Russian Navy

russia can built aircraft carier without any one,s help. but can,t built amphibious assault ship without the help from france. what a joke.............o_Oo_Oo_O
Even if you have the technology equal or superior to someone else's technology - to gain access to them it means to strengthen your position.
Why does the control towers on russian ships look bulky....
Most of the western ships control towers look sleek...
Even the recent Indian made aircraft carrier INS Vikrant looks sleek campared to INS Vikramaditya...
Any reasons?
Perhaps because the former Soviet aircraft carriers combines the functionality of a cruiser and an aircraft carrier.
As for this ship - it displacement is 17,500 tons. It should yave a big control tower. Zumvalt also has a big one.
But fregates project 2235 - have low silhouette.

And another destroer project with less displacement

that,s my motto.....................:enjoy:

they do have the capability, but only problem is money............:coffee:

They don't.
Which Russian shipyard could build a 100.000 tonnes aircraft carrier ?
As far as i know, the aircraft carriers of the Kuznetsov class were even built in Ukraine.
C'mon, they have big difficulties with building some 4-6.000T (Just look the Ivan Gren.... being built since 2004..) ships and they want to build a 100.000T "super" aircraft carrier ? Let me laugh.
Anyway, they'll never have the funds/capabilities to. So..

the two are competely different things. Its like saying China can send people into space and build fighter jets by itself, but why hasnt it been able to build a successful operational large commercial plane/jets as of yet??lol

I think many of you are confusing Russia with the Soviet union/U.S.S.R . They are not the same countries. Why do you think Russia will seek french help/tech transfer and be ready to fork out almost 2 billion dollars of its hard earn cash to buy/purchase mistral and key techs from France? Do you think they did it for charity or just for fun?lool If they can build one themeslef without any need of foreign help, then why did they seek french help in the first place???

INS VIKRANT control tower is sleek campared to INS Vikramaditya...
Is it something to worry about?
Or is there a technical reason to have bulky control towers?

Gorshkov was not pure carrier.

It was hybrid carrier. It is a KIeve Class carrier and these carriers are not pure carriers.

The Kiev class is a combination of a cruiser and a carrier. In the Soviet Navy this class of ships was specifically designated as a heavy aviation cruiser rather than just an aircraft carrier.Although the ships were designed with an island superstructure to starboard, with a 2/3 length angled flight deck, the foredeck was taken up with the heavy missile armament. The intended mission of the Kiev class was support for strategic missile submarines, other surface ships and naval aviation; it was capable of engaging in anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and surface warfare.

You do know that Vikramaditya is a CONVERSION from an aircraft carrying missile cruiser ?

Russia Can Build Mistral-Like Nuclear Ship Equipped With Air Defense System
KUBINKA (Moscow Region), (Sputnik) – The Russian Krylov State Research Center has developed a helicopter carrier project to replace the Mistral-class warships that were not delivered by France, a high-ranking official in the Russian military industrial complex said Friday.
“The Russian Krylov State Research Center has developed an alternative to the Mistral project of a helicopter carrier, called the Lavina, with a water displacement of 24,000 tons, which is even larger than the French-made ship [of 21,000 tons],” the official said at the Army-2015 military expo outside Moscow.

According to the official, the new warship is a semi-trimaran with capabilities to sail 5,000 miles at 18 knots without service calls and a maximum speed of 22 knots. The vessel will carry 320 crewmembers and can take on an additional 500 troops or 50 armored vehicles.

Russian Navy to Receive Advanced Aircraft Carrier by 2026-2027
Under the $1.5 billion warship contract, signed in 2011, France agreed to sell two Mistral-class helicopter carriers to Russia but the handover was suspended as Paris expressed disapproval of Moscow's alleged interference in the Ukrainian crisis. Russia has repeatedly denied its involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.
In late May, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Military Industrial Complex Oleg Bochkaryov said that Russia planned to build its own Mistral-class helicopter carriers.

On Thursday, the director of the department of military technical cooperation, Alexei Diky, said France had handed over to Russia some technology in large-block assembly for the construction of Mistral-class helicopter carriers.

Lol
Lavina means avalanche and rightly so, this ship will have a maximum speed of 22 knots compared to 19 knots for the Mistrals.
Btw the name Levina is inspired by Lenin's name, so you're not so wrong... but am a Dravidan and not a Russian.
