S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems delivery to India can begin in 2020

All China calculus weapons are always used in the eastern theatre..

Unfortunately war is imposed by our western neighbour on us always. You dont expect us to keep our shiny toys for China while engaging in a war with second line of defence, do you?

But we need to buy and acquire thing of standard good enough to be able to counter a foe like China had they got a heart change and seek war.

We have no answer. Our missiles, f16s will be sitting ducks against this system until we get stealth fighters, & supersonic , hypersonic missiles.

s400 Is best ever tech ever made for defense purpose.
One of the but st is the apt word...I don't think US,Israel are lags behind Russians.

NEW DELHI: In a game-changing arms acquisition, India is going to ink a Rs 39,000 crore deal for five new-generation Russian S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems, which can destroy incoming hostile aircraft, stealth fighters, missiles and drones at ranges of up to 400-km.

India and Russia will also finalise the long-awaited agreement for the joint production of around 200 Kamov 226T light utility helicopters at a cost of about $1 billion under the "Make in India" programme.

With Russian President Vladmir Putin headed for India to attend the BRICS Summit in Goa, the S-400 deal as well as the joint venture for helicopters to be established between defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics and Russian Rostec State Corporation will be inked over the weekend.

TOI was the first to be report in October 2015 that India had decided to purchase the S-400 systems, which basically have three kinds of missiles, with different capabilities, that can fly at supersonic and hypersonic speeds to intercept all kinds of targets at ranges from 120 to 400-km. Russian experts even proclaim the S-400 surface-to-air missile (SAM) system can "radar lock and shoot down" stealth fifth-generation fighters like the American F-35 jets.

This procurement comes over an year after China sealed a $3 billion deal with Russia for acquisition of six S-400 batteries. China is slated to get the S-400 batteries, which is designated `SA-21 Growler' by NATO and rivals the anti-ballistic missile capabilities of the US Patriot PAC-3 system, from 2017 onwards.

As for the Kamov helicopters, which will replace the aging and obsolete Cheetah and Chetak fleets of the armed forces, the deal will be signed between defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics and Russian Rostec State Corporation. HAL and Rostec will form a joint venture to set up the production facilities to execute the deal.

Shouldnt these systems be cheaper now, as Ruble is down ?

So Pakistan is 1/6th size of India.

Whereas China is bigger than India.

You have 6 operational commands and 3 out of them are Pakistan specific.

This is hugely disproportional and you still claim that Pakistan needs not worry?

I guess it's because Pakistan is troublemaker for India (per them) hence ....

Quality is always costly ... and its a defencive purchase not an offensive one and no other country is going to sell us system like this .

Russians robbing us yet again. 5 for $5 billion?!?!

US blocked arrow sale to india almost 13-14 years back ..but allowed the sale of green pine ..which we still have .
Propaganda is the name of the game

We have Prithvi that could serve this role.

.
AAD and PAD are not matured enough to be deployed may the 6 billion dollars are for TOT and we can use the technology in AAD and PAD to kae them more robust and reliable

You are right price is very high but for security you have to pay high prices
We have Prithvi that could serve this role.

I hate Mi17v5 deal... We are about to buy close to 200 of it... But not making it.
It's very frustrating indeed but alas the Russians are upgrading the IAF's BRDs to support the V5s over their lifespans. India doesn't need the V5 assembly work too much, in a decade or so India will have its own helo in the same class (IMRH).

At least the Russians are delivering these birds very swiftly to India, close to 110 have already been handed over to the IAF and BSF, 150 order should be complete by the end of this year.

Yes, but its a, lost case now. Better that the needs of CAPFs are met cheaply. This purchase of 48 Mi17V5 specifically is for attrition replacements and needs of ITBP and CRPF.
Wish the GoI was smart enough to create an intergrated MHA airwing to support all CAPFs instead of the CRPF, BSF, ITBP etc etc creating their own mini airforces entirely unrelated to the other. Economies of scale and commonality of training would greatly improve the functionality of the total fleet many times over.
