The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday announced that the search operation in Gyari sector of the Siachin Glacier had been completed.
The search operation for recovering dead bodies of the 140 Pakistan Army troops, which trapped under the heavy ice rubble due to land sliding in Gyari Sector last year, has been accomplished after fourteen months of extensive work.
In this regard, the Director General ISPR Major General Asim Salim Bajwa in his Twitter message from Skardu, announced the accomplishment of the operation which was underway for the past 14 months. During the operation, Pakistan Army troops and engineers, regardless of severe climatic conditions, rendered their untiring services day and night, he added.
The DG ISPR further said a tribute will be given to these martyrs in a ceremony on Monday.
It is pertinent to mention here that on April 7, 2012 the headquarters of the 6 Northern Light Infantry Battalion was destroyed due to an avalanche. As a consequence, all of the 140 troops and civilians deployed were martyred. The bodies of the martyred were recovered and formally handed over to the families and buried later with complete military protocol attached.
A large number of Pakistan Army men and engineers took part in the operation and recovered the bodies of with the help of heavy machinery.
