SAUDI ARABIA REPORTEDLY INTERESTED IN THE JF-17 THUNDER

Saudi Arabia is just words and then they go buy the west.

Pakistanis going crazy as if they are gods.

Old story, well recounted by ACdre Masnoor Shah.

The Saudis asked the PAF to help is evaluating a new fighter aircraft from the F-104, the F-5 and the English Electric Lightining.

The PAF ranked it as:
1. F-5 highly recommended
2. F-104 not recommended
3. Lightning - Not recommended at all

The Saudis bought the lightining.

Saudis had 110 F5s in its inventory during the first gulf war

Was wondering why we had Lightnings in the 70s with the large expanses of the Saudi deserts. They would be pretty useless except in Tabuk, Khamis Mushaiyt, and Dammam (and even then would be wiped out at Tabuk before actually being able to do much damage). Thankfully , they bought the F-5s, F-15s, and Tornados (not the ADF version though) before they had to actually go to war.

Well it has always been about kickbacks and more importantly, keeping the nearly two-centuries old strategic relationship with the British going.

Having grown up now and learned a little bit, WOW the PAF recommendation was spot on the money.

Also., those F-5s seem never to wear out. Northrop were not bragging when they said they knew how to build solid aircraft (F-5/F-20 generation) that were cheap and easy to maintain.

Allah keep everyone safe.

Saudis can get TOT for any fighter plane they want. Cost and being economical is not an issue for RSAF. USA deals with Saudis differently than it deals with Pakistan.
RSAF can load an F-15 with double payload and still maintain a good range compared to a JF-17.
Well they recently procured typhoon and how much ToT it brought along is well known. The point is not that the Eagles and typhoons are in anyway, less capable. The problem is the rapidly changing political scenario. US was, at one time, pushing for action against the Saudis for 9/11 with only Obama's veto coming to help them. If such thing happens then this would create risks for the Saudis not only with respect to replenish their stocks but also with respect to procure addition and/or supportive hardware from both Europe and US. With JFT, they can continue their campaign with impunity and as they please. Its not that the Saudis have special love for the platform, they'd likely procure it as a hedge against political risks and minimize the costs associated with using F-15s and/or Typhoons.

If KSA relations with US sour, RSAF will procure the SU35 very next day or even Rafale for that matter. JF-17 isnt on the menu for them.

1-Why would they need Rafale when they already have Typhoon and potentially can procure more of it?
2-With KSA in direct clash with Russia in Syria, do you really believe that Russians would just happily sell their SU-35s to KSA?

.
If operational cost was such an issue, RSAF wouldnt have gone for EFT batches rather a single engine light fighter to support F-15's.

Oil was 100 USD plus when those decisions were made and no one could dream that the americans would give up on Iran and sign the deal.

Yup, bought after the United States told them to. Replacing the Lightinings which would have never come had the Saudis actually been interested in the technical aspects of the aircraft and not Bakhshish.

Their higher ups (Army and Air force) have a strange mentality, having dealt with them makes me wonder whether or not they value the input by the "inferiors". The same story was repeated with they bought the M1A2s. They still struggle keeping it battle worthy and find it difficult to operate. Thanks to their favorite ones, they keep buying shiny toys without having the ability to either operate or properly maintain them, let alone tweaking.

I would bet my last dime that they will not go for the jf-17, no matter how much we tweak it.

This was in response to your statement of US/Obama/911.

Its about sphere of influence, If KSA jumps put of USA influence, Russia will take it in.Also about money, KSA can pay upfront to Russia if it wants.

KSA isnt short of options.

Pak Friends, Brothers,

Please, forgive if my comments cause hurt or sense of insult. None is my intention.

It is a painful sight to see Pak political and professional classes bending over backward in front of those who see them as subhumans. Truly, sad sight.

A country which has produced and is producing strategic weapons. LACM, SRBM, MRBM, battle field BM, ALCM, building tanks and 4+ gen fighter jets and down the road SSN/SSBN... whose sons and daughters work in the West in some of the finest instituitions.. (Some posters here are example of that).... and yet this Civilisation State and its ruling elite has NO Self Respect.

Should we see it as tragedy or farce?

The Game has changed. The intended old Word Order is dead. Welcome to the New World Order of multiploar axis. And your great country is one Pivotal state.

When will your ruling elite act with dignity that you, the People of Pak, deserve?

Regarding, the weapon systems of Pak State for these GCC states... stop trying to sell them. Let them come and ask. I shall not use a strong word here.

The little enterprise in Syria that these players financed and sponsored is dead in waters. With the Trump Admin the changes are going to be profound. Those pets will come back to their owners and do what they have been programmed to do.

Pak must wait for the opportune moment.

As I have said many times before... Pak is CA and ME regional power. A balancer between ME waring secterian factions. If only Pak ever will act as one...The new Security Gaurantor of Peace and Security in ME i.e. Pakistan. Get your economy going first and far most. Break the bloody beggar's bowl forever.

Focus must be towards JF blockIII and beyond...together with NGF that is being worked on behind the scenes.

IT is time to Act according to your own worth. Stop degrading yourself in front of those who see you as subhumans.

If anyone wants to buy these potent systems...sign the contract with downpayment and treat Pak with RESPECT.

It truly saddens me to see such a great Civilisational State acting so weakly.

You are not poor. Never in your thousands of years history have to been poor. This current state of econmy is the result of incompetence and betrayal on part of the so-called rulers.

Time to Accept your worth...onwards to Block iii and NGF. Built in Pak for Pak.

Bless this Great Civlisational State whose people are sleepwalking!

If and buts are no certain options. As of today, KSA is against Russia in Syria and that's how things are going now. Even People here were speculating Su-35 for Pakistan and we all know how sadly and abruptly it ended in vain.

you can drag it all you want, argue to your hearts content and make this thread 100 pages with all logics and reasons in your arsenal, and as much as you and i would want, its highly doubtful that KSA will induct JF-17.

.
Then pakistan should play shady too, like the yemen crisis when they asked pakistan to die on the front but instead got the middle finger exept nwaz royal sharif bow down to thier feet.

look after youself interest.

Hahaha! But what about the F-5?

Saudi Arabia never said before that it will buy big numbers or any numbers of the JF-17, they were just expressing interest for the last 7 years, now it is in some advanced Study phase (feasibility), otherwise why would they say bluntly that they will purchase a hefty number of the fighter plane..? Can anyone come up with a logical and acceptable reason.. the same for Qatar, Bahrein and Kuwait..

sorry for being off topic but EAF seems a better contender for JFT.
EAF has to deal with the new Usraeli F-35 threat for now, so they are concentrating on very high end fighters..The JF-17 Blk 3 with all its goodies and mostly BVR capabilities will be on the table too very soon.. since they also want production and JV.. All in all, not less than 400 will be sold and co-produced with the Arab coalition alone..
