Second Vikrant-class carrier to counter China threat: Indian official

just a few points as to what is known to me thru my source /"chirria"

MOD has onli announced the financial pakage to start th initial R&D for INS Vishal (it is not vikrant class)

INS Vikrant will have a sister ship which will be identical to INS Vikrant in every expect

INS Vishal on the other hand is concieved as a neuklear powered, AC which is 60 K tonnes catagorry which will have 4 sea squads (12 fighter each) couple of sea based AWACs and six ASW heli copters with US EMALS
That means 4 ac?

god acche din by 2023:p:.......it makes me happy when i think about four carriers........but what about capital ships, destroyers, frigates, submarines and support vessels?????for every CBG we need to have 4 destroyers, 4 ASW frigates, 2SSN, 4 SSK, 2 fleet tankers and some ASW corvette's.....that takes the total to 16 destroyers,16 frigates, 8SSN and 16 SSK's 8 fleet tankers and what not its to ambitious:undecided:

First i dont like the idea of 65k carrier. If usa is helping why nt build 100k carrier . Secondly we should go for follow on vikrant class as proposed by cochin. We can have 3 carrier by as early as 2023. Lastly we will never have vikrant built before 25 seeing the excellent record of shipyards for delay nt to forget exoribant price

I Agree with the point that we should go for a follow up version of Vikrant

Why,he is not saying something out of the world, does he!!I.N. has already started to receiveall three Kolkata class destroyers and by the end of 2018 the first Vishakapatnam class will also join the fleet.By 2022 I.N. will have a destroyer force of 7 P15a/15b plus upgraded P-15 in its inventory.Again there is every chance that the last 2 Rajput class destroyers will also remain in service since they have undergone extensive upgradation in the recent past.So the total no. of destroyers will be around 12.Now if the I.N. decides to go on and build 4 more imporved Vishakapatnam class at the end of 2020 then it will have at least 2 of them by 2025.So when it comes to the destroyer force he is not exaggerating even a little bit.Now lets come to the frigate part,I.N. is already operating 6 Talwar class+3 Shivalik class+3 Brahmaputra class+2 Godavari class at present. If ongoing rumors are to be believed then it's a strong possibility that the I.N. will order a further block of 4 Krivak-IV/Improved Talwar class from Russia in the near future in order to cater it's growing demand. Now twork on the much anticipated P-17A class will begin soon as the shipyards have already been chosen by the MoD.So we can expect all the 7 P-17A to join the I.N. fleet by 2025,hence we are looking at a frigate force of 10 P-17/P17A+9/10 Krivak III/IV+ 3 Brahmaputra class by 2025:coffee:.

imagination and delusion are the words in the dictionary of Pakistanis, we make it happen sooner or later.......u can expect a more muscled navy by 2025.....we have no option but to make new ships and soldiers........yesterday i had a discussion with my dad about this.......he was in the navy, served for 28 years......i asked him about "how much time does it take to make a skilled sailor......he told me till he becomes Petty officer......it takes around 10-12 years to become PO..........what we need is men He told and not ships.......we need skilled men to man the ships.....

your answer was perfect sir, justified and precise.......future strength for frigate could be anywhere between 24-26.......navy is also looking to replace ganga class with gorshkov class.....heard somewhere....will provide u the source

Well the upcoming P-17A is a class apart from the Russian ones in terms of sensors, stealth, radar and firepower but the problem is that the Indian shipbuilding industry is not yet capable enough of mass producing these beauties and hence in order to increase it's frigate strength the I.N. has no other option other than ordering 3-4 Improved Krivak-IV/Gorshkov class frigates which are quite truly multi-role warships and quite versatile in all it's roles:coffee:.

Heard somewhere that the Vikrant ll will be commissioned as INS Virat. The current Virat will be decommissioned by 2018.

Ok am confused .... So we will have two vikrant class carrier or 1 vikrant and Vishal ?

But is this even true ? Shipyard actually said they can deliver 2nd follow on vikrant in just 4 years .

And I also prayed for a moment in that thread : Oh God please influence minds if DM PM FM to go for it ... :-)

It came true ? :D

Stupid journalists,

Its NOT second Vikrant-Class carrier, its a whole different program. Vishal-Class is the next generation carrier and will be much bigger than Vikrant-Class carrier, it maybe a Nuclear powered with EMALS.

So, if u are going to pray for two carriers, PRAY for two Vishal-class carriers.

Ie., For second prayer which will take longer time . But my focus is on 40kT carrier which can be launched in water by 2020 and inducted by 2022/23 :D
