Islamabad: Pakistan foreign office on Thursday said that the first visit of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to Pakistan has been postponed.

Presidents of Afghanistan, Russia and Tajikistan were scheduled to reach Islamabad on October 1, on three-day tour to attend the four-nation leaders’ conference.

In a statement issued here, the spokesman to the office said that the conference which was scheduled to be held in Islamabad on October 2 had been postponed, adding that the visit of the presidents had also been held over.

The conference was expected to exchange views over regional cooperation and Afghan stability and peace with other leaders.

The office said that the new dates for the conference would be announced later.

Correction : the visit has "NOT" been canceled rather it has been postponed or delayed & new dates will be announced soon.

In international parlance postponing a visit means cancelling it, moreover the visit is 'postponed' for an indefinite period.

Russian president defers Pakistan visit


iSLAMABAD: Russian President Vladimir Putin has postponed his visit to Pakistan, saying that he has other engagements scheduled on the same dates, the Pakistani foreign office said on Thursday.
However, Express News reported that he postponed his trip due to security concerns.
According to a press release issued by the Pakistani foreign office, the quadrilateral summit between Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Afghanistan which was scheduled for October 2 and 3 has also been postponed.
In a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari, Putin expressed his eagerness to “jointly enhance efforts to further develop Russian-Pakistani ties” and “advance mutually beneficial trade and economic projects.”
The Russian president wrote, “I am confident that in future we shall be able to find opportunities for arranging our personal meeting. We shall always be happy to receive you in Russia”.
The new dates for the summit will be sorted out after seeking availability of the participating leaders through diplomatic channels.

Looks like Pakistan got stood up. Head of state visits are planned meticulously, and well in advance. There is no chance of other engagements just cropping up randomly, that too at the last minute.
