonder why the rest of the world views Pakistan the way it does? Sorry if I come across as a little brash, but its the simple truth whether you like it or not.

Zia was nevertheless a Jamati, an Islamican and Zia is responsible for "islamizing" an overwhelmingly Muslim country, resulting in creating a brutish, brutal society, especially when it came to ideas of pluralism and tolerance. Using the US as a convenient bad guy will not suffice, the bad buy in this game are Islamicans who conspired to turn over Pakistan to Arabia of the Saud.

The most modest estimate is 40,000 killed during Black September (PLO claims much higher), even senior ranking PA officers were against this operation and Zia still went ahead much to their chagrin.

Amazing isn't it, his prize for killing Muslims was the COAS role on a platter.

'Unfit' to be an officer, got that right.

Being nephew of Jamaat-e-Islami's Mian Tufail helped a lot too.

Z. A. Bhutto called him his "Jamati" General.

Ulema can always be counted on to support the most ignorant, most regressive ideas because these ideas are for them, a stick to use against society to terrorize society - the "La iqra fid deen" no compulsion in religion is a joke, they have set themselves up as if they are thaikedars of the namoose, and of islam itself - these radicals need to be dealt with but it by definition has to be a long slow process, unfortunately.

40, 000 Palestinians, I would bet it just 4000 of these ulema were to be treated in a similar manner, it would have a sobering effect on the rest.

assalam alaikum

with all the respect to u

Religous parties and their leaders r not angels just as the other parties, everybody try to rally their supporters for thier cuase. Total shutter down was observed in karachi (oh this karachi where a secular party is ruling) Calling pakistanies name just as these ( bigoted supporters ) is wrong.

Most of our problems is bcoz of our hypocrate politicians and all of them who were in power r educated from secular eduction system and r secular.

The govt. who's head called the promises or contracts r not quranic verses, who will trust their words do u?

These ppl saw this law is good they rallied the ppl behind them u feel suicide bombing r not good rally the ppl behind u who is stopping u ?

Hon Sir,

Majority of Pakistanis are Muslims for generations, long before the Hudood laws and Blasphemy laws. We will remain followers of the holy Prophet (PBUH) and ‘Aashiq e Rasool’ whether the Blasphemy law is amended or scrapped.

Pray tell me did the propose bill imply that blasphemy law should be scrapped? The proposed bill dealt only with an amendment in the law. Democratic way would be to oppose it in the parliament, not thru thuggery on the streets. At least wait until the bill has been passed before showing your displeasure.

PPP party has now backtracked and would not support it. Despite this why shutters down strike? Pakistan’s economy is already suffering thru floods and shortage of power. Must we suffer another day’s loss of production?

IMO reason is that religious parries don’t care a fig about humanity or about Pakistan. All these bigots want is to exploit Islam to score political points. This strike served no other purpose but this. That Pakistan economy was hurt as a result is of no importance to them as they were against the creation of Pakistan from the start.

I am asking is that we are also human beings and these Mullahs should one day do some thing for the sake of humanity as well. Don’t you agree that thousands of innocent Pakistanis have lost their lives thru suicide bombings? Situation is so bad that no one even wants to play cricket in Pakistan. Why not call for strike against suicide bombings? Why about a subject which became irrelevant when Gilani declared that PPP won’t follow it up?

I am surprised that so many intelligent people get emotionally excited as soon as any one criticizes actions of the religious parties. Don’t these people realize that they are unconsciously playing in the hand of the bigots and damaging Pakistan’s economy in the bargain?

I firmly believe that Deobandi parties and TTP in particular have a hidden agenda to destroy Pakistan and establish an Islamic emirate in its place. Instead I would like Pakistan to change back into a progressive Islamic state that it was until the start of the bigot Zia. I would therefore carry on condemning all such actions which hurt Pakistan as the shutter down strike did.

Well, some of Gen Zia's family members and my Grand father were friends so I can vouch for this.

Gen. Zia married his sons into other powerful military families to keep a hold on power, one of them was Gen. Rahimuddin Khan. Especially after the unsuccessful 1981 coup against Zia thanks to Gen Abdul Rahman.

Mian Tufail and all Jamaati's used to be around for every happy occasion.

Here is a source anyway.

The Jamaat’s chief Mian Tufail Muhammad’s nephew was Ziaul Haq, and both worked to further US interests in Pakistan and the region.

No. Impossible. Even in India loonies like Shiv Sena protest Valentines day and beat a few couples/ damage a few shops but it never results in 'total shut down'. A few shops might shut down as a result of fear of violence but 'Total Shutdown'? That's impossible unless people also support it.

yes its possible , but in Pakistan those who oppose not even risk their businesses also their lives are at stake

Does nt change the fact that he was the darling of the "enlightened west" at that time... He was certainly no Islamist because his "Islam" remained confined to punishing his political opponents and the "poor" who got caught with petty offense... Had he been a real "Islamican" he would have brought a just socioeconomic and political order instead of the continuing jageerdarana ruling elite with fake degrees... instead of brutality on sectarian lines, we would have had Muslims thinking like Muslims today instead of Shia and Wahabi.... You cannot name a single policy that he enacted related to establishing the Islamic economic model... so what Islamican then? Is Islam the name of hanging political opponents and banning alcohol in public alone?

He was no different than the baffoons that rule us today... Islam is a cheap tool in the hands of such people...

And he was the darling of these Ulema and of the Arbis of the Saud family -- which of these ulema are against Jageerdarana policies, which of these ulema ever condemn sectarian violence -- and yes, we all agree that Islam is a tool, a play thing in the hands of ulema -- these thaikedars of the namoose and islam are as Niaz Sahab, has so reasonably suggested, playing into the hands of bigots and worse still, they turn off Muslims, after all, we have been Muslims long before these islamicans came to make Muslims out of us - be reasonable, we are not the enemy, the Ulema and the islamicans are.

Remove blasphemy law, remove darkness from Pakistan.

Not just this but all the Saudi approved laws from the times of Bhutto.

Bhutto used the Pan-Islamic card and in return was told to implement laws that the Sauds wanted to see.

Then Zia, to get support of the Saud's had to implement his 'Islamic' laws so that the money kept flowing to those damned 'Mujahids' fighting against the Godless Soviets.

Hello,

Since senior members of PLO acctepted they were wrong so it is now for u ppl to stop blaming zia. he was just obeying orders just like any soldier remember pak foj was there to protect the jordan king or country and who sent him there is to blame i bet he was also a secular who sent him there and if some PA Officers against it after what PLO senior have said these Opposing PA Officers were wrong u should appreciate the wisdom of zia ( lol). yes i know it will hurt.

Now coming to COAS role u might will feel good to blame bhutto for it but some other might differ from u. It was all bhutoo's fault to make unit officer COAS.
