What's new

Saudi Arabia expresses interest in JF-17 co-production with Pakistan.

Yeah. We always seek the best  ..

Next year the delivery & the upgrade of our F-15SA will start. The upgrades will come first and the delivery fallows two years later.

The entire 153 F-15s order will be delivered by 2020.

F-15 is a 40 years old plane. JF-17 is relatively brand new. F-15 is on its way out. Design wise, F-15 is no match for JF-17. :p:

Don't insult F-15 they are much improved from avionics to airframe/design have you studied variant of F-15 read them.

F-14 beats F-15 in air to air. That's why Iran selected F-14 over F-15. :bounce:

F-16 beat them both in WVR, jf-17 beats F-16, jf-17 rocks :D

ISLAMABAD: The 17-member Saudi defence delegation returned home on Wednesday after completing its three-day exploratory trip to Pakistan for identifying areas of cooperation.

The team led by Deputy Defence Minister Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz al Saud visited Pakistan after the two countries agreed on enhanced defence ties during a trip by Foreign Minister Saud al Faisal to Islamabad.

The two countries are describing the warming of bilateral ties as the beginning of a ‘new era in the strategic partnership’.

On the last day of the three-day visit, the delegation visited Air Defence Command of Pakistan Air Force. According to a PAF source, the Saudi delegation has expressed interest in Pakistan’s indigenously produced command and control system.
Saudis also want to buy Super Mushshak training aircraft and JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. The delegation had earlier visited General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and defence industries in Kamra and Wah.

The trip is expected to be followed by expert-level discussions on areas that Riyadh would like to benefit from Pakistan’s expertise. In addition to radars and aircraft, the Saudis are keen on training and getting Pakistani experts in their services.

Nobody seems to be looking at the negative reactions to this. The elephant in the room is Iran. Care should be taken to ensure that border does not erupt, Afghan region does not result in battleground and this. Multiple scenarios should not result where a neighbour is rubbed the wrong way.

If Iran places an order for 200 JF-17s, we will not sell them to Saudi Arabia. :D

More F-16's will always be ordered given that we have $1.3B in FMF to spend every year, the most recent purchase was to replace F-16's lost in accidents/crashes or due to attrition (about 20 fighters, they also put all F-4 Phantoms out of service). The F-16 however may not be a viable option to replace over 100 obsolete fighters...

All MIg-21's/F-7's are due for retirement by 2015 those on their own are about 100-120 fighter jets (all of which are used for point defence attached to the Air Defence Command). The Mirage III/V HORUS needs to be fully retired with only around two squadrons remaining out of 82 delivered. So that's another 24 fighters.

Further F-16 procurement is just a stop gap and any deal with the Russians (there has already been a deal for air defence systems) for jets will also be as capable if not more than the F-16's. What we need is a High-low mix of fighters and the JF-17 with ToT and TopT provides that, and is a very capable fighter for its price tag.

Inshallah we will see our jet serving our Egyptian brothers.

Can EJ200 be retrofitted in JF-17?

Yes, JF-17 is a modular design that can host different engines.

Anyone remember this old thread JF-17 In Saudi Arabia

Maybe those leaked images now make more sense

Maybe RSAF took it out for a spin.

One is a blogspot site, the other is from an unreliable news paper source. Again, I repeat, a JF-17 stealth is unlikely, and a poor idea. Any Pakistani or Chinese engineer that even things that it's a good idea, should be fired, because they've clearly lost their mind.

There are chances of Co production or production under licence in KSA because KSA is establishing defence sector in their kingdom so there are minor chances.
What I can see is if they choose JF-17 its just they wanna strengthen ties and enter in new era of strategic partnership with Pakistan coz AK-2 MBT was more good option for KSA rather than JF-17 otherwise KSA any sort of purchase of JF-17 will be leap towards JF-17 export success coz many other countries will surely follow them.

I don't understand what you just said. Please rephrase and use punctuations.

"For Saudi Arabia, the DCA with Indonesia comes on the heels of a similar deal with Pakistan – both deals highlight the Kingdom’s interest in expanding relations with Islamic nations outside its immediate Middle Eastern neighborhood. The deal with Pakistan came two days prior to the Indonesian deal, and as The Diplomatreported, may involve the purchase of joint China-Pakistan developed JF-17 fighter jets."

I dont know why a resourceful country like Saudi Arabia be interested in a platform built for a country like Pakistan which cant purchase expensive jets!

Some of the obvious advantages to Saudi Arabia would be
  • No strings
  • No fear of sanctions
  • No pre-conditions
  • No procurement number restrictions
And on the positive side
  • Open Architecture (install whatever you want)
  • Upgradeable
  • Opens doors to Non-NATO weapons (increases diversity)
  • Local Assembly lines
  • Access to technical and tactical knowledge
  • Single and twin seat versions
  • Multirole
  • IFR
  • Light weight 4th gen
  • Low RCS
  • Low Cost
  • and the list goes on
Here are some disadvantages of producing JF-17
  • Pinching Americans and NATO for not buying from them
For Pakistan, the gain would be
  • Financial Gains
  • Producing more advanced blocks
  • Joint RND programs
  • Selle of weapon packages
  • Possibility of getting Saudi JF-17s at the time of need
This is a win-win possibility for both countries and Saudis will be benefitted in more dimensions than Pakistan.

If Iran places an order for 200 JF-17s, we will not sell them to Saudi Arabia. :D
@Arabian Legend @Yzd Khalifa

Iran can also get what it want... Pakistan has friendly relationship with both countries.

What literal role will it play for Egypt?
