The government's decision to grant Indian citizenship to Adnan Sami has angered Shiv Sena, an old ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The government's decision to grant Indian citizenship to Adnan Sami has angered Shiv Sena, an old ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande questioned the government's decision to make Sami an Indian citizen.
"BJP had previously opposed giving citizenship to Adnan Sami. Now their government is in power and they have given citizenship to him. Why Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is deported, I don't know the reason. On one side we are granting citizenship to Adnan Sami and on the other we are deporting Rahat Fateh Ali, people are watching this," Kayande said.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was barred entry and asked to return back to Abu Dhabi moments after he landed at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Thursday. Immigration officials said that for all Pakistani nationals, the port of entry is Delhi or Mumbai. No Pakistani can enter the country from Hyderabad.
Shiv Sena has made it clear, on a number of occasions, that it is against any relationship with Pakistan till the neighbouring nation dismantles terror factories operating on its soil.
Sena, a junior partner of the BJP both in Maharashtra as well as the Centre, has been protesting against the participation of Pakistani citizens in Indian events.
In October last year, Shiv Sena's protest forced organisers to cancel Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai and Pune.
Its workers had also blackened the face of columnist and former BJP ideologue Sudheendra Kulkarni for organising the launch of a book by former Pakistan minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, leading to a massive national outrage.
